Let me put it s different way; worst case scenario. If city won it would be their first, no one cares they’re a plastic club who will fade when pep quits again. They have no history
If Liverpool win it will be number 6, making them 3rd in the table for most euro wins behind Madrid and Milan

I really don’t get people getting hung up on city, they’re a plastic club, fake

This should have been the last word in this discussion a month ago. Liverpool must NEVER win - City, I don’t give a cat poo about.

Okay mate, now its much more clear. My logic was/is: I'd rather see Pool knock City out of CL as later on Pool are more likely to be knocked out anyways. So none of our domestic rivals win CL this year. It is not like I want Pool win the whole thing. If City knocked Pool out, they'd have more chances of winning the cup, and we end up having noisy neighbours rubbing it in in the heart of the City of Manchester. So, all in all, I doubt Pool will win it. Now I hope that they meet Bayern in the final, as the Germans and their manager know exactly what to do against Klopp. It is a shame to be a in a position when we worry more about possible victory of our arch rivals instead of looking forward to playing in the latter stages in the most prestigious football club tournament.

Here’s the thing, the closer they get and let’s face it they are now in the final, the closer they get to having won it 6 times. Call yourself a united fan ffs.

If the scousers win there is a great cull coming
I’m with you. How could you root for your greatest rival to progress and then hopefully lose. Even after 2005. Maybe some of these united supporters are too young to remember?
Anyway if we do win please do not take down the match thread like last time.

Cannot believe this needs to be spelt out so clearly to United fans. Liverpool are a decent cup team and after they trashed city 4-3 in the league, i knew that on their day they can smash anyone.

City will for me at least always be second to Liverpool. I guess only Jose would have been more pissed if Pep would have won the CL but i would have been happier that Liverpool did not get through and then sad about City winning it.

Here’s a funny question - would you rather they don’t win the CL and we don’t win the FA Cup, or we win the Cup and they also win the CL?

Do we have any psychologists or sociologists here? This is like one of their classic tests to demonstrate how petty much of humanity is, how their is no true altruism blah blah blah. Goes something like this:

Two competing individuals are asked to choose an option that decides a reward -
a) he gets 100% of the prize
b) gift 100% of the prize to the other
c) split the prize 50%

If both individuals choose (a) then no one gets the money. If one person chooses (a) and the other selects either (b or c) then option (a) gets all the money. And studies show that on average more people play this game so that the other person does not win and devalue both people winning (ie split)

It’s why there are so many miserable antagonistic fans here, whomever they support.

How does explaining the rules of the game show 'Deal or No Deal' help us come to terms with Liverpool winning the CL?

So Liverpool are basically in the final and there are STILL people who think them knocking out City was a good thing?  Whoever they meet in the final will be favorites against them but it will be 60:40 or 65:35 at best. That is still a very good chance of the worst possible thing happening.

These people are making Forrest Gump look like Stephen Hawking.

The seasons after SAF retired really did me in. If as a club we were on top, I’d consider spending more energy caring about Liverpool’s prospective success or failure in a tournament we haven’t been good enough to even be a part of most of the last several seasons.

And frankly, the worst possible thing has already happened. After laying the gauntlet down, knocking em off their perch (domestically) we went and hired Moyes. And after that worst case, we went and shopped this club around as a Disneyland.

That’s the worst feckin thing. And so it’s hard for me to partake in schadenfreude when my own home is not exactly in well looked after.

It’s fine if you need to channel the anger and hatred towards Liverpool but you can’t fault another United supporter for not feeling the same, and certainly not question their love for United.

It was a no win situation in the quarter final, so I don’t see how you can criticise someone wanting Liverpool to win. It was either Liverpool maybe winning it 6 times, or city possibly winning everything and the press and work mates ramming it down our throats.

I just hope and pray they get beat in the final Hopefully they same way we beat Bayern in 99. Now that would be sweet.

Hmmm, let me think!

Could you imagine if they won 3 trophies this season we would never hear the end of it. There’s a lot more city fans where I live. I don’t know many Liverpool fans.

Since you live in Manchester, I can see that point. However, Liverpool winning it would impact a lot more globally rather than 30 000 in Stockport! I dont’t anyone want United to be three behind Liverpool again, that would hurt. City winning it once not so much.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. Unfortunately I make them favourites to win the whole thing now. Why did Barcelona have to get knocked out.

If you lose don't disappear for 6 months like you do after every big Liverpool defeat or Utd victory.

The people who wanted Liverpool to win didn’t for a second think Liverpool would be capable of raising their game to this level. They are looking better with every game in the CL and Salah is just unstoppable, saving his peak form for right now which is just horrific for us.

You can't argue with logic like that,.

City were out of the FA Cup at that point.

Most people thought City would win that tie, and if Liverpool did win it’d be close. Don’t pretend like everyone saw this dominant form coming.

Equally so though, I don't think it was being accepted what a very dangerous team they are.

Which is what has caused the ''oh someone will beat them'' perspective to start to look a little bit flawed, innit?

Off topic to the current discussion somewhat but apparently gerrard is in talks to take over at rangers.

I think it was also presumed that Barca would be the SF opponents. Instead, they capitulated and set up a tie w Roma that, let's be honest , Liverpool were always going to win.

Bayern are garbage and there to lose another final. So the only hope is to see Ronaldo suck the joy out of the scouse one more time. Maybe even lift up his shirt to reveal a 'this one's for you, Manchester' under shirt.

Be careful of what you wish for. The monster will raise his head and gather the momentum and unstoppable.

Please be calm guys/gals, nothing is won yet. Another 90 minutes minimum to decide who will get through. Anything is still possible.

Then we decide to get panic or relax.

The 'logical' thinking tells me fans 'preferred' Liverpool to beat City is because City are a force to be reckoned with as shown by their PL titles. Them getting closer to the Champions League just certifies their distance and superiority, which is a bigger problem to Utd than Liverpool winning because they simply don't have the finances or foundations to be a big domestic club compared the Manchester/London clubs.

That's just a superficial view of course.

Feck them both obviously but I get it from that thinking.

I do too, tbf.

Liverpool will never reign supreme again but City might be hard to shift from that position, so best that they never get there kinda thing.

Coupled with the fact that the older more distanced folks (to generalize) tend to loathe Liverpool more for those 'historical' reasons, whereas City never used to be any kind of threat really, unless you want to name single years way back in the deepest mists of time & witter on about Colin Bell.

I think Madrid will be best equipped to beat them. Unless we get a Roman miracle!

In a Real - Liverpool final, I would prefer if Liverpool won.

There, I said it.

please don't ban me.

I don’t know why some of you are worrying so much about the idea of Liverpool winning a trophy. There are five threads dedicated to them on this page and three more for their players. They’ve already mindfecked this fanbase for life.

I'm guessing there will be sick feckers on here cheering every Scouse goal tomorrow?

I'm a MU supporter but in Europe, I revert to following the remaining UK teams left in the competition. I see nothing wrong in that, I'd rather support a national team against the might of Germany, Italy and Spain. When MU went missing in the Euro cup, going back some 45 years and after, I got a lot of pleasure from watching Arsenal and Liverpool progressing further. I must say, one of the best games I ever watched was Liverpool against AC Milan in 2005 coming back from 3 nil down at half time to then win on penalties.
I'm very sad to say that I would even, just about, watch Man City if they were the only team left in Europe, but if Emmerdale was on I probably wouldn't bother.

This is a bit much, though.

You sir are not a United fan. You're a fan of english football.
