There's a much bigger chance of getting him this summer. He's been in poor form since January and it's clear to see that he doesn't suit Barcelona's system. He's not patient enough in position.

If we're serious about signing him this summer, we need to put in a big offer and not mess about. Otherwise we would be wasting our time again...

I'm rolling my eyes. He told us to get stuffed. It was just his agent leading United on.

How much would we all be willing to spend on Cesc? He will be 27 in the summer.

Isn't there a Fabregas thread already? Anyway, would be the best thing that could ever happen to us. The man has given assists in the last World Cup final and in the last Euro final. And he's only to become 27 years old. Game relies zero on pace, so has a lot of years in him if he stays fit. When he's on form he is the best midfielder in the world for me (with the likes of Modric, Pirlo etc.). Can play advanced and as a deep-lying playmaker. Would be brilliant.

Woodward isn't that much of a moron that he'll fall for the same trick twice. United need to stop fecking around with silly low bids and put in a big money offer to tempt Barca.

If Arsenal want him then surely it'll just piss off one of Ramsey/Wilshere/Ozil. They don't need him and to go for him in the manner they went for Ozil when other areas clearly need strengthening would just be stupid.

Even if Barca wants to sell (which is likely for the right price consider the issues Fabregas is causing) fabregas himself won't come because of his arsenal history. (He doesn't have a little boy inside of him :()

Let the muppetry begin

To be honest, he's not worth £40m and that money would be better spent on Kroos, imo. He's worth about £30m, £35m max and anything more than that and I wouldn't mind if we don't buy him. He's been in no sort of form for a good two-three years now.

I really think we have a good shot at him this season. We won't go after him twice if he didn't make clear he wants to come here.

It's a waste of time. I doubt Fergie would have given many players a second chance after turning us down, it's like we've no pride or dignity left.

How have we still not managed to identify another midfielder, that isn't Fabregas, to sign?

Fergie chased after Laurent Blanc feck knows how many times and even went back for Shearer after being rejected once.

There is two off the top of my head, I am sure there are more.

How did he turn us down? Barca didn't want to sell him because they lost Thiago and he was hardly going to kick up a fuss. If Barca accepted our bid then he would have joined.

So we lose out on a top player over £5m? Kroos isn't leaving and Bayern have made clear they won't sell, even if he wants leave.

Can we have a separate thread discussing how many pages we expect this thread to end up at? I say 349.

£10m but as I've said I'd overpay by £5m to get him, thus max £35m. He's been pretty shite for Barca. Just because he tore shit up for Arsenal does not guarantee he'll return to that form for United should we get him. I'd rather we spent £50m on Vidal instead of £40m on Fabregas which is precisely what Barca will do if we take Fabregas off them.

It seems more likely now that Moyes has gone. With Moyes in charge we just seemed so dull and unattractive. He really was bad for our street cred.

I remember Fabregas releasing a statement saying he wasn't interested? Plus seeing various other quotes about how he wouldn't leave Barca or betray Arsenal, or something like that. Can't remember the exact details.

Vidal is not leaving and if he does then every team will be after him, it be very hard to bring here. Fabregas doesn't fit well at Barca, that doesn't make him a bad player, it just means he would thrive in a different system. I'm sure he will be one of the best midfielders in the league if we sign him.

Apparently Barca are only willing to listen to an offer if it includes Fellaini going the opposite direction...

What players say at press conferences are hardly the truth. He's not going to say 'yep, I thought about leaving Barca for United'. United didn't put in blind bids last summer. They were encouraged by Fabregas' camp. Maybe Fabregas wanted to use the United interest to force Barca into giving him more minutes, but the fact that United are going in for him again strongly suggests that he is open to a move.

He would only leave if they wanted to sell. He also said a few months ago that he's flattered to be linked with us, but his dream was to play for Barca.

Fabregas is better than Kroos. He'd be an absolute monster back in the Premier League.

Umm. Not to be a pessimistic cnut, but can't we see the elephant in the room?

Arsenal have a buy back clause. They are in champions league. Why would he choose us over them? (I'm certain if he was willing to leave arse would go for him)

I don't think we could possibly make a better midfield signing. Vidal maybe, but fabregas has been there and done it in the PL to boot. 15+ goals from midfield...

Would Arsenal waste their budget on a player they don't need?

£45m would do it I think. Barcelona would make a profit on the sale to Arsenal, and they get a bit more money to go summer shopping.

My opinion, but Arsenal have Wilshere, Ramsey, Flamini and Arteta, as well as Oxlade-Chamberlain if Wenger wants him to play there. We have an ageing Carrick, Cleverley and Fellaini. Fabregas would instantly be the best CM in our squad. Wenger would also probably want to spend their budget on a ST and a RB.

He's been the natural heir to Scholes ever since he was tearing apart the Premier League as a teenager for Arsenal. Probably only a small chance of it happening, but I wouldn't mind another Summer of Cesc.

The 27-30m bids last summer were silly, but when you consider his form since moving to Barca, and especially this season, is he worth a whole lot more? I don't think so.

Something about Woodward is i think he might be a bit naive, SAF often used to say agents of top players would often call him or Gill about how their client wanted to come to us. But i think they could tell when a player was angling for a better deal at their current club.

Moyes and Woodward probably received similar calls and tried to act on it. i cant see Fabregas coming to us when Asnl have a buy back clause and can offer UCL football :(
