I keep hearing this here and elsewhere (from Rio on BT Sports for example). You realize, that our insane pressing is only possible with a "ridiculous high line", right? You can't just press with 3 or 4 players at the front and leave the rest way behind. Otherwise your opponent will have enormouse space in midfield once he passed the pressing line.
Additionally, when pressing that intense, you obviously not only put pressure on the player with the ball but also try to reduce the passing opportunities. That means that your defenders have to be really close to the opponents attackers and that the pressing players have to try to put some players in their "Deckungsschatten" (Google say "cover shadow" would be the right translation, is that a word in english football?). Once the opponent passed the first pressing line, the last line should drop a bit.
That being said, we didn't execute the last bit properly against Barca. Especially Davies and Kimmich sometimes were late to start running for a ball behind their back and the pressure on the ball wasn't big enough several times in these situations.
My point is just: Bayerns pressing was admired after the game, but they were critized for the high line in defense. Well, one thing isn't possible without the other.
