Champions League Round of 16 (13th Feb - 14th Mar)

I would not be surprised if Spurs go through, Juventus basically gifted the draw to Spurs through poor finishing and goalkeeping mistakes. That draw could have given this Spurs team a huge confidence boost. These players don't have experience at the top level, so confidence is very important for them.

It would be more accurate to say that Spurs gifted Juve a 2 goal lead inside the opening 9 minutes, but thereafter mostly dominated the game, forced Juve into a shell and then cracked it open.

Spurs won't sit back tonight and play for a low-score draw. We'll take it to them and aim to win decisively.

You do realise they have already lost 5 games this season in the league?
And lost against Spurs in the Champions League.
None of that matter. Real does not care about La Liga, and if they met Tottenham in the knockout stages, Spurs would melt under pressure.

Real in the knockout stages of this competition is a different beast.

I don't believe that

PSG didn't test them, I personally thought Real were quite poor in the first leg and did very well to win 3-1 but their performances over both legs don't convince me they are back to that level yet

I still want to see more from them until I will consider them back to the level of winning the competition

Benzema's off-the-ball movement created space for Lucas Vazquez to making that cross for Cristiano's 1-0 goal vs. PSG

Just an another situation that Benzema's contribution gets completely overlooked....

Sorry, that’s correct and it was me not being very clear. I was talking about Benzema in general. I think he has been very useful for the team in many ways. Always working very hard, fantastic at keeping the ball and helping others to score. But he has not been very clinical and missed a lot of good opportunities over the season.

I saw he got poor ratings in some papers today. I personally think he was really good. His role wasn't being the primary goalscorer, but yet he is evaluated as one. Always poorly rated in media, but always trusted by ZZ.

Agreed.

Yeah, thanks. That's great. I myself was more impressed earlier with Asensio's vision, but I agree Benzema has a beautiful movement off the ball there. Something Martial or Rashford are not very good at, for instance.

Real does not care about la liga? none of that matters?

I want some of what you're on...

Should be a great game tonight.

I’m hoping all the PL teams qualify, frankly. I always support the league in Europe.

Like they melted under pressure in Turin at 2-0 down?

What a load of shit. I'm sure they're much better than their record in La Liga indicates... they just don't care enough.

I can't call tonight's game. I could see Spurs blitzing Juve but I can also see Juve being street-smart and getting the job done. Dybala being back is huge for them.

One thing is certain - Higuain will bottle it.

I think Tottenham will make a very fast start tonight.

Expecting Spurs to make easy work of Juventus tonight.

Kane/Alli/Eriksen will be too much for them, going for 3-1.

I dont understand people shitting on Spurs. They are on a budget and have built a great team. It should be applauded.

You are massively underestimating Juve. They have a good record in England as well.

I'll go with a 1-0 win for Juve and through on aggregate. Will be a typical Juve performance.

Anything can happen in Spurs-Juve game. Despite the advantage Spurs have, I can't predict a result today that'll be comfortable with.

This should be a great game! Looking forward to it. Juve will be forced to attack a lot. Can also see Spurs scoring, so Juve will need at least 2 or 3. Can't see them pulling off a 0-1.

I find it interesting most people think Roma are going to overturn Shaktar. I've watched Shakhtar against City and I think its going to be a tough ask for Roma to get the win. Personally, I can see a score draw with Roma going out. Certainly going to be tight.

Absolute drivel. Real most certainly do care about both La Liga and the Champions League group stages, where Spurs ran out deserved winners. Really poor in the 1st leg vs PSG, too.

I dont understand people shitting on Spurs. They are on a budget and have built a great team. It should be applauded.

Agreed. Have done it the old-fashioned way, with top-notch scouting and a very good coach who improves his players.

I know you're being sarcastic but it's actually true that they're much better than their record in the league indicates. Obviously they care about the league but it's impossible for so many players to play so poorly in one competition and so well in another without any justification for it.

For the first time, I think I want all the PL teams to make the next round (would have backed Spurs regardless) but think it would be so cool to have 5 of the 8 teams in the QFs.

The first goal will be everything in this game. Juventus must score the first goal because if Spurs get it they'll need to come back with two. A very difficult night ahead of them if they concede first.

4-1 Spurs and wait for the reactions on this forum

They're definitely better than their current league form indicates, but also not as good as their recent European success would suggest. They did have a bit of an unlucky streak prior to 2014 title, now it's the opposite. It is a cup competition in the end, regardless of all the mythologizing.

Spurs: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dembele, Dier, Eriksen, Alli, Kane, Son
Substitutes: Vorm, Rose, Lamela, Wanyama, Sissoko, Llorente, Lucas Moura

Juventus: Buffon, Barzagli, Benatia, Chiellini, Alex Sandro, Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi, Dybala, Higuain, Douglas Costa
Substitutes: Szczesny, Marchisio, Asamoah, Rugani, Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Bentancur

Interested to see how Poch approaches this game, does he still go all out and attack even though it's Juve that need to score or will he be more cautious and counter. IIRC City was in a similar situation last year vs Monaco and Pep deciding to attack cost them.

I think we'll go hard to score first, knowing that if we do then Juve will need to score twice and so would really have to come forward - at which point we could sit back a little more and try to hit them on the counter.

I just hope we don't get caught cold again, like we did in the first leg. We need to be switched on right from the kick-off.

If Son is on the left vs Barzagli that could be trouble for Juve but they usually manage to protect their defenders pretty well.

I'm expecting Juve to come out on fire looking for an early goal, Tottenham can't afford to be sleeping for the first 10 minutes of the game this time around. Gift Juve 1 or 2 goals like in the first leg and I doubt it will be as easy to make a comeback. Matuidi and especially Dybala being fit is a big plus for Juve, they're going to need some big performances to turn this around.

whos the Juve RWB?

Are Juve playing a back 3 or Back 4? From that I can only see Chellini playing left back?

2-2 in the first leg was massive for Spurs, I would fancy Juve if it had been 0-0, 1-1 or 2-1. Eriksen goal has given Spurs the advantage I reckon.
