Chelsea 2023/24 season thread.

Lewis Hall wanted to go Newcastle and again Poch was hardly using him in pre season.

Newcastle wanted him all of last summer. Chelsea rejected a couple of their advances. Hall knew of their interest but yet still signed a 7 year deal and accepted a loan deal to Palace. It's obvious to me Chelsea changed their minds and decided they needed to cash in on him, probably because moves for Chalobah (linked with Bayern and Inter) failed to materialise. Keep in mind the owners also accepted a £30m bid from Burnley for Maatsen but Maatsen refused to leave.

They accepted Maatsen bid because of his contract situation and him stalling on a new deal.
Now its obvious Poch doesn't rate him he will be sold. I dont think its got to do with him being home grown.

Just the last six finals at Wembley lost.

All we need is a Belle Silva tweet calling for the manager's head and then we'll have Chelsea bingo.

No Drogba or Lampard like experienced player to score in finals...

No goals in the last 3, can't expect to win.

This statistic really is a major FAIL.

Getting to 6 finals is commendable. Not sure any other club has been to that many domestic finals in this period. So clearly we’re doing something right as a club to keep to getting to finals. Keep in mind we’ve also gone to the EL and CL finals during this period and won them both. To lose 6 consecutive domestic finals is devastating though. It’s embarrassing. It’s demoralising. To lose 3 straight to fecking Liverpool is, I legit couldn’t think of many worse scenarios.

Have at it Spurs fans. Now's your chance for some payback. :p;)

I’ve had to mute all my group chats. Spurs and Arsenal fans are having a massive party and I hate every second of it :(

They need to do something about those steps man. Way too close to the fans. I think I saw Klopp’s jacket and hat almost get snatched off him. Why did they stop having the podium on the pitch?

Isn't that part of the Wembley experience and tradition? It used to be 39 steps you had to climb.

How much more money, new managers and players does it take for this project to get going?

The figures spent since Clearlake came in are obscene and things still look no further along than they did when they arrived.

I thought they did a lot of work on the structure behind the scenes so I’m wondering what’s going wrong. I know both Tuchel and Potter have suggested there were plenty of issues in the background, and even Poch said he wasn’t sure who the club had signed or was interested in to the press.

It seems very messy for a project that’s two years in come May.

The tradition of climbing the Wembley steps unfortunately never accounted for modern day bellends desperate to go viral.

There's falling off a cliff, and then there's Chelsea post-Abramovich

From winning the UCL to losing the Carabao Cup to Liverpool's U18s

Yeah I much prefer the old style of lifting the trophy up in the gods as opposed to on the pitch, the most iconic trophy lifts in history were in the stands

As always, the minority of gimps spoil it..

That's not just a Chelsea thing in fairness although you're not wrong.
Nah it's pretty common for long-term injured players that a lot of hopes rely on - see Timber for Arse, Martinez for us, etc. But I find it slightly stranger for Nkunku in that he doesn't quite have the body of work to support these high hopes, at least yet.

He was player of the year and then top scorer in Germany in two consecutive seasons. That's something!

Don't take away my hope.

Is it, though?

I mean he'll likely turn out to be a decent to good player for you, but some of the posts in here - not so much recently, you've all given up by now it seems, but like up til 2 months ago - gave the impression he was a sort of R9 regen that would have transformed your season. This was particularly true in a period I think around September to November when the overarching feeling in here was that you were playing well and creating, but not scoring.

Yes it is something. He's sandwiched in as winner between Bellingham, Haaland and Lewandowski. I'm not saying he's as good as those, just that it's a reasonable indication that's he's a very good player.
All overrated players. Tell me, what else have they gone on to do in their careers? It's ok, I'll stop, you're entitled to your hope

I wonder is de Zerbi the right man for Chelsea, in that he is able to exchange youth players seemlessly in and out of his team and not lose his vision or style for how football should be played.

It’s not really a club that is stagnant with big egos or average players on big salaries like United. It’s more a project without leaders or direction.

Maybe de Zerbi could give these young players some sense how what’s expected of them and some identity to their football.

Losing 6 domestic finals in a row must be frustrating but I'd be happy with us doing the same while winning Champions League in-between.

I swear, if we knock on Brighton’s door one more time

I can see him getting football out of these young players. They don’t seem phased no matter who is in and out of the team. I honestly think he might have the qualities needed for a very particular situation.

The head coach is not the issue at Chelsea, at all.

It’s the only part you have control over though. You need to work with the situation at hand, and he appears to have the potential qualities of deal with the squad and the current situation.

Poch is a good coach, but the situation is a unique one and he maybe isn’t the man to deal with it.
