Champions League Quarter Finals (5th - 13th Apr)

City have such a tacky away shirt. Might as well put a discount code on the back for Etihad flights instead of shirt numbers.

Amazing how Atletico were experienced, know-how-win, dark arts masters against us, but disgraceful, embarrassing antic-merchants today, according to the commentators.

Was it all on the basis of extra time? I switched over the Liverpool Benfica towards the end and came back at like 9 minutes of added time
Thank god. Its not just me. BT commentators and pundits are so biased its an absolute disgrace. Even the ex Utd ones. They did nothing different in the 2 ties dark art wise but we were just beaten by their experience, City were cheated and Rio just saying they were embarrassing. Someone need to have a word , honestly

Mental for a 0-0 that, very entertaining.

Hopefully Benzema is up for the semi final.

Why do people think that Savic sought out Grealish. Grealish wasn't playing and only had a minor role in the scuffle in stoppage time.
Id say, Grealish said something smart to Savic after the final whistle and Savic made for him.
You could see Grealish calling him a cnut after the Foden incident and then Savic pulled his hair

Ok people are going a bit over board with this go watch the 1967 final with herera's inter if you want to hate your life.

Atletico shot ZERO times in Manchester, ZERO, not 1. Don't give them extra credit haha.

City didn't really have clear chances. Dominated 100% of the time (Atletico let them because... Simeone) but they were toothless, not many chances at all.
Today they were very very bad, and I don't think Pep is happy with the last 45 minutes. Even if they sat behind they conceded a lot.

I don't think Atletico deserved 2 red cards, I think the penalty was fair and square and I cannot understand why VAR didn't even consider it (or I might know... ehem).

City doesn't look so favorite for the CL as I though before this knock out.

Your right, I was sure they must have had one and I was misremembering how bad they were.

I always thought Liverpool would win it this year. Think the lack of a striker affects City too much at some points in knockout competitions.

They looked pretty good against a top Liverpool side, obviously Darwin is the main attraction but Portuguese players are commonly cheaper so could see it being picked at.
Maybe to low level epl teams some guys might be worth getting but it’s an old squad with many has bins.

In midfield Joao Mario is the standout guy and nobody wants him.

Everton has been a major flop.

Darwin is the main attraction, behind him I like Goncalo Ramos as a project player.

That’s really it really

I really need one of their players to explain their collective rage at Grealish. Is it the hair, calves, Gucci or all of the above?

He called the Savic a cnut. Savic didn't like it. Not that it in anyway excuses Savic, who also headbutted Sterling.

The ref was much stronger during today's match than the ref who did the 2nd leg of United v Atletico. That ref blew his whistle for everything and today the ref didn't accept the play acting and allowed it to go both ways unless it was a blatant foul, which there was for both side, but more so Madrid on City.

If Savic and Grealish have had a fight in the tunnel, and Grealish is victorious. Is there any comeback from the shame of that for Slavic, surely it would ruin him forever.

City players all lining up to get punked by one guy . He'll have them lining up in the showers next.

Exactly. Atletico are technically very very good.

Yes they're thugs. Yes they're shameless in the way they put all the bodies behind the ball.

But when they're going for goal, they're technically excellent, and the comparisons to Burnley are embarrassing from the Caf.

They had City pinned back that entire second half. That was very impressive.

I thought they were scruffy in that final transition to Felix and the wide men. Either didn't make that last pass or got it wrong. Cost them in both legs because aside from that they had City.

Simone has done a great job down the years to frustrate other managers. But, in the end, he hasn’t won the title.

And, yes, I know that he came close in 2014 and 2016.

I mean we hit the post in the first half (the closest either team came in the entire game).

Agree on Simeone he has serious talent and keeps them on reigns. 2nd half proved they could have had a proper go and might have gone through.

Thank you, I had forgotten that post that would have killed the knock out. You are right.
But you've been very underwelming... I expected Atletico to try harder in the 2nd part but I didn't expect your "collapse" (in terms of play, not result obviously).
I don't want the 14th and today I'm more worried than yesterday... haha.

Simeone approaches might have some sense when he arrived. He had a team with some good attacking players but HORRIBLE defense. We usually had 5-4 kind of games against them or just battered them like 0-6. He made an amazing job giving their defense skills but he kept growing on that instead of trying to attack when he had proper defensive players. It is mindblowing how bad Atletico look with the talent they have. They usually scape from bad situations because of their talents and because they attack properly only when they are against the wall (like today).

Loved seeing foden roll back onto the pitch, I think we played well for the most part, Ake was outstanding when he came on, Shane freakish didn't start, think they would have been down to 10 far earlier

My fave moment of the game.

There is no way Grealish is gonna be victorious unless someone gives him the Fodens fire extinguisher

lip reading but it looked like Grealish called him a cnut and then Savic pulled his hair during the schmozzle.

Please let this be what he said, so simple, so brilliant, especially while delivered with his shit eating grin

Savic didn't have long at City, so it was probably just about the only insult Grealish could use that might have been understood.

They have fantastic footballers, I wouldn't say comparisons to Burnley are fair, but their manager sets them up like cowards. They win though so fair play to them. I'd be very interested to see that team under a more attacking manager for comparison.
That's a good point yeah, and same to everyone else who responded to my post.

I wish they played more attacking obviously. They look excellent going forward.

But on the other hand, they conceded only once against United and only once against City, over a total of 4 ties. That's trademark Simeone, focusing on defence first. Difficult to watch, almost impossible to support, but fair play to them, they gave it a real go at the end there.

And of course big congrats to City, that was very professional. That was a very difficult hurdle to clear. Not just football-wise but all the drama as well.

My fave moment of the game.

Loads of great moments
- Fodens roll
- grealish calling Savic a cnut
- simeone getting carded for trying to help calm things down
- refereeing allowing Mahrez to timewaste, take a free kick, then stop to give him a yellow card and retake the kick, thus wasting more time.
- all the handbags
- tunnel police
- savics stare after the match

Yeah I mean its hard to knock what they do vs the opposition they compete against and win but its tough.
Poor and all as we were on the pitch today, I think its the first time we behaved like a "real" CL team. We'd have lost that game 10 times out of 10 before last season.
