Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Why were so many United fans rooting against PSG? I know they're detestable as a club, but surely the hate for City takes precedence?

We need more stronger sides in the competition to lessen City's chances of winning.

Because we are viewed as the French Manchester City and Chelsea, plastic club etc

also, serie A really screwed italian teams. Finishing in august, you can see they're completely knackered now. Atalanta were the better team until their legs gave out

It's actually quite funny how everyone here feels sorry for Atalanta. 29 fouls is just too much for me. Everybody here hates all those tactical fouls of City but Atalanta was on another level tonight, they didn't try to defend Paris, they just tried to stop them with breaking their rhythm with a foul in every situation Paris was in a decent position.
Of course as a neutral you will always root for the underdog. But for me the performance was too unsympathetic. I heard so much good things about Atalanta, how they are tearing apart Serie A with beautiful football but tonight i didn't see anything of that.

Don't really care that much about the idea of City winning it. Liverpool winning it and widening the gab with us even further with a big enough disaster.

Psychologically this win could be very important for PSG. This PSG squad has been on the end of some astonishing turnarounds in the Champions League. Tonight, when they were 5 minutes from failing to get through again, those same PSG players produced their own comeback. With a bit of confidence Neymar doesn't bottle those first half chances and its a very different game. If this PSG team can find faith in itself following this win they just might be able to go all the way.

I agree with him all honestly. Atlanta played crazy attacking football this year. They're allowed one negative game against an opposition that's on paper much better and have better quality, especially when they're leading and can't risk opening spaces.

What got them out is poor defending at the end. They couldn't keep it up for 5 more minutes, which is shame.
Tbh I took a dig at Jose as the poster who wrote this is a Spurs fan.
Nothing against Atalanta playing like this. However it depends who is applying these tactics and with what success.
Jose playing embarrassingly negative football at OT against Sevilla or at Stamford Bridge against Atletico and then not even winning the game really doesn’t deserve to win a big CL game.

Really?

Maybe because you just expect them to crash out. What if they get to the final? You wouldn't feel different?

I'm a happy man tonight.

I'm also happy Neymar didin't loose it because he was fouled like 10 times.

We were talking about Atlanta only that's all. He was replaying to someone saying this anti-football needed to be banned. Atlanta is the last team in Europe to be labelled "anti-football". They have crazy attacking numbers with players you'll barely even know their name.

I feel like they're going to win it at one point anyway to be honest. Top class manager with top class squad, and loads of money invested in it, it's going to happen eventually. It'll still be 1 CL title, not like they were danger our 3 titles overall. Liverpool winning it was a bigger disaster imo.

Got to feel for Atlanta. They put in such an effort.

As for PSG, they're insufferable. I thought I was watching the final there towards the end.

If City and PSG played the CL final I doubt I'd even watch it, would be such a meaningless game to the neutral.
Plasticity will have truly taken over top flight football.
If this happens it needs to be billed as the UAE state vs the Qatar state which has absolutely nothing to do with the merits of winning the European Cup. Just a money fest really with dead bodies propping up any ‘achievement’

Can't believe the score, saw it 1-0 all game on my phone, shocked to turn it on and see Atalanta lost it in the space of 3 fecking minutes!

Well Bayern all the way now for me. Can't expect Lyon to win it so...

Neymar is the only thing I like about PSG, but I don’t think they’ll beat Atletico.
Also if City reach the final (big IF) I believe Atletico would rather beat them than PSG.

Why does it feel like underdog teams always lose an important player too early in the game or even miss them.

2013: Dortmund missing Gotze
2014: Diego Costa quick injury.
2018: Salah quick injury.

Those were all finals. Now Atalanta without Ilicic and Gomez leaving early in the 2nd half.

As usual, context would help... Atalanta got knackered in the end, with their supposed deeper bench (in terms of number of lively players) failed big time. As the minnows of the competition, they can well held their head high... higher than Juventus and Inter from Italy, to call failures a spade.

My dislike for PSG stems mainly from my dislike for Neymar, as well as cringey stuff like their entire team mocking Haaland after their win in the return leg against Dortmund due to some random social media account (not actually Haaland) having previously tweeted about Haaland owning Paris.

I think players like Navas, Bernat, Thiago Silva, etc. are all pretty likeable. I'm not a fan of Mbappe though (incredible footballer obviously) and I really can't stand Neymar's antics.

As for favourites, you well know every game is different... whoever they meet in the semis, they will make for a tough game, with Atletico possibly entering as the toughest match.

When you consider PSG didn't have their league behind them, missing Di Maria and Veratti, and that this seemed to be destined another bottle job, this turn around can do wonders for their self-belief in the future, and they'll be much stronger next round when the absent players come back.

Haha, of course you will say this considering how your manager plays - but in the end it looks really bad if the negative tactics don’t even win you the game especially if you were the favourites (doesn’t apply to Atalanta obviously)
I said it as a Norn Iron fan.

That was Haaland that posted that not a fake

I was pretty desperate at the 80'mn to be honest. Neymar had an amazing game bar 2 terrible misses, it would have been such a disapointement not to score because we clearly had opportunities.

Why are people writing off RB against Atletico?

For starters Werner is gone and they can't register a replacement. He started basically every single game, they were set up to get the best out of him and I don't think they have someone who can just slot into that role. Poulsen is also injured, leaving them with just the one striker available even though they basically have been using two the entire season.
Equally important Atletico are seasoned veterans when it comes to European knockout matches. Leipzig and Nagelsmann are not.

Haaland picture is him obviously.
But the Snapchat caption "my city not yours" is fake as Haaland doesn't have a Snapchat account, meaning the supposed Haaland banter was someone who edited an existing Haaland picture.

As a result the entire PSG squad decided to mock a 19 year old that scored against them in the first game in retaliation for a social media post that was actually by a fan account.

Fair enough. By all accounts, Nagelsmann is a brilliant manager, so who knows he might be able to pull an upset.

It's just so strange that people even care about this. I think it makes the game more fun but people are acting like Haaland was getting bullied or something; Kimpembe did that during the game, but that's it.

PSG aren't plastic though, to be fair. They hardly have any fans outside Paris.
Is that what constitutes a plastic club? No. Is it an historically nothing club being pumped with money by a rich oil sugar daddy? Yes. PSG are a crap club.
