Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

This has been a great Saturday night post covid! I’m going to have a cigarette :lol: let’s feckin hope united play well tomorrow night!

Jesus City. Lyon? Absolutely bottled it. Seems the fans are really pinning it on Pep messing with the team unnecessarily. That miss from Sterling was shocking too. Still 7th in Ligue 1! Fair enough they are probably better than that and should be higher but never predicted them to win this. Complacency has to be an issue here as well.

Sorry, I disagree, you could have a game where one own goal decides it so team a loses but they could have had 99% possession, hit the woodwork numerous times, intricate passing moves but the strikers just keep missing. How in this scenario is team b better?
99:1 possession. 30:1 shots...doesn't matter. Team which won the game is by default better and deserved to win. Better at that moment of course.
Winner in football is decided by scored goals. Not shots, tricks, luck, possession, passion or some other stuff.

The bet makes zero sense and you sound silly. If I am talking about THIS season comparisons between the clubs why the feck would I make a bet on next season.

You need to read before making non sensical posts.

Ajax did win there league but they are also the richest and strongest club in there league in a league that is worse then Ligue 1.

My point stands. Lyon have played better football then Juve this season just as Ajax did last season.

I am talking about the current season.

Why would I make a bet when one club has far superior finances and resources to buy and recruit top players.

Reading your last post and "justification" of "put your money where your mouth is might have actually given me cancer.

folks, this is just a gigantic Ronaldo’s arse cover, which only makes this poster pretty sad to read.

i really hope Ronaldo buggers off asap so this circus can move along with him and we club fans can move on accordingly

aaaand, I’m betting £1 that even this horrid season for Juve’s recent standards, they will win more than Lyon

aaaaaaalso adding that Juve went backwards when they decided to go all-in on a certain player two yeras ago, just swapping their usual pluckiness, sum-more-than-the-parts, cohesive hard-working unit attitude for a very tumescent ball-to-mad-shooter who will bail all out.

Sarri being sacked only solves half problem, you know, right? The other half still preventing full rebuild.

Barcelona were knackered and you pressed them for 90minutes. It was clear as day. You'd still have beaten them in normal conditions, but not by that scoreline.

It's not fewer resting days ffs, it's weeks of resting days! You've had a pre season unlike Spain, England and Italy who will be charging straight back into another campaign. Anyone remotely objective could see the fitness level difference in your game. You honestly don't think having a mentally and physically fatigued team isn't an issue in a knockout competition? Come on... it's been a big issue for all our leagues in the last few weeks.

Our players have had huge issues with fatigue, Rashford can barely run.

As for City, I predicted they'd lose and actually made money on it, so i'm very happy tonight. :)

Knackered from what exactly?

Give it a rest. They're football players. They run. Everyone played the same number of games in the same amount of time.

Hell I would bet you $500 Bayern batter them in the next round. That still would not change my point.

I feel that you are exaggerating a bit, Lyon were bad under Sylvinho mainly because they were extremely inconsistent and would leak goals for no good reasons, they also had some interesting moments going forward but aat the end of the day they could deservedly lose against almost all Ligue 1 teams outside of Toulouse.
Now Juventus were shambolic from top to finish they were poor going forward and painfully average defensively but had enough raw talent to force things one or two times per games. Watching them was very difficult, they actually reminds me Marseille this season but at least Marseille lacks talent and based everything on discipline and very good coaching.

Reluctantly have to root for Bayern now. Don't want to see PSG or worse Leipzig lifting that trophy. Plus their team and management aren't as unlikeable as previous installments.

Dude no one even mentioned Ronaldo

You have some serious problems my friend.

I have proved you wrong many of times before I don't have time for you:lol:

You were balls deep into Sarri ball and that fell flat in your face like I predicted all the way back in September.

"Different year, same stuff." Exactly how I felt during Peps time. At the end I was really done with the high backline every single game. Any team couuld score at any time. Still don't understand why he is so stubborn. He is such a great manager in every other aspect.
Look at the 3rd goal City conceded today, it has answer to your question regarding Pep's preferred high line.

Pep defenders' profile often means that for technical ability, attack potent, they're not the best pure defenders out there. It's better for them to defend away from goal. In that goal, City defenders were well beaten in mud fight. However, they could have recovered if not for GK feck up. They placed the odd on scoring more, and keeping possession to win game. Defenders and GK that can start attack, help with keeping possession clearly is the aim. Thing is you don't get a team as perfect like that Barcelona very often.

Defensing deep, then I doubt Pep has a clue how to set them up, and he may need to buy and entire new defense. Teams would feast on them if that how they're defending deep like the third goal.

Oh I agree on sylvinho. Rudi Garcia has done well with this team and they have some nice talent coming through.

I am rooting for Bayern as well. Fantastic team and I really like the look of alphonso Davies.

Well you know where you can stick your annoyance now. Hopefully you were not too lazy to bookmark like I did.

Got me a little bit of change too.

I wouldn’t have even brought this up, but this exchange really pissed me off, acting high and mighty as if I wasn’t entitled to think City would not win.

Fair play! Nice double win that.

we won the league you clown, we also won it before your man, while CL went considerably worse with your man

you would even won’t know who juve is if your idol was not in turin... when will he call a day? He does not need €31m/year for this sh*t, right? Cut your salary and go back to mighty Madrid then??

Why do you keep mentioning Ronaldo when he was never Brought up? my god did he sleep with your girlfriend?

No one is even talking about him stop being weird :wenger: ok you were wrong we get it, you will get one right eventually jeez don't let it get to you so much:lol:

You should congratulate your Government on being able to actually deal with Covid in a efficient and organised way unlike us chumps.

So now the UK and Spanish government's are to blame for the EPL and La Liga teams being sh*te in the UCL?

I have already explained it and you keep saying the same thing

Lyon proved my point today so there you go ;)
But Lyon weren't the better team, despite winning....

Am I doing it right?

Knackered from what exactly?

Give it a rest. They're football players. They run. Everyone played the same number of games in the same amount of time.

Not really sure I follow... Ligue 1 cancelled their season back in March. Lyon have played 3 games in the last 5 months. City played 14 times in 2 months. Fitness was a factor in these quarter finals, not really an excuse for City given their strength in depth mind you. But it's why i'm relieved we're playing Sevilla in the semis because at least it's a level playing field.

So now the UK and Spanish government's are to blame for the EPL and La Liga teams being sh*te in the UCL?

That was clearly a tongue in cheek comment...

Circus ongoing, have fun. It won’t last long and you will disappear with that.

At the time i was online you seemed to pop up everywhere and put a strong emphasis on your thinking. I didn't go along with it, just looked at the players and thought City would come out on top (didn't bet, not a betting man atm) but congrats on your good thinking and the bet. Juicy odds, you made the bookies pay, always nice to see.

Missing a sitter and then conceding right after :lol:

And I thought the laughs would end after Barca got hit for 8 yesterday

Very mediocre effort by the four English and Spanish reps in this seasons Champions league. Credit to Lyon and Leipzig for reaching the last 4 against the odds and would be great to see one if not both reach the final however it will likely be a Champions league final between the best in Germany and France.

It’s just some issues I have with this City team. This isn’t the first time this has happened this season. In December before we went to the Etihad and won, I got into the same conversations on here as I was the only one that was confident we’d go there and win. I said the same before Arsenal beat them in the FA Cup semis too. All three games followed the similar pattern for the most, and I don’t think they are as unpredictable as made out.

For tonight’s game there is the added factor of them not having cleared this hurdle of the CL for ages and clearly suffering mentally at this stage of the tournament. And no Aguero. In my heart, and I’m not just saying this, but I’d have genuinely been surprised if they had won tonight. I know that in a pre-season friendly they’d beat this Lyon side 4-0, but I just didn’t see them having what it took tonight.

Hate to say it but, Liverpool just have that pedigree in the CL. Even when they had spent years out of the tournament, they came back and got straight to the latter rounds, including knocking out a City team that were domestically superior. They know these roads. City and PSG are just hollow to me, and they have something missing, which means that despite their superior players, their team has no spirit. On a tactical side, City could do with a plan B too. I just knew Lyon would sit deep and they would run out of ideas at the edge of the box, as they did against us and Arsenal in the games I mentioned. Wouldn’t hurt them to have an Ighalo option like us, and maybe put some crosses in sometimes. The goal they did manage to score against us at the Etihad was a header from a corner. This low block and counter/long ball with pace in behind will hurt them again and again until they sort their shit out.

No surprise they can never fecking beat Wolves either, for example. For teams with good defensive shape and pace in attack, they are easy to play against. In between both boxes, City will always be superior though.

The champions league is just consistently mad... I mean all 4 of these quarters have been crazy in one way or another.

I want the best of 1 tournament to stay. So fun to watch.

 people just refuse to admit they were wrong
Glad you can at least admit that, at least that's something!
You stated Juve were lucky, were Lyon not lucky tonight?
Sketchy VAR call, Sterling missed open goal,
Not that I give a damn, as city lost!!
But you are a contradictory hypocrite!

Well done, excellent mic drop moment.

Don’t waste your time. I have him on ignore but it is mostly some pseudo elaborated post to shift blame away from Ronaldo. „Worst Juve ever.“ „Real only won the league because Barca was even worse.“ Rinse and repeat...

Welcome to the dark side mate. It is surprisingly sunny here.

The British media said on Friday obviously from information from Bookmakers that Manchester City were favourites to win the champions league. That was before Barcelona, Bayern and Lyon played. How arrogant can you get? Tell me please how anyone would think City are favourites against Bayern ? I don't get it.

Bayern versus Barcelona.

Bayern's last fixture (before CL started) was 4th July having played 11 games in 48 days
Barcelona last fixture was 19th July having played 11 games in 36 days

They shouldn't have got spanked 8-2 and clearly Barcelona have been struggling lately, Bayern got 2 weeks more rest which is still pretty big but shouldn't have been as big a deal. Still, i'd be interested to see the distance covered stats on that game, I think I read somewhere it was 109km to 98km in Bayern Munichs favour. I think PL clubs generally average 10.5km per outfield player for example.

Either way, it's all subjective on whether you think fatigue plays a crucial role in football games. When you're playing against the best in knockout competitions i'd certainly want a fit team over a leggy one. I do approve of the knockout tournament style though, think it benefits the bigger clubs less. I'll be rooting for Lyon to go all the way this year, although Bayern clearly are the favourites.

Dembele value gone up 20 million even though no club in England think he’s good enough
He's got Everton for £50m written all over him.

Fans will salivate at a Richarlison/Dembele strike force leading them into the top 4 then they will finish 8th-12th.
