Chelsea 2023/24 season thread.

Poch getting away it, ETH getting destroyed by media. It's so typical and the agenda is so transparent. They won't be putting sympathy articles out for ETH being attacked. Chelsea on to relegation form and spent a billion, not a fecking peep.

No CL this season, hopefully no CL next season, surely they are going to reach a point where FFP really comes and bites them, no matter what fardangled calculations they come up with.

Chelsea and Poch are just a bit boring for the media, no one really cares, yet write any old crap about United and it will get them 10x the clicks than Chelsea ever would every single time.

Not sure why you are surprised, has ever been thus.
Partey and Antony
Should have been a pen for us vs spurs , arsenal get the exact same decision in their favour
Extremely dodgy “offside” plus evans being fouled for an arsenal goal - no comment

Plus a load of other situations I can’t be arsed to type out, these are just the ones from this season so far.
It’s always been the same

Poch will be sacked within one or two more months at most. It was the wrong appointment from the start.

Having said that, Bohely have ruined the squad with his random insane spending on any available player without any sort of plan or strategy or if the team even needed them and I don't think any manager can make this clusterfeck of squad work.

It's a proof money can't just buy you success like people were claiming about Roman's Chelsea or current Man City. You need to actually know how to spend your money and on which players.

This club is massive! You best believe it

You know the team listed second is Manchester united and the team listed first is burnley? Bare minimum, we should be outplaying burnley and have better xg even with 10 men.

The audacity to say ‘we’.

Yes. So what the feck does that have to do with a post about big teams creating chances at home?
United are a big team. Burnley is 20th. Doesn't matter if we are away. The stats showed that chelsea created more chances, while we couldn't create as much chance against a weaker team despite the win.

The audacity to say ‘we’.

Huh? I m a united fan. Isn't that common? Most likely been supporting united more than most on this forum as well

They could be deliberately getting themselves relegated so ffp can't apply to them. Master level fandangling

Yeah, nothing screams "I support United more than most people on here" more than following a manager that's never been close to United around the world.

You'd think they were 3rd or something with the lack of media criticism. If United were in this position there would be Governmental inquests in to how shit we are.

Football media is pretty stupid. Interesting journalists are few and far between. Sky having a lot of United pundits on doesn't help because they want to troll them like theyre AFTV.

Even if it doesn't, they've committed themselves to weird long term contracts. I can't see how this all works out.

You can buy success. Boehly has just been uniquely bad at it. City and Chelsea bought the people to manage the spending for them. Boehly seems to be doing it randomly.

Sky sports have a leading story about arsenals injury crisis

unreal
I guess that is what happens when you understand football.

I haven't seen any intelligent poster on here talk about chelsea being in crisis because most of them know that such a project especially of that scale will take time. The underlying stats shows massive improvement over last few season and sky and other respected media has time and time again highlighted those stats. On top of that the amount of injuries they have as well. I m guessing if their stats were poor like us and they had no injuries, then those media will be talking more negatively about it.

It is mostly the fans without much footballing knowledge are the one that seems confused.

your post comes across like a right bellend

Interesting situation it's unique that a club has spent such a drastic amount in a short period of time. Impossible for most managers to get things to click, you have to figure out the best 11 against teams in the league that all offer some threat. I think Chelsea should target top 10 and slow down purchasing in the upcoming window to give the players time to gel.

I also don't buy the excuse that a team can't finish chances because the strikers aren't good enough also a narrative with United. It's up to the manager tactically to create overloads so the midfield or wingers can get tap ins and clear cut chances. Teams not finishing chances often time is due to a lack of coaching in the final third, not a personnel issue.

finishing is natural, difficult to coach.

In one on ones true, but where the overloads happen it's almost hard not to finish. City who are the best coached team in the league exemplify this. A primary reason a player who's not renown at finishing Sterling got double digit figures consistently with tap ins. A team can be better coached to score more goals not the individuals that's the difference. Brighton also another example I think the reputation they had under Potter was dominate possession but not enough goals scored Di Zerbi has changed that.

I think it’s far more likely that Chelsea have signed players who aren’t as good as people would have you believe.

It's like they're playing football manager and wanted to build a list of players they wanted scouted but accidentally signed them all at once

probably more to do with the fact that London clubs like arsenal & Chelsea are media darlings who get excused more

I feel bad for Chelsea and Boehly, and especially Caicedo. Such class in the way they operate so it’s really a shame to see them struggling like this. They deserve better than being booed of their own pitch at home.

Maybe some of the media realised that after outplaying Liverpool on the opening day, the team has had 12 players and 5 starters missing through injury...

Chelsea don’t get the attention we get in the media because they’re not as big a story, it doesn’t generate the sells or clicks. There’s also the fact the British press have been charmed somehow by Poch and talked him up for years, so now how things are going make quite a lot of them look like mugs.

There was definitely a Chelsea fan on here preseason that thought top 4 was basically a slam dunk. Where have they run off to? They'll do well to join us in the Europa League next season at this rate!

Europe, you must be joking. Worst start in 40 years.

We're in the relegation dogfight. Only Nkunku back and January attacker signings will guarantee we stay up.

There were loads of people on here who thought Chelsea would finish top 4, not just Chelsea fans.

That run in October/November is horrendous. Arsenal (h), Brentford (h), Spurs (a), City (h), Newcastle (a), Brighton (h), United (a).

They currently have 1 win and 3 defeats from 6 games. Even if they win their next two (far from certain, two away games vs Burnley and Fulham), they could finish that run of games with something like 4 wins and 7 defeats to their name. That would put them around 15th place.

They basically need to win 3 or so of those games above just to keep their heads above water. Brentford would be a target, but who else? Hard to see right now. They really need something to click.

I'd say the fact that the 'stats' are in Chelsea's favour yet they still only have one win in the league is even more alarming.
Usually good teams find a way of winning yet Chelsea can't even do that.

What's up with Lavia? I have a few pre-written posts about how he's made a horrible career decision and his career is over at 19, but I need him to touch the pitch for a game or two first before firing them off.

Unacceptable.

The media are only interested in Chelsea when Mourinho's involved.

hard to see Poch lasting the season and where do they go from there?

they need an experienced big name to come in and sort this out... but it's such a poisoned chalice at this point who will take the job?

Ted Lasso, it's the only logical next step for Chelsea.

While this post warms my heart, it's utterly ridiculous. Chelsea are not getting relegated. You'll be midtable at worst.

Would love to see it though

You are lucky that all three of the promoted teams are absolutely terrible because your form over the last 12 months is relegation form.

It's crazy that you've spent over a billion pounds and yet your starting line up consists of a load of inexperienced players and a 40 year old Thiago Silva!

If he actually cared about playing football, he's an idiot for joining Chelsea. Why would you join them when they signed Caicedo days before you? He should have gone to Liverpool. He would have started for them.
