Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Two sides well be set up to not lose rather than to win. Still see Chelsea nicking a one goal win.

Mourinho did not set them up to not lose against City (or Liverpool), to be fair. I don't expect them to be anywhere near as cautious as at Old Trafford or Emirates.

Moyes said Jones and Fellaini have been back training this week so Phil could be an option. This line up is a bit negative but would be hard to beat:

---------------DDG
Rafael-----Vidic---Evans------Evra
--------------Jones
----------Carrick--Fletcher
Valencia--------------------Januzaj
--------------Welbeck

If you're going to play that game then there is no way you'd have Jones as the one sitting back. I'd go with Fletcher sweeping in front of the defence, Carrick operating ahead of him and Jones putting himself about all over the midfield.

With that sort of basis in midfield, you could afford to play Januzaj and Kagawa with Welbeck up front.

That's a fecking good side if you ask me.

Valencia is nailed on to start though.

I don't dislike Kagawa just feel he's the least suited to this game

Seeing as Fellaini and Jones are fit now it provides a bit of a dilemma. I want Kagawa to start but I'm pretty sure he'll get bullied in this match. Depending on Jones' and Fellaini's match fitness I might start one of them instead.

He's had his best league game of the season which coincided with our best performance. Would be madness if he doesn't start

When? Against Chelsea?

That was my worry, I'd rather see Carrick_Fletcher_Jones to be honest...

I agree with Jayb, even though I can see Kagawa starting - I don't think is the type of game for him. We need pace for the counter attack for this one.

I'll love to be wrong.

I would be happy with that. I don't remember being disappointed with Jones in a big game. Especially away from home.

The only problem with this, is I'll struggle to see how we're going to create chances.

I think we can be physically superior to Chelsea if we can play our more physical players in midfield and steal a goal from a corner kick or a cross and then defend the result. My lineup for this match would be a 4-4-1-1.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Jones Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Januzaj
Fellaini or Kagawa
Welbeck

1-2 United. Absolutely no idea why.

I have no idea how Moyes will tackle this one but if he does play those 3 in midfield then I assume Jones would be asked to disrupt the likes of Hazard and Oscar. Basically perform the job he did on Real last season. Fletcher would be needed further forward going by what we saw last week. He pretty much drove us forward in that second half with some good forward passing & link up play with Kagawa and Januzaj. Not sure Jones offers that going forward.

Perhaps then:

------Back 4-------
------Carrick
Jones------Fletcher

With Carrick sitting and cutting off any space between the midfield and back four, keeping things ticking over when we do have then ball. Jones running around like a mad man chopping down Hazard and co. Fletcher linking the midfield and attack.

Kagawa if playing would be in the same space as Mikel and Ramires. Both strong lads but I think Kagawa could get around them with a bit of guile more than anyone else we have could with power.

A draw doesn't do us any good. Liverpool have Villa at home and that should be a comfortable win.

Need to go for the win

Obviously there are a lot of negative aspects ahead of this tie (Rooney & van Persie unavailable, José's home record and our recent slump) but I hope Moyes will just stick to the team he put out against Swansea. I have a feeling though he could field another midfielder and sacrifice either Kagawa or Januzaj for Jones or even Fellaini to pack the midfield.

Would take a draw - however, have a slight feeling we'll nick it.

Well obviously we want the win, but being realistic a draw would be considered a very good result. We have a decent run of games coming up again and should gain on them if we were to fall 7 points. I think getting something from the game would be only really important for morale.

Just play the exact team that was out for the second half vs Swansea. And give them some more of that secret Space Jam water.

I've been very pessimistic all season, heck I've even written of this season in terms of winning anything or even getting 4th - still watch and agonize like anyone else.

BUT - for whatever reason I am very confident we are going to win this game.

P.S. Sorry to those that believe in jinxes.

Please, can we use Kagawa and Januzaj (if needed no Valencia too), in order to have some flair and passing like the second half of the last game? We are so much better when not just feeding Valencia wide and waiting for his crosses with no target man. When we actually have movement between the attackers, and the ball stays in the grass. Is that too much to ask?

i've been optimistic going in to all games this season

i do worry about this one - Chelsea are in great form, the referee more often than not stiffs us in these fixtures especially with Mourinho's influence and we have key players missing

think I'd play it tight

----------------DDG----------------
Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - Evra
-------------Carrick----------------
---------Jones -----Fletcher------
Valencia-------------------Januzaj
-------------Welbeck----------------

I've seen Chelsea this season and they have that mental toughness and seem to eek wins out at times - Mourinho will be cagey - I'm torn about Shinji - Welbeck could be isolated without him and I'd be tempted to keep the team that played so well against Swansea last week

could see 0-0 until late on then a sneaky Chelsea goal

Odds have now gone into 1.76 on Betfair for a Chelsea win , Im going to lay us a fair chunk, since I think thats ridiculous considering we were 1.7 to beat Hull away. Im not sure of a win at all, I still feel it will be a draw.

No Rooney, No VP, Only Januzaj regularly playing well on the wing....

I can only see a win for us

like this formation. Good team, strong enough to keep em at bay.

Beat these c*nts and we're only 6 behind them... which is nothing in this league. Come on lads !

I'd take a draw right now. Before it was confirmed that Rooney wasn't playing I thought we could sneak a win.

Rooney not ready for Chelsea trip and Fellaini to provide boost... ô God!

I just hope it's a joke.

During these weeks where there are no midweek distractions for the clubs involved i think Sky should consider Friday nights for their top category fixtures, 9pm kick off perhaps.

Or it could just be that i am impatient. lol
