Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

Feck I'm late on the fat jokes.

Charlie Adam is so fat he comes from both sides of the family tree.

Question of standards and ambitions.

Seems that way. The only puzzling thing is why Pool supporters are ecstatic about signing a 200 pound average player, who brings nothing to their game to what they have (Aquilani and Meireiles). It's actually a step back.

Indeed. They're spending some serious money on these Premiership players without a certain guarantee, they will reach Europe, again.

Their owners already stated that there won't be tolerance for unreasonable transfer strategy anymore, while RAWK is happy like never before...

Charlie Adam is so fat he makes Claire from Steps look like H from Steps.

Hang on, what?

When you bear in mind his set-piece and tactical obligation to get the ball in behind the full-backs as early as possible, they're not completely terrible. Still a concern though for a big club, especially given his propensity to lose the ball in deeper areas which he increasingly demonstrated as the season wore on. Certainly nowhere near as reliable in keeping possession in the heart of midfield as the likes of Scholes, Ferguson or Murphy.

Murphy? Danny Murphy?

He gives the ball away for toffee.

Let's face it - these are piss poor signings that Liverpool are making. A few years ago they had Alonso, Mascherano and a peak-Gerrard. Now they have Adam, Lucas and a past-it-Gerrard.

Well his 80% pass completion rate is some distance better than Adam, despite having a relatively similar creative role.

True. They also had a coach who had won La Liga twice and the champions league. Now they have a man who's stuck in the 90's and only has a plan A when it comes to football.

Liverpool and Kenny will get found out next season.

Acquiring Charlie Adam will bankrupt Liverpool F.C. Their sole creditor will be the caterers

I thought the same but according to a source on RAWK, once the canteen is empty, they won't stock it up again.

Edit. fecking white text.

I think a lot of folks miss one aspect of his game...he's a dirty like focker...will give them a bit of an edge in midfield i think....i bet he works out for the dippers

That would be a first.

Does anyone think this signing will make Liverpool even more "hollywood"? I mean Gerrard and Adams are kings of the long "hollywood" passes even when it's not necessary. I hope they go back to their long ball style of play, especially when you consider they now have Carroll as well (back then, it was "aim to crouch").

He needs to lose a few pounds

I don't think Adam is as Hollywood as some on here think.

That said, Gerrard coming back into the team will disrupt them, i"ve no doubt about that. And yeah I think there will be a tendancy to look for big Carroll all the time....mind you, some premiership defences will struggle to cope with that...e.g. Arsenal

Think its decent deal for Liverpool at that price - £7 million gets you next to nowt these days.

Sure they'll get him a lot fitter and think he'll do a good job.

Why would you assume that? He's always had that style since he was a kid... dont see it changing anytime soon personally....

Plus his fitness seemed to be even worse, the last time he played at a club big enough that he wasn't guaranteed to start every game (i.e. Rovers)

Easy to stay fit(ish) when you're playing 90 minutes of competitive football every weekend. Takes a lot more discipline for squad players to keep their fitness up.

7 mill is a very good deal. didn't realise they got him for that much. thats a good bit of business.

So what wouldn't be a "very good deal"?

If he cost, say 10 million, would Liverpool be better off not signing him?

Or would 12 million be the point at which he goes from a very good signing to a shite signing?

Does my head in this obsession with transfer fees. When did people stop judging new signings on their merits as a footballer, rather than their re-sale value?

I would love to know how many scotish rejects have made it big in england?

Wow. Sorry. Didn't realise you had such a hang up on the price elasticity of transfer fees.

I think Adam is a good player. And I think at 7 mill its a good bit of business relative so some of the other big fees being bandied about this summer.

Sorry for 'doing your head in' with very simple post.

Well you have to judge their quality in relation to their price, obviously. If Liverpool had sold Anfield to finance the move for Adam, it probably couldn't be regarded as highly as getting him for £7m. Surely this is obvious?

Careful now alastair. You'll do Pogue's head in by talking about price. He obviously gets dizzy when he sees numbers...

Yes. This is obvious. Well done for stating it.

Of course, they haven't sold Anfield to sign him. Nor will they. Nor have they spent 50 million on him. Or 500 grand.

My point (which I thought was equally as obvious as yours) is the fact people seem to be so precise in their cut off points between what does and does not make a player a good signing.

Charlie Adams for 7 million = a very good deal. Charlie Adams for 10 million = (presumably) not a very good deal. It smacks of an FM mentality and means feck all when it comes to judging whether any player really is a good signing or not.

I couldn't give a toss whether Hernandez cost 5 or 15 million. He's been a great signing for us.

Conversely, I don't think Charlie Adams is a good signing for Liverpool, whether he cost 7 or 17 million.
