Champions League Round of 16 (13th Feb - 14th Mar)

I'm off to the PSG thread to have a laugh and fend of that creeping, nauseating feeling that Real may inevitably win this shit show again.

And the PSG fans are still going... Are they even aware they've just been knocked out?

With all the smoke from those flares I expect half of them won't know the result until they get back and watch the highlights on the telly tonight.

They're far more interested in interrupting silences for recently deceased players, setting off flares and blowing shit up. Classless, shit club with shit fans.

What a weird game.. weird pacing all throughout, weird red card, but the PSG fans take the crown with all those flares on their keepers side.. bizarre.

Do think people being too harsh on PSG are doing a disservice to Madrid though. Dunno what's going on in La Liga since I don't watch them, but in the CL they look great, their starting 11 is strong and their usual subs that started today are almost as good. In these knockout stages I'd have them as favourites alongside Barca and City.

Well that was a good warm up. Now on to the game! Have a good feeling we'll win this one too!

Well that was not enough from us. Deserved for Real over the two legs.

Congrats @Vato @carvajal @giorno and the couple other madridista caftards I'm forgetting.

Think their league being so easy does not help them with mentality. It doesn't toughen them up.

Definitely one reason for it. Has to be. Also poor coaching. They never look like a team or a cohesive unit, but just a bunch of individuals. This is obviously fine in the league 'cause it's so easy, but when it comes to playing the top teams in Europe who not only have great individuals but are very well coached (for the most part) it's game over.

Unless every other club has a huge injection of cash and can build teams that provide some sort of challenge then they will continue to fail because the players will not naturally drop to that level.

All PSG have acheived in 6 years and over a billion euros spent is the french league title every year, which they could have done with a tenth of that.
This is a good lesson that money and buying new players can only get you so far, you need to have a clear plan from a tactical to a psychological POV. This match was shocking in terms of attitude by PSG, even if you're bowing out, show some fecking fight ffs.

Shocking. Seems like a player with no determination or discipline and it is echoed by a lot of these PSG players.
It all stems from how the players are pampered and taken care of like they're babies, everyone is absorbed by his own situation/happiness/struggle. Not many willing to sacrifice and put in that extra effort for the others.

If PSG want to win the CL, they're gonna have to get a better manager in. Emery did well to win 3 europa leagues with Sevilla, but the CL is a different prospect.

I literally forgot they had a game

Well I was watching it and I almost forgot too, it was that interesting. :)

Seriously though, so glad we’re through, confirmed. Yes, we’ve had a pretty kind run so far but it’s just such a nice feeling to go through. I know a lot of you think qualifying via top 4 is a little small time but for 5-6 seasons we literally fell off a cliff where the CL is concerned.

Although City have shown us all up this season I’m happy we’re progressing. Don’t @ me! :)

Good post. Emery made a mess of that first leg and that's even going into details what you mentioned (the fact that there is no team unity).

Mbappe has also been extremely poor in these two legs. I don't watch French league 'cause i don't give a shit about it, but he hasn't impressed at all in these games.

Mbappe is also young and needs a better coach perhaps. Can't slate him for being overwhelmed by the conditions.

Thanks!,Time for PSG to think about the future. Today I expected a better version, and I don't think It's only a problem with the coach

Yeah, that's fair. We have a few here at United who need time, so i take that point. Just when you go for that amount of money and fanfare, there's a certain expectation that comes your way. Fair or not. Considering this is why they bought him (to progress in the champions league), i guess i was just looking for something more perhaps.

But yeah, he is young and learning. I also don't think i slated him tbf.

We are the only team who has the mentality to beat Real Madrid.

He scored 11 league goals last season and has the grand total of 4, I repeat four, in 21 league games. Those figures are awful event taking into account that Ronaldo is the teams primary goalscorer. He is in total decline to anyone who looks at the situation without bias and preconceptions.

Benzema's goalscoring form might have been a bit poor, but that shouldn't dismiss his general contribution for RM's build-up play for many of their goals The guy isn't even a striker nowadays. Goals doesn't tell the full story when it comes to Benzema anyway. The eye test is more reliable to recognize on what Benzema does for RM.

Great team performance from Madrid must say. Maybe best one this season and that without Modric and Kroos.

Emery can pack his things, don't believe that Neymar would help him one bit considering the way they played.

PSG were useless - no fighting spirit, no belief, very poor athletic performance. this was clearly not a team. Congratulations Real for this win.

like I've said before first match, comfortable and convincing Madrid's win was pretty much what I expected. PSG really aren't that good, they're just playing in league where they are the only superclub. put Utd. in portugese league and we'd dominate it like PSG dominates french league. I'm actually not sure whether their current side is any better than those with prime Ibrahimovich and Ancelotti on the bench. they actually managed to hold their own against Barca unlike this side, who did nothing.

Spurs have already beaten them.

We have but Real are a different team in the knockouts and Ronaldo has picked up his form, as is standard for him.

Not saying (if we beat Juve) that we should go into a match against them beaten but the 2 matches from the group stages don't really reflect what a knockout tie would be like.
