I could see Real make a move for Reece James after that. They sorely need fullbacks and he was immense tonight.

Liverpool will get Villareal in the draw, they're that lucky :wenger: It's either City or L'pool this year, Real Madrid are over reliant on 2-3 players and were really really lucky on both legs against Chelsea, while Villareal dream should be over by now.
They're playing Villareal mate, draws already been made.

To you and the others like @MUFC OK
I am glad we actually didn‘t play or dominate like this.
When we made glorious comebacks we at least made sure we won the tie. Even Ole managed it against PSG.
And Real aren‘t even that good anymore, a lot of past it players. And when the dramatic posts started Chelsea were only drawing the tie or maybe leading by 1 goal.

Look, Chelsea have mostly been good in Europe, they have reached so many semis in the last two decades. And Tuchel is a good coach. But as I said, RM are not as good as they used to be and losing 1-3 at Stamford Bridge isn‘t
They did dominate though, 3-0 up. I take your point about Milan to be fair as they were similarly past their best. Rather than try to diminish the past I’d rather think about how we can get back to competing at this level.

In hindsight the two wins against Villarreal were very good indeed, especially the away game.

Excellent game from Chelsea. We were lucky.Good substitutions Rodrygo and Camavinga.
I think that today was the demonstration of the rise of Camavinga and the decline of Kroos. At least in this type of games. We miss Militao very much.
Tomorrow I'm going with Atlético. They already have some mental problem against us and I think it would be much easier

Fair play to Chelsea, they were superb tonight. Best game I've seen in ages.

I sort of want to see him play at RW once. He's so good on the ball, it seems a bit criminal to not see him attack more.

Ancelotti stops being a moron anf starts Camavinga and Rodrygo, we can talk
Absolutely.

They're critical at this point. He's turned around two ties now by subbing them on. They need to start!

I thought Ancelotti might have left it too late this time but it worked out very well.

Beating PSG and then Chelsea is an amazing achievement. Hardest path out of anyone in the CL and only Real Madrid could have done it. Real's reputation precedes them.

Why is Anchelotti persisting with Kroos though? It has been clear in other UCL games this season that he isn't up to it physically anymore to play at this level, is it just not trusting Camavinga for UCL matches yet?

All our midfielders should be made watch videos on Modric . 36 years old . 120 minutes and winning tackles in the 119 minute .
That was brilliant 119th minute 36 years old, “Modric much too strong in the tackle”..

I would never understand how Real Madrid do this kind of things. Barca need to be outstanding to even challenge for the CL but they don't. It doesn't matter if they play poorly they still can win the whole thing. I still remember that Anelka CL 20 years ago when they finished 5th in the league and still won it.

Ah that is absolutely gutting, but congrats @GatoLoco @giorno and the rest of the Real Madrid chaps on here.
Thank you, WeePat.

I think we got dominated today for the most part but somehow the team miraculously managed to keep alive in the end. I was not expecting it to be honest.

You have a great team btw. Nothing that we didn't know already.

Hell of an effort by Chelsea. Gave themselves too much to do but no shame in going out to Madrid like that in the second leg.

Yeah Azpilicueta at LWB really killed us first leg I think.
Jorginho and Christensen too. The big difference tonight was we couldn't attack in transition thanks to James(monster performance) locking down Vini and Kovacic and Kante essentially ensuring you always had numerical superiority and forcing us to slow down.

Werner's pace and relentlesness were an issue for us too.

If we had one more killer in our attack to put away these clutch chances we’d be golden. We simply don’t have that consistent, lethal forward.

Needs to be addressed this summer.

Yeah true. Though I thought Christensen was way too isolated than he should have been in part because our back line was always shuffling left to cover for Azpi. As you say though, James was incredible (especially for ~110 minutes on a booking).

Kroos is only 32 and Camavinga is only 19. You don't give such a responsibility to a young player. Ancelotti is handling this correctly.

By the way Modric is 36 and Benzema 34. I mean it is not certain that Kroos is finished, he might be having temporary problems.

Anyone else (United fans) get a bit down watching other teams?

Every time, they show so much more commitment and heart. You can see how much they care.

Haven’t seen anything like that from United in over a year. Chelsea will be disappointed but I’d love United to show that energy just once this season.

Mad respect to Villarreal

EL winner last year, UCL Simifinalist this year, even though we beat them twice in the group stage, they still managed to qualify and ousted Juve and Bayern

My post you quoted was posted too early, I completed it and provided another example :D
Seriously the only slight regret I have is that no matter who the manager is we can’t do a Liverpool 2005 or Chelsea 2012.

Apart from that we don’t really lack nights like today. I could also ask questions like how many teams could beat a decent team like Roma in the CL quarters 7-1?
Of course we need to improve and all that, but I am really tired of people negatively speaking about United in every thread and exaggerating everything.

I spent all night screaming at vini to take him on to try and get him the second yellow

James was often isolated too but he dealt with him really well
