Champions League Last 16 games - Feb/Mar 2015

I find it funny that you keep asking stuff like that. It was only last season, the year you won it!!

Anyway, there's no way in hell that Schalke knock you out.
:( I know, and I watched the game aswell. I just have a really shit memory for all things football, it sucks when you try to converse on a football forum.

Big chance for Lucas Silva, he starts for Real Madrid tonight.

Also a sign (as if it wasn't obvious...) that Ancelotti really has no faith in Illarramendi.

Schalke: Wellenreuther - Uchida, Höwedes, Matip, Nastasic, Aogo - Neustädter, Höger - K.-P. Boateng - Huntelaar, Choupo-Moting

Real: Casillas - Carvajal, Pepe, Varane, Marcelo - T. Kroos, Lucas Silva - Isco - Bale, Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo

I hope Schalke has improved their defending or else it will get nasty. With the level of Sporting's defence this year, i can't even imagine the trashing we would possibly get from Real :nervous:

Not sure what the other Chelsea fans on here think but I'm usually In support of defensive football against the big teams as it tends to yield results.
Last night was probably the first time since Jose came back that I was disappointed with the approach. PSG, out of form and with injuries were there for the taking. We should have went for the jugular.

That doesn't matter with Mourinho. He very rarely changes his away approach in knockout stages.

Are Schalke going to be competitive or will they be 4 goals down after thirty minutes?

I know and it is a proven method. Last night was just disappointing for once. Decent result in the end (as planned).

On a side, what's everyone's thoughts on the Porto game? Porto seem to be surprising favourites.

Depends on how lucky di Matteo is. For reference, Schalke lost their last match away to Frankfurt (midtable side) with an incredibly poor performance. Maybe they won't get spanked, but I think it's highly unlikely that Schalke get anything from this game.

Hard to call. I watch neither the Portuguese nor the Swiss league, so all I have seen of either team were CL group game highlights. Porto are group winners and have the more high profile players, which makes them favourites I guess.

It's a hard one mate. I've been looking at that game for betting purposes and i don't know what to pick. I'd probably go for a draw. Lopetegui's Porto doesn't convince me but they do have very good individual players to shine and decide a match. Basel has been very strong in the last years in European football and has played well against top opposition. Paulo Sousa is a defensive manager and he will probably value not suffering any goals. And i can see Lopetegui setting up a defensive team to solve the tie at the Dragão. Don't have many expectations about the quality of this game, i think it will be a tight affair. Will probably just watch Schalke vs Real.

Farfan is always missing for Schalke in the champs league, big miss.
He hasn't played a game for 12 months now. There were some complications with his knee injury, no idea when he'll return.

How the feck can Kroos and Cristiano about that? Clear yellow.

Yellow card this? Doesn't look like an english ref criteria

I don't think he played in the group stages. I don't remember him playing against us
Yeah just seen, wow thats a really long time, any idea what the injury is, always liked seeing him play.

Decent start by Schalke. Kinda skeptical since they suffered 7 goals against us but seems they have improved.

Something with the cartilage in his knee. It didn't heal properly, so he had to undergo surgery in the summer, but it seems like it still takes time.

Why do Sky never put their regular Spanish pundits on when Spanish teams are playing in Europe? They're not perfect but it's really annoying having to listen to these imbeciles who couldn't sound less knowledgeable about Real Madrid if they tried.

Real do like their vibrantly coloured kits, don't they?

Dark green, blue, black, pink, orange, red... I can't think of a colour they haven't tried.

Same problem here in Portugal.

I'm surprised at that as well. They must have different contracts and arrangements
