I’m going to the Chelsea game tonight. I just hope this thunderstorm goes away. I predict many pints will be consumed with people in blue and a few in red.
Enjoy mate. Always nice to see our US fans on this forum getting to see a game every 2 seasons or so.

Think our only real chance at another top class CB this summer is Skriniar. But PSG are after him.

So we’ll probably panic now and overpay dramatically for someone average.

No just we need to stick with what we got. Defense need reinforcement. Try to play back four with Silva and chalobah with jorgi as DM. It's a recipe for disaster.

Arsenal look fitter and stronger. They are absolutely overrunning us all over the pitch. Yet they scored two from stupid mistakes and both suicidal passes to catch us off guard. Arsenal are ready for season I think. Chelsea need lot of work.

Edited:Second half 3-4-3 we looked better and comfortable.

Preseason is to try different tactics and bed in new players. Sterling is an extremely good addition for your false 9 attack.

Will be interesting to see how Chelsea will address attacking issues.

Chelsea transfer dealing looks woefully short.. Sterling is an absolute waste of money for them in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Sterling is an upgrade on most Chelsea players, but they have too many similar players playing his position. Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner all similar players, nifty footwork beat the man to the wings. Even Mount and Havertz can play a similar role. Not sure what Sterling adds to this list. A slight improvement? may be.

Before the start of the season, Chelsea had a serious goal-scoring problem. What did they do? Sell Lukaku and Buy Sterling? Sterling is one of the worst players to rely for goals. They could have done well with getting Jesus instead. A better goal scorer although a Martial-ish one. Sold Rudi and got Koulibaly, no big difference in my opinion and continue to rely on an ageing Silva. An injury to Kovacic will literally doom the midfield. Kante is overrated and Jorginho is as average a player as it comes. Connor Gallagher is the only bright addition and Broja might come in handy. But Chelsea look short-shrifted front to back. There is only so much magic Tuchel can do. Good for us though, another top 4 battle for Chelsea beckons with the likes of even Spurs/Arsenal squad looking stronger than them.

Yeah we had Arsenal fans here arguing that Chelsea's attack is fine. It's mental. They literally have no recognised striker. Although part of me thinks Arsenal fans might be taking the piss.

Chelsea are screwed if Havertz is their main striker. If he gets injured then it's down to Werner who is nowhere near good enough.

Has to be this.

I imagine Ronaldo might jump up their priority list but I would be furious if we sold him to them unless they paid us a stupid amount

He will fit the bill. Their system allows their strikers to focus on scoring goals while their midfield and wingbacks do the heavy-pulling. So its an absolute NO-NO to sell Ronaldo to them or we can say an early good-bye to top 4.

agree with your assessment of their attack, less so the midfield though

We should be thanking our stars if Chelsea are stupid enough to just Take Ronaldo off our hands let alone pay United a fee .

They are a direct top 4 rival, it would be mental to give them exactly what they need

They need a goal scorer and he would be that

What is Tuchels record like in his 2nd to 3rd season? How did his fourth go with a top club?

He mentioned players are looking to leave so didn’t put in a shift, were these fringe players or first team players?

Wasn't some Chelsea supporter here talking about how everyone loves Tuchel and they all sing kumbaya every session and the team spirit couldn't be better because he's, like, their best friend.

Wouldn't be too concerned, let Barcelona have Kouande.

Seems Tuchel tried 4 3 3 in this game, not sure Mount can play as a midfielder in this system. Jorginho lack of pace a problem too.

This is what pre seasons for.

People talk about them lacking a striker but let's be honest, Lukaku's 8 goals in the league isn't a massive contribution. They played much better as a team with Havertz there so I don't see why that would be any different this season.

Then they have added Sterling who should add more goals than his counterpart last season.

If Broja stays as well, that gives them a good option. If he leaves then they will need at least 1 more for depth.

Last night is what it is, a pre season friendly. They didn't seem to match our intensity which I see as the main reason for the win, but I'm sure when the season starts they will be up to speed.

Lukaku or not, they lack attackers who are goal threat. Sterling is good one they have, rest all are not a regular goal threat.

People tried to read too much in a friendly game. Tuchel tried a 433 in first half, switched back to 343 in 2nd half and played much better. Last season Havertz played as false 9. They tried to bring in Raphinha this summer as well. Their system relies on goals from wide attacker.

I was just about to ask how they've been getting on in preseason, then i saw the Arsenal result :wenger:

If I was a Chelsea fan I'd be worried based on the tone of those comments.

If Arsenal lose the next friendly game, people will say arsenal is going to get relegate next season.

The issue isn't the result, it's what Tuchel said about the team afterwards.

That there was a worrying lack of competetiveness, a lack of commitment, that the lack of commitment was partly due to several players wanting to leave, the problems he saw last season are still there, that they had an urgent need for a "huge amount" of quality reinforcements but only have two so far, that he's concerned about goalscoring, that they shouldn't even be mentioning City/Liverpool when a team like Arsenal look so far ahead of them, that they switched to four at the back because they didn't have the requisite number of CBs to keep playing with three, etc.

That's not what you want your manager saying two weeks before the season starts. And it makes it quite different to the normal, consequence-less pre-season loss you could shrug off.

If they play Ronaldo regularly They aren't making top 4 and neither would United if he stays and is played regularly .
Why’s that? He’ll bang in goals for any side. He’s the reason we qualified from our CL group last season.

At the moment Chelsea are focusing on improving there defence, already got koulibaly and nearly kounde… they’ll be solid at the back but they need a goalscorer, if they get it then they’ll easily get top 4. Also did he play 4-2-3-1 against arsenal rather then his preferred 3 at the back?
