Champions League Quarter Finals (3rd - 11th April)

For someone with City Lover tag, you guys seem quite unfamiliar with Pep's tactic?

Fernandinho can drop in as a CB (he did in game at OT in the second half) and make it 3 at the back. Sane was seen playing as left wing back before.

I shifted to klopp after liverpool win .

But that leaves a midfield of silva x2 and kdb, thats not balanced at all.
Fernandinho in midfield. I expect City will go with a back 3 of Walker, Otamendi and Laporte.

Thats what I am expecting too.

Think we'll play like a crazy 352 tonight for sure, more a 3142. Something like...

--------------------Ederson-------------------
-----------Fernand-Otamendi-Laporte----------
----------------------KDB---------------------
Walker------Bernadro--------Silva---------Sane
-----------------------------------------------
-------------Sterling-------Jesus---------------
You missed one player in your line up :smirk:

It's not conventional tactic. This is similar to what Barcelona used in return leg vs PSG last season. They basically risk everything and leave the defense out to get every possible drop of attack potent.

It's hard to gauge the balance (there is no regard for balance to begin with) when it comes to these tactic, but it was shown to work in Barcelona case. It's up to players' ability

Whoever wins, we'll never hear the bloody last of it. :(

Barca midfield was still more balanced (rakitic/gomes,rafinha/roberto,iniesta/turan), pep is basically playing three AMs in midfield.

KDB as a defensive MD?! No chance

He's played him there before when needed, At first I was thinking Walker will play where I have Fernandinho, Fern will play where I have KDB and Bernardo on the wing. But he will use Walker and Sane like wingbacks, this is not something he's shied away from before.

A slightly more aggressive this...
The reason being, width is a huge thing for Pep and so is holding the touchline for the wingers.

We may see

------ederson-----
walker--ota--laporte
--------fern--------
bern--kdb--silva-sane
------ster--jesus-----

But I don't think Pep will have faith in Bernardo tracking back to make a back 5 like Walker will.

Liverpool has to go gung-ho attack. They can afford to get scored on if they score once.

Unfortunately coaches never do this in this situation. People still haven't adapted strategically to away goal rule quite yet.

Wijnaldum, Ox and Milner in midfield? Jeez. Looking at that Liverpool line up, bar the front 3 and Van Dijk, they wouldn't look out of place in an Everton line up. i thought Klopp had spent £250m+? I didn't think City had much chance but I'm starting to think Liverpool might need to score twice to get through.

Clearly Pep has learnt nothing from his humiliation last week. This kind of line-up is exactly what Klopp will have wanted, and I'm betting he's rubbing his hands with glee. Liverpool will easily pick City off high up the pitch. I can see this being an ugly result for City, barring a complete Liverpool capitulation.

This reminds me of the time that bonehead Ricky Hatton tried to go toe to toe with Manny Pacquiao, and got sparked out within two rounds.

It confirms Pep only has one way of playing, and he's lucky he has world class players to play that system. There is no way he could do with Liverpool what he has managed with City, with the personnel they have.

Also:  at the pathetic puny Emptihad atmosphere. Proof if any were needed that City are far from European elites, and merely a rich Arab's plaything.

They just beat us 3-0 with 2 of those and Henderson playing instead of Wijndalum.

Kop and Klopp are not (yet) a serious threat. But the money doped noisy neighbours are. They need taking down. More misery for them sets them up for losses to Spurs and Swansea, they will still win the league, but with doubts, with doubts. That’s why through gritted teeth I’ll be hoping the Scouse don’t fold.

I know. It's baffling. They did ship 5 against you away and 4 at Spurs, even 3 at Arsenal, so I can only assume they rely a lot on the Anfield atmosphere.

Good post: one fix :)

This is awful.

 that's 100% more offensive than anything Liverpool chucked at them last week.

Listening to the radio coverage and they're slating the City fans for lack of atmosphere/empty seats (!) any truth in this?

Unless he isn't fit enough to start, surprised Kompany isn't playing, City need to go for it, obviously, but equally they need to keep the back door locked.

As a United fan I'd rather have City win but they've been very cocky all season and for that reason I'd be rooting for pool today. However I hope they get the worse draw possible in the semis (Real Madrid preferably) so that they can also bow out of the competition as quickly as possible. No doubt it's going to be a cracking game tonight.

Yep, plenty of empty seats (though the traffic may be an issue :p), and the atmosphere is pretty librarian.
