Champions League Round of 16 (13th Feb - 14th Mar)

With the much maligned Fellaini on the game was even. Introduce 'our best player'. Concede 2. Hmmmm.
Genuinely thought Pogba looked uninterested when he came on. It’s weird but you missed McTominay.

Lukaku, Rashford and Bailly were all really good.

They got walked all over at home. I can’t believe none of the big European clubs have had a look at signing N’Zonzi.

N’Zonzi is very good at what he does and goes unnoticed by a lot, the fact that he once played for Stoke seems to make some people think he’s average.

Are Spanish teams currently better over the past few years? ABSOLUTELY. Does that mean La liga is the best League in the world? Hell no
The Premier League still is and will remain to be the most difficult and competitive league in the world. Spanish teams are better currently but the LEAGUE is not as competitive as the EPL don't twist things.

Have you looked at the respective league tables? Same points difference between 1st and 4th in La Liga as 1st and 2nd in the PL.

I didn't think he was worth the money and I wasn't in favour of resigning him. Nothing I've seen in almost two seasons has changed my mind. Oh well.

Think his lack of any kind of pace is what keeps the big clubs away from him.

Only Lukaku and Bailly looked up for it. If only other members showed some intensity.. pathetic really

Cool. Have you seen that their has been a different winner in each of the past 5 EPL seasons? or the fact that fecking Leicester won it? Believe me I understand and agree that Spanish teams have been better then the English in recent years BUT La liga is just not as competitive as the EPL no league is and that is just fact. People confuse what being the best league in the world is.

I did say all along the longer the game went on at 0 - 0 the more of a chance Sevilla would have. Going back home after a 0 - 0 in the first leg is playing with fire.

If only there was some way to prove it.

From 1st to 8th, La Liga has been consistently better for the last 10 years and it's not only about the champions league.

Villareal, Real Sociedad, Athletic, Sevilla, Malaga, Celta, Sevilla vs Tottenham, Everton, West Ham, Swansea, Aston Villa, Boro, Fulham, Southampton, Stoke. Pretty unbalanced IMO.

BS, epl’s competitiveness is overrated. Man city are running away with the league with their eyes closed, the EPL is full of massively inconsistent teams. La Liga has just as much shuffling between the 2-5 spots as the EPL. I’d also take the bottom ten in La Liga over the bottom ten teams in the EPL.

It’s hilarious how underrated La Liga is in these forums.

You haven't beaten Sevilla yet and failed to get the crucial away goal. Let the tears shed in Wembley tonight not be for nothing. ;)

Seriously, though, Sevilla are wily old foxes in Europe as much as Juventus. Sevilla have actually won European trophies recently so know what it takes to scratch and fight. Plus, they're not bad skill wise.

Hey @Kraftwerker , how prophetic were the words of advice from last week? Since you like to point out my predictions more than anyone else. Almost every word oozes with knowing. :) I know, even a broken clock, blah.

@Cal? You mentioned away goals are overstated. Tonight both teams were adversely affected. Utd coming away goalless was always going keep Sevilla relaxed knowing one goal meant two which would eventually be enough. And it was. And then some.

Quite like Ben Yedder but could see him being Aspas mk II in the Prem

The championship is more competitive than the Premier League, doesn't make it better so there's more to it than that.

9x out of 10 everyone knows who the top 2 are in La Liga bar Atletico a few years ago the champion of La Liga is either Barca or RM that is FACT. As I said 5 different champions in the past 5 years the competitiveness in the EPL has always been superior to that of other leagues. I am Portuguese so I know enough about La liga who are similar to Portugal in that their are only 2(3) Dominant teams in the league. The rest of La liga fights for the remaining places.

United looked scared, frozen, left reliant on hoping to nick a goal and then park the bus ... and this at home, against one of the weaker teams left in the competition.

So in the end they got what they deserved for playing so negatively - and in such a limp manner - and giving Seville so much time and space on the ball.

Sevilla play some lovely stuff along the ground. Almost never lump it up the field. Seems a Spanish trait.

The championship is not better and that example is not valid because the quality of players is much lower to that of the EPL. Im sure there is some 3rd tier league that is very competitive but that does not count because the quality of players is significantly weaker.

Again BS, only four different winners and one of them was a Leicester team that had an amazing season but an absolute fluke considering how poor they werenhebyear before and came crashing back down to earth the year after. La Liga has had 3 different winners the last five years with the title often being decided in the final two weeks of the season whereas the EPL statistically has the title being decided much earlier on average.

And Atletico that won La Liga in 2014 also have been to the ucl final 2 of the last 4 years.

Top to bottom La Liga is better than epl

Mourinho couldn't get away today with his tactics. He will get some stick surely. And deservedly.

Again I don't care what they do in CL I am talking about the league and again did u read what I wrote? the last 3 winners of La liga have been the same as ALWAYS Barcelona and Real Madrid. It don't matter if Leicester win was a fluke(it was) the point is they won it you will never see that happen in La Liga.

Again I am not talking about individual team quality which the Spanish are most certainly better as of recent. I am talking about league competitively.

And Leicester winning is something you will never see again in the EPL.

With the way things are playing it City have no competition for the next couple years. Liverpool are solid but still a player away from being consistent enough to challenge city. They certainly don’t have the depth that city do.

And epl has historically had the trophy flip between Chelsea and city in recent years. It’s not like you’ve had 6 different winners in 6 years.

Also the quality of the games are much better in La Liga. 90% of the marquee matches in the EPL have been very poor this year. La Liga is much more fundamentally sound and tactically played than the average epl match.

You're a really rubbish poster. Genuinely. If you'd had the bottle to post about your loss at the weekend like some of the other scousers here people could appreciate your opinions more but instead you're a trolling cretin who adds little to discussion and only turns up when things go your own way.

Laughable.

So you're saying the Premier League is better than La Liga because it's more competitive despite not having as good teams but the Championship isn't better than the Premier League since it's more competitive?

Or does it have to be a combination of quality and competitiveness?

Once again has nothing to do with the fact that the league is more competitive. Chelsea ran away with it last year and are 4th this year there is no guarantee City will run away with it next year that is an ASSUMPTION where as we all know who the top 2 in La liga will be next year. That is where im getting at predictability in the league. Every season is a new season in EPL because ANY of the top 6 can win it as unlikely as it may be for some of them they only need some good signings and some luck ala Leicester. Now Leicester will probably never win it again but does that mean another team cant? of course not. Is it rather unlikely? But of course but it CAN happen hence the beauty of the Epl. 99% of the time RM and Barca are top 2.

Like I said thats like saying the Danish league is more competitive then the EPL because they have had different winners in the past few years. The quality of players in the 2 respective leagues is 2 tiers apart. The EPL and La Liga have very similar player quality and are both Tier 1 leagues hence they can be compared. Championship of course is more competitive there is always a new winner because the top 3 are promoted.. and you can not compare it because they are not a league with even remotely the same player quality.

Because these two are truly world-class, which no English team has been for the last few years. That's the big difference between the leagues atm.
