Chelsea 2020/21 - General discussion

Lmfao you lot feckin need us with city/scousers still here if an English side is to win

Oh, I'd always take a Chelsea win over those two. Most importantly, I don't want Liverpool collecting more CLs.

Sacking Lampard looks an inspired decision. Sentiment shouldn’t play a part in the decisions for the best interest of the club. Something to think about..

If it's a Chelsea v Liverpool semi, I want this place renamed to "Bluecafe" for the games.

That's reaching. If that's the Semi final, I'll update Tuchel's photo in the sack thread to something where he doesn't look like Niles Crane mixed with a 30s horror movie villain. It will be hard to find one, but I'll do my best.

FA Cup draws are a myth too...

Last season we played Arsenal, Man Utd, Leicester and Liverpool in the same cup
One hard campaign but come on for years you barely faced anyone of note until the semi/final.

It’s fine though, cup draws are part and parcel of the game.

Also recent quarter finals before this year.

Reaching ? You want to even entertain the thought of 7 times la
I expect the borders of this site to be blue minimum

I am still shocked about the draw. Porto has two of their best players out for the first game. Then we have the best possible semi final draw. Stunned.

Not too sure about the 'best possible' semi final draw. Surely that would've been Dortmund v Real/Dippers. Dortmund are the second weakest club left.

Eh, I prefer that Real and Liverpool kick lumps out of each other and have a higher intensity battle than Dortmund might offer. I feel as though Dortmund could easily lose a first leg 4-0 and make the second all but academic.

That we get the second legs of the quarters and potential semis at home is just the cherry on top.

Nah this is fine.
If we beat Porto (which we should)
We either face a poor scouse side or a poor Madrid side.

The three favourites (bayern City psg) are on the other side of the draw. It's by no means guaranteed nor will it be easy but it's a great chance of reaching the final for us.

You lot are just as bad, if Chelsea win the UCL then the same culling that happened with the Liverpool supporters needs to happen

How ?
We hate you.
You hate us.

But we both hate the scouse a lot more. (And you hate city to boot.).

Sometimes you need to bite the bullet and accept what you need so you never hear the words
"City's quadruple" or God forbid "7 times la"

What exactly does 7 times la stand for?

We've gotten along here quite happily for years without any hate involved. Save it for the scousers.

I agree, I don't find the Chelsea posters bad or in fact Chelsea fans in general that bad. They have a bit of a Chav aura and can become slightly cocky (although that can be said of most fans) when winning but in general they are fine and level headed.

Dippers are the only ones that really need banning.

On paper, perhaps. But then, it turned out to be piss easy. Liverpool probably already entered their alarming malaise when they played Atletico last summer. I know they stormed La Liga to begin with, but they've been on a downward spiral and I was frankly surprised to see how shite their midfield performed on Wednesday.

Not sure about fair either - I'd take your luck with draws in a heartbeat.

I mean when the draw was made we all thought we got the toughest draw available. It's a bit harsh to somehow belittle the achievement of comfortably beating the team that sits top of La Liga when the common prediction when the draw was made, from Chelsea fans and non-Chelsea fans was clear.

It turned out to be 'piss easy' in part because they're going through a period of terrible form but also because Chelsea are that good imo. I noticed very similar things [opponents are truly terrible, Chelsea aren't actually that good] were being said after we Spurs and Liverpool.

Obviously we still have a lot of room to improve further but opposition fans calling us lucky or bad are actually threatened by us. Fact is, our draws would have mostly been wins with a killer front man. We dominate most teams at the moment while missing a piece of individual brilliance or clinical touch. Imagine lewandowski in our side for example. This is what people are scared of, one player could potentially take us to challenging city, who are head and shoulda above the 19 other teams.

Article is behind a paywall. I never trust headlines, but he probably was sent to the showers. You really don't want your players happy with a loss like that.

Trouble in paradise?

Good rule of thumb is to never trust anything Matt Law has to say about Rudiger - he's got a weird vendetta it seems, including reporting that Rudiger was "bullying" the younger players.

The actual incident was that Rudiger tackled Kepa, Kepa got mad, Rudiger talked shit back to him, and then Rudiger apologised 5 minutes later. Complete nothing incident but Matt Law has to blow it out of proportion as per usual.

Probably happens every week in any training ground across the country but the only issue is this got reported/leaked.

I read the article about the aftermath of the Albion defeat in The Athletic, and the forensic analysis makes it clear there’s a major leak in the camp. Chelsea is a hugely mercenary club. I am not saying they have lacked success.

What makes them a mercenary club, exactly? Would it be better if players just showed up next day for training after being embarrassed by a second worst side in the league and were just all smiles like nothing happened? Because that's exactly what I'd expect a mercenary to do. If people react angrily, that means they care about more than just their pay cheque.

This whole mercenary argument got old long time ago.

You are a mercenary club to be fair. Look at the way you discarded your most successful ever manager twice, and the way you discarded your two biggest legends in Terry & Lampard.

Im not even having a go, it’s just true. Roman wants success & money. That’s it.

If Roman wants money from Chelsea, he's going about it in the wrong way!

Well he wants success, ie titles & CLs, which obviously bring in more money & more massive sponsorship opportunities. I’d rather have Roman than the Glazers, despite how ruthless he can be. Sometimes big clubs have to be ruthless.

Having a ruthless owner who's quick to hire, quick to fire, doesn't make the whole club mercenary, it's just means that's how he thinks the club should be run. Whether it's the right or the wrong way of doing things is a matter of opinion. Chelsea have been one of the most successful clubs in the country since the takeover, so in that sense this approach worked. Players like Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Cech etc spent their best years at the club, won everything there's to play for while at CFC and are rightfully considered amongst the club legends. Sacking Lampard doesn't change anything in that respect or tarnish his accomplishments as a player.

At the end of the day, for a player/manager it's a job they're doing no matter where they ply their trade. They may love the club or feel indifferent towards it, maybe they've been dreaming about playing for it since they were little or ended up there simply because the money was too good to turn down. At this level, it's all about how good you are at your job and it's the same for every club.
