Champions League Round of 16 fixtures

That's highly twatish from Commons. I hope that he has a nightmare in the 2nd leg now.

That's fecking ridiculous. If he has issues, solve them in the locker room, not in the newspapers.

That's such a harmful behaviour for team harmony that I don't think any club such accept it.

I'm all for giving more freedom for players to speak as they wish, but perhaps situations like this are the explanation for most clubs (at least here in Portugal it's what I feel) apparently imposing players strict limits on what they can/should say. At least all football players seem to say the same standardized crap, which is probably taught to them by some communications dude at the club. I don't like it, as it makes players look extremely boring and unoriginal outside the pitch, but I can understand where it stems from.

It's one of the basics when it comes to management: players will always be confident about making a positive contribution, irrespective of their physical condition. Even more so amid the wave of post African Nations euphoria followed up with the biggest tie of the club season. The best managers have the nous to rely on their own expertise rather than the flawed testimony of their players.

I agree with this.

It's part of being a professional and competitive sportsman. The same logic applies for many players that make apparently unwise career moves to bigger clubs where it's obvious they won't get the playing time they want and will be asking to leave 6 or 12 months down the line. Almost every one of them thinks they're capable of succeeding.

To rely on a player less than 48 hours after his previous game, without gauging his condition in training, can lead to that. If he gauged it and he was ok, than perhaps he was just bad and physical/mental condition wasn't the cause for his failures. Anyway, Commons is wrong - as would be anyone that publicly criticizes a team-mate after a defeat. They are all responsible, it's a team sport.

My favourite bit was Clive getting so upset he resorted to insulted the Juventus players at the end. "I BET PIRLO DOESN'T BOTHER WITH SHOWERS, THE TRAMPY LOOKING SHITBAG."

I'm paraphrasing a tad there, but you could almost hear Townsend sidling away to distance himself.

 I don't think that's what he meant. He was going for a he doesn't need to because everything he does looks effortless type thing. It certainly fell flat, anyway.

Oh, like a "he hasn't broken a sweat" sort of thing.

Clive was so grumpy during the game that I took it as a "he has long hair and a beard, so he's clearly a dirty twat."

Don't think UEFA should stick their nose in that, it's an internal issue of the club.

I don't think he did anything against "the rules", he only harmed his own club with that speech, so it should be the club to decide how/if they will punish him.

I certainly don't want even more moral paragonism from UEFA. They have enough issues of their own responsibility to worry with.

Any non United fans interested in the Donetsk Dortmund tie?

No. I'd watch it if there wasn't the other game.

But that being the case, I'm not even zapping to see the goals in Ukraine. It's just Bernabeu today.

Dortmund will probably get through, but fair play to Shaktar. They haven't played competitive football for the past two months and were leading twice against the pretty boys of European football.

with what it's shaping up...juve and psg are looking to go through. dortmund has the advantage, we have a very slight one.....if porto, bayern, barca, and gala (with drogba) go through...the qf's are going to be one of the strongest we've ever seen...bloody hell.

I'll be tremendously disappointed if Porto doesn't go through. I think we have been playing some wonderful football lately and a lot of players seem to be at the season peak in form. Would like a chance to display it and test ourselves against stronger opposition.

We do need to be careful with injuries and suspensions, as our second options are very lacklustre. Our first XI is one of the most balanced and harmonic I've seen lately (putting Villas-Boas extraordinary season aside) and apart from a more consistent winger in place of Varela I'm thoroughly happy with it.

Probably some personal feud between Ambrose and Commons. You would think that idiot is Zlatan Ibrahimovic the way he harshly criticized his teammate.
Ambrose is asked whether he can play this match, that right there is one major feck up from the Celtic coaches. The player should never have been asked anything and he shouldn't have been played. After all who's gonna refuse playing vs Juventus in the CL :wenger::wenger: ?
Amateurish management by Celtic and incredible arrogance from Commons (who himself was bad in the match)

I have a feeling that Arsenal are going to win. Everybody seems to be writing them off.

20 quid on Arsenal to win. After Arsene's hilarious lashing out at the press conference yesterday, he will get his players fired up and win this

Mr Kommons is a bit silly... just seen them comments from other night... I actually saw the game and he was their best player.. for once! Anyway moving on, looking forward to Arsenal tonight, should be a good game, I think AW will play for a 1-0 win and look to counter attack Shalke... it'll either be 1-0 Arsenal or they will loose IMO

If Arsenal's defence holds up then they have a good chance, but they keep making mistakes.

Arsenal's pacy attacking game can get at Bayern.
