Champions League Semi Finals (24th April - 2nd May)

Bayern probably , Roma I do not think. Liverpool was superior overall, they conceded chances when the slowed down in both legs. If Roma had scored I think they would have upped the tempo and scored more, quite easily. They were the better teams despite the decisions. But while Bayern dominated both legs and was just too little cynical , Roma was dominated for three quarters of the tie and could have been beaten more widely.

You are probably right with your assessment re the Roma / Liverpool tie; however, you never know if the first pen situation against Dzeko would have been given, we don’t know how this might have changed the match’s dynamics. In any case, it shows how crucial the VAR can be in a two-tie game compared to a league VAR. Something we might see during the WC soon

What am I saying which isn't factual?

They do count but different competition. The CL now is much more difficult to win as we all know.

What, more difficult than being champions of the top division and winning the European Cup in the same season?

Koulibaly+1 experienced non-crock. Depending on Varane and Vallejo, maybe also either another fit body at CB or a backup RB for your namesake

In midfield i'd like Pogba for Kroos, think his skillset meshes better with Modric than the german's. Otherwise, a great athlete. Someone quick, fast, and with great stamina, and of course with the skill to play for us. Wouldn't mind Thiago at all. Vidal if he were a few years younger. Wet dream is Saul, it's never happening though :(. Honestly if Kovacic could ever put everything together we'd be set. Ceballos needs a proper chance, as does Llorente, especially because Casemiro didn't have a good season and is often a liability against teams like bayern
I like the idea of Koulibaly, but will probably be very expensive(we have to save for Neymar :D ), although maybe Napoli want another "Callejón", so could be cheaper. For the right I think Odriozola is very feasible and I have no idea about Theo.
For me Thiago would be a great option but not Pogba.
Unfortunately I do not have much faith in Llorente

koulibaly is a good player, but not worth 50+ they are looking for.

Out of interest what made you think it back then ?
everything else was pissing me off in my life! I just had a feeling of dread and I thought to myself, the only thing worse that can happen is Liverpool....

How is the Champions League more difficult to win now?

If the old EC formats were easier to win, why has Manchester United won only two?

We don't all share your opinion, much less 'all know' what you'd like to be true.

Koulibaly would cost €80m in fee, and i guess in the region of €10-12m in wages(gross). Odriozola is very interesting but is another very young player who needs to grow quite a bit before being good enough for us. About Pogba, i guess i have the advantage of having seen him in a midfield with Pirlo and Vidal. His skillset is perfect for us, think Di Maria 13/14. His attitide and willingness to work his ass off in all aspects of the game don't worry me, we have guys like Cris, Ramos and Modric in the dressing room, and by all accounts he's a model professional with a great attitude in training, very hard-working. I think we offer the best possible situation for him to fully explode and reach the next level. Plus he grew up idolizing Zidane :D

Thiago would be a close second for me

Saul is the one that got away:((and when you think about how he got away...:mad::mad:)

yes, a pity, but it seems that he had a very bad experience in Valdebebas, where aparently he was bullied . 80 m€ is too much, I prefer a surprise, a 25 years old Pepe. My first choice would be Giménez

Ronaldo is on a different stratosphere than anything George Best has done. Let's be honest.

Let's not even start about the level of dedication to the game each of these players have. George Best was more concerned about boozing while Ronaldo is more concerned about winning all the trophies and breaking every single record.
Talent wise.

Listening on Talk Sport earlier. They had a prem ref on going through the decisions and said.
Push on Mane = Penalty
Karius on Dzeko = Penalty + no red card as he made genuine attempt to get the ball
TAA on El Shaarawy = No penalty not enough contact
TAA handball = Penalty + no red card as the ball was actually going to go over (using a ball track that the ref would not have).
Klavan handball = No penalty

Exactly

Gimenez...i'm not so sure about him. I rather like Umtiti  eh i dunno. If we can afford it we should go for Koulibaly. Ultimately the biggest problem with Varane are the injuries. We need someone reliable and possibly better than Nacho at the very least. And then decide what to do with Vallejo. Another season like this would be a waste for everyone. Either he is trusted as 3/4 choice and is given minutes, or send him out on loan

You know what, we should go for Azpilicueta. Excellent FB, can play on either flank, defensively very good, good going forward, can slot in at CB in an emergency and do a job. Ramos, Varane, Carvajal, Marcelo, Nacho, Azpilicueta, Vallejo, Theo, does sound a lot deeper than what we have, with 3 guys who can play multiple positions but enough space for the kids to have a chance. The question is whether they deserve it. (Well Theo does because of his price alone anyways).

It’s just a nice counter to an earlier poster who was calling all European Cups the CL.
Either way, according to everyone on the planet, it will be 6 if we win no matter what. Except to only the most bitter of fans.

It would be 2 CL's, but don't tell me the Pool fans are not bitter that they never ever won the Premier League whilst we won 13 (thirteen!) ?!

The PL Trophy has never ever graced the Anfield turf and is an object to be viewed on photos for them - so sorry for them but it must really hurt deep down. Maybe next year?

Never heard of the Munich Air Disaster it seems.

Childish. You have 20 leagues. We have 18
You have 3 cups. We have 5. Hows that

Wow. This is as handball as it gets. And a red card for TAA too which would make things very very difficult for the scousers. Not to mention the other unfair decisions against Roma. Maybe that's why they say ''you will never walk alone!'' ?

Quite right, the penalty not given to Mane for a blatant push early on in the game, the penalties they were given that never were penalties, however lets focus on the couple of moments that Liverpool did get lucky in. It balanced itself out over the game, for one decision that wasnt given and should have, another was given that shouldnt have been given.

Yes Liverpool were lucky in those decisions but you cannot say they had it all their way.

Technically it did when Blackburn won in 95.

Okay daddy, but you know what's childish?

The message at Anfield telling us to 'Come back when we won 18 Leagues' - well SAF came along and won 13 PL's to 0 from Liverpool.

What injuries do Liv has for the final other than AOC?
Can is possibly injured, or just can’t be arsed to play before the World Cup/his move to Juventus. Lallana should be fit for it but I think Matip will miss out.

Thanks. It doesn't really make any difference for your lineup tho.

Hope to see a well oiled Madrid vs Liv, otherwise they'll get $hitfaced.

is something happening in Kiev? Oh, wait you've booked an early summer holiday - I understand it's beautiful at this time of year

Update on Can from Klopp’s pre Chelsea presser is that he might be able to start training on Monday.

I do not think so Koulibali has a break clause of 65M euros and he earns 4.5 M gross, with 65M (or less) and 7-8M you get him, not sure he is worth it though. He looks very good with Sarri and he is phisically dominant but he has concentration limits and technically he is not great, not sure he would play a lot with Real. In any case the only irreplaceable player is Ronaldo for Real, without him it would be a very strong team but would not be on the same level of several others, hopefully he will end soon :D

Was about to post this in the madrid thread

Either we change the coach, or the team. They clearly don't work together anymore.

We should change the team anyways though. Not sure some of those guys have any hunger left in them. Time for some major surgery. Need to rethink the whole thing since we're not getting better (version of) players than Kroos or Modric or Benzema

I hope we don't fire Zidane. He is perfect for us: humble, stays behind the scenes, does not make controversial comments, always focuses on the positives, keeps tactics simple, supports players when they are down.

With Koulibaly it is the complete opposite. He is fantastic technically but, he is not great in the air or very strong.

maybe we are talking of a different player, I was making reference to the one current cb of Napoli, the guy marking Zaza below :D

They do count but different competition. The CL now is much more difficult to win as we all know.

I don’t think it is, for instance, it’s now a mini league, so you can lose games and still win it, whereas previously only League Winners could be in it, and it was a knockout competition all the way through. The top teams in Europe played it before, and they play it now. I see no evidence to say it’s more difficult now.

Because the 2nd-4th placed sides in the big leagues are miles better than the champions of minnow leagues.

Better teams in the competition -> harder to win
