And the £40M loss of revenue (ie one good CM's fee).

One season's loss of revenue isn't a huge amount considering the ongoing increased money coming in from sponsors. The problem still remains you're not going to attract a top level player above the age of 26 as he wants his peak to be in the Champions League.

Cesc hasn't been out of the CL for a decade. Big push to leave it.
I understand what you're saying, I'm not saying us not being in the CL wouldn't be an issue for some but I don't think it would be the deciding factor for him. The chances are it will only be for a season anyway.

He won't be leaving the CL next season for sure. I'm sure he would also like to be at club that has a good chance of winning it, if not then he'll take Arsenal who are his 2nd club after all.

Isn't signing for Arsenal akin to admitting you don't ever want to win the CL anyway?

It's probably 70-30 you won't make it back this season. Maybe 60-40.

Obviously signing Cesc would make it more likely. I just suspect that he wouldn't want to take the risk.

I actually think next season we might have a real tilt at the CL.
I'm assuming you're factoring in some good summer business there? But fail to factor in good summer business for us as you put us 70/30 not to get into Europe?

It is a big loss no doubt about it. But it represents about 10% of total revenue for United, so it probably won't hit us as hard as most other clubs, in the short term at least
Even without CL next season our revenue will be higher next season than this one.

Obviously long term it would have a serious impact but despite all the fears over the debt the club is still financially very healthy.

We need to spend to climb back towards the top and it may take another year but FFP is a massive plus for us as long term our revenue is miles ahead of most other clubs.

Why do people take getting back into the top four so lightly? The top spots in the league are very competitive at the moment.

I don't think you can factor in anything that might happen in the summer as nothing is locked in. Currently nothing to suggest we may have a better summer than last.

Our squad, with a few additions, should be more than good enough to claim a top 4 spot without too much difficulty, and to suggest that we're more likely than not to fail getting there is utterly retarded.

I'm sure you would have said the same last year in fairness

It's funny how the Arsenal fans speak up after winning their first trophy in 9 years. I almost forgot how arrogant their fans are.

Yes, going from winning the mighty FA Cup to winning the CL is easy.

No, it really, really isn't.

You finished 7th last year. You've signed no-one yet and top quality players are hard to get when out of the CL.

Same goes for Arsenal though. The comment I replied to stated Arsenal have a real chance at the CL and I fail to see that happening without significant improvement to their team.

Despite United not being in the champions league an incoming player will know with Louis' history there is the very real chance of competing for and then winning the league. Due to the central midfield problems United have had yet the formidable attack ahead, the central midfielder also knows he really could excel in the coming seasons.

I think Cesc is at an age where not being in the champions league is a huge deal however a younger player perhaps 25 or under probably won't mind one season out of it.

If I were a central midfielder though I would be very tempted by United, first and foremost the money but also the chance to supply the likes of Mata, Rooney, RVP, Januzaj and Kagawa allows a player to really shine.

No I can't see Arsenal having a "tilt at the CL" at all, not at their current state. They'll get knocked out by the first classy side they come across. They'll burn out for the league like they usually do as well.

Still we are in a much worse position in terms of attractiveness to players.
