Chelsea transfer activity

Torres? What makes people think he's suddenly going to score 20 goals next season? For the last 2 seasons he has been shit, and he looks to have lost some of his pace which was his main asset. I wonder how long it will be before Torres is left on the bench, with Hulk playing through the middle.

Hulk as well? What the feck.

I dont even think they're done.

Wouldnt surprise me at all to see them go for one of Cavani, higuain or Falcao. And that'd be scary.

It was always on the cards though with the ageing squad they had.

What a fecking difference 1 kick of the ball can make. Robben puts the pen in the net and we wouldnt be seeing this shit.

Do you lot rate Hulk? I woudn't want him here from what I've seen, not all that at all.

Ridiculous money for him too. Chelsea could do much better for that money.

I too have my doubts about Hulk though he is one of the few strikers thought to be available this summer who can just as easily go wide as he can go central which to me is his big selling point.

From what i've seen of him, limited as it is, i wouldnt pay him 145k a week nor the 30-35mil that Porto would want. Not even close.

Why would you play Hulk on the left? Can he play there?

I think playing Sturridge there, and bringing Hulk on as a substitute for Torres would work better, no?

I wouldn't

I'd have Mata on the left, Hazard through the centre with Hulk on the right.

The only time I've seen him was against us and he spent the entire game blasting 40 yard shots ridiculously wide.

Plus a lot of falling over, his balance is like a mattress on a bottle of wine.

This. I've never been impressed the few times I've seen him. His name also does not help things.

So most of us agree that the "scary front 4" Chelsea look to be assembling actually includes a player non of us rate that highly and a player that's been off-form for 2.5 years?

There will still be a lot of question marks about that Chelsea team for me, I'll wait until 10-15 games into next season before I start being "scared".

It's exciting for Chelsea and their fans though, that's for sure.

I think Chelsea are trying to do something special but buying the wrong ingredients.

Hazard will undoubtedly take time to settle but will be quality player for them but Hulk is a very greedy player indeed and not the sort of guy you want for getting quality service to Torres. Not only that but by all accounts Hazard is quite lazy defensively and so is Hulk, it's not Mata's strongest quality either.

Those three players behind Torres may give you a lot of flair and unpredictability in attack but the lack of defensive cover they offer will give an awful lot of work to the central midfield pairing behind them and leave the fullbacks exposed. It will be interesting to see how they balance it.

He played against us 3 years ago. He is 25 now.
Probably improved a bit since..

Certainly a good footballer.. Dont think he is worth 40m... but if Chelsea can afford it, the price doesnt matter.

Replace Torres with a Cavani/Falcao and it'l be a great front 4. And fwiw, with Drogba leaving, its highly unlikely they wont sign a top striker.

Apart from the recent friendly against Denmark, those few times I've seen Hulk play, he looked decidedly average.

If we do sign him, I hope he's really as good as his hype suggests.

Fair point. But it looks like Torres has received guarantees.

Yeah i read that too but it'd be highly unlike Abrahamovic to not make a signing to replace Drogba and given how poor Torres has been the past few seasons, the incoming player should do better than him hence replacing him as the 1st choice striker just like Drogba did.

I think Hulk is likely to be signed as the other option up front though.

This is the one player i want to see the chavs sign. He's not very good for all that he's going to be worth for a start

Perhaps but i dont think so. They'l move ramires to the middle and put Hulk on the right i feel. Thats where he plays for Porto, doesnt he?

He's played on the side of a front 3 and in the middle up top.

He may start on the right, but he'll be an option up front too instead of Torres, no question.

Oh yeah, he can definitely play up top, all am saying is that he plays more often on the right. Also given his style which is based a lot on cutting in , he'd seem more suited to playing on the right i feel.

Think he'll do very well for them.

Yeah so do I.

Quite under rated in this thread, just because he's not worth 40m doesn't make him a bad player. His biggest fault as far as I've seen is being too greedy, physically he is perfect for the league.

People saying Hulk is average should probably consider that many will have said that Valencia was average at best in the Wigan team and we know how that turned out.

When surrounded by better players, there is a good chance he will be expotentially better for Chelsea.

I'd be concerned by the possibility of a front four of Mata, Hazard, Hulk and Torres.

Arruda, the resident Porto fan, thinks that Hulk is R. Falcao's level, albeit a very different type of player.

The best point made on the matter.

When you have three very creative players in a team on top of the striker the simple arithmetic is that defences will struggle to deal with them short of surrendering three quarters of the pitch and defending the penalty area. Not that many teams don't do that on visiting the likes of Chelsea or Man United anyway but in recent years when our one outlet has been Mata, Drogba or before them both Zola it hasn't been difficult to isolate them out of the game but you cannot do that to three or more players.

Porto are brilliant at doing business. They even got 13m for their manager.

Hulk, Hazard, maybe Modric. Sigh. And they said FFP was going to end it all.

Chelsea can spend around 100m this summer and still be within the FFP limits, plus players wages before 2010 don't get taken into account. With the extra revenue streams from winning CL they are quite ok, sadly. Their problem comes in a couple of years when they have people like Hazard, Hulk, Terry etc on massive wages and the new signings want parity or the current players want a rise. They have to keep winning year in year out to sustain those kind of salaries within FFP as they don't have the same kind of income from commercial projects as we do. They are a smaller club.

I've heard it on the grapevine that Chelsea have made an enquiry for James Rodriguez, possibly since they're already negotiating with Porto about Hulk. However, I'm not going to claim that my sources are anything but another forum I post on, so it could well be (and probably is) bollocks.

They seem to be buying young and flashy this summer, though, so it might be true.

? - Ramires
Hulk - Hazard - Mata
Torres

Wow. Really wouldn't be surprised if they went and hijacked a deal for someone like M'vila. Even Fellaini in beside Ramires would be an amazing midfield/attack.
