Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

For starters Werner is gone and they can't register a replacement. He started basically every single game, they were set up to get the best out of him and I don't think they have someone who can just slot into that role. Poulsen is also injured, leaving them with just the one striker available even though they basically have been using two the entire season.
Equally important Atletico are seasoned veterans when it comes to European knockout matches. Leipzig and Nagelsmann are not.

Leipzig is the only team to deny us a goal in 2020. They can defend pretty well, too. I can totally see this going into a pen shootout. If Leipzig even scores first, we might see them cruising this home rather comfortably.
Atletico are very hard to beat if they have things going their way, but their minimalistic approach leaves little room for errors. Leipzig just walked over Mou's Tottenham, there's no reason to write them off before the game has started.

Headlines around the game yesterday are moronic.

Would have been a shock if PSG went out to a team with a turnover of €180m a year, Mbappe and Neymar alone cost 2 years of Atalanta revenue. The sooner football is turned in to a proper sporting competition rather than an economic one the better I think. Will always be the same teams in the last 8 of the CL forever. Going to get old very fast.

That's really a weird way to count fans. The same people could be following the club on Face, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube. You can't simply add them up.
Not to mention that they could be following more than one club at a time. But then again the new age fan is a bit more fickle.

I hope Atletico win tonight. Would love their match up with PSG.

Congrats on the win. How do you feel about a potential matchup with Atletico?

I'm not sure tbh. (probably) loosing Navas is a tough one. Atletico is really good to lock the game, especially in a single game, but who knows what can happen with Neymar and Mbappé. I feel more convident on this side of the bracket though.

Do you complain when Chelsea play Bournemouth or Norwich and its basically the same thing?

I'm not saying I disagree with you because football for the most part is the richest team wins. It hasn't been a legitimate competition for a long time.

Was referring to a lot of press coverage making out like PSG actually achieved anything by winning yesterday. Game was a total miss match in terms of the clubs relative resources and you could see watching, only thing that kept it competitive was PSG woeful finishing in the first half. They should have hammered Atalanta, no miracle to see PSG go through even if they're 1 0 down after 87 minutes.

Fair enough. Point still stands though. Do you complain when Chelsea have a big revenue advantage against other clubs. For example; Kepa costs more than Burnleys strike force.

I thought Barcelona were already out since i see no talk of them as potential winners.

For me they are favorites over Bayern and pretty much anyone else left, except City who would make it 50/50.

With a hand on your heart... have you watched Barcelona the past year - and in the CL, the past five years?

Bayern will tear them apart. No amount of Messi would be enough

Either they suddenly become comprehensively better in the space of a week, or they get hammered

It is considering the injuries psg has, and there were a lot. On top of which psg deserved to win, they were comfortably the better team

Does 3-1 Bayern sound fair? We are going to need to shithouse a win but I do fancy our chances much more in one leg as oppose to two. Hopefully Bayern have an off day or something

Can't see Leipzig doing anything tonight without Werner... They should have struck a deal with Chelsea so he left after the CL.

No, but I watched Bayern even less!

Barca has experience which can be critical in these games. They have a couple bottlers like Vidal but the likes of Suarez and Messi always appear in these moments.

Atletico wouldn’t have given Werner the space he needs to do damage anyway. It certainly doesn’t help that he’s out but their other forwards are pretty good

I hope to have your optimism. Cheers

Nah, experience is good. But being a better football team is more important.

This is what I mean, so what if PSG have a couple of injuries... They're on a different planet to Atalanta with Mbappe, Draxler, Paredes and more on the bench! Of course they deserved to win, Neymar should have had at least 2 and probably a hat-trick by half time. Difference in class of players is quite ridiculous even with a couple of injuries.

Neymar makes €36.8 m a year, more than the entire Atalanta squad who make €36m total! FFS  :

Not many around excited about today’s game it seems

I am, want Atletico to go though and then on to the final hopefully!

Barca have been underwhelming in recent times, especially in this competition. Enough to mention the last two years fiascos. It's not even really fun to watch them anymore, with that slow buildup and predictable patterns. But they are still a side stacked with experience, talent, and they also have the best player in the history of the game. When they're at their best, they're still better than anyone.

Have to fancy Atletico tonight, Werner missing for RB Leipzig is a massive blow and Atletico love to suffocate teams and frustrate them and can see them easily doing that tonight.

Also PSG v Atletico would be some semi-final

Agree with what you said. First half against Napoli was pretty fun but the Setien had them park the bus in the second half which was nerve wracking. Hopefully the Bayern game will be a good one even if we need to be a bit jammy if we are hoping to win.
