Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Well you know where you can stick your annoyance now. Hopefully you were not too lazy to bookmark like I did.

Got me a little bit of change too.

I wouldn’t have even brought this up, but this exchange really pissed me off, acting high and mighty as if I wasn’t entitled to think City would not win.

 fair play on producing the betting slip

I thought that by luck you mean when you hit pists, miss empty goals etc....
If ref has impact that is something else. I should have said; if one team wins fair i guess. When ref cost you a game it is not luck. It is robbery.
There will always be numerous situations in a game that are not down to skills, but to pure coincidences, where a player ending up doing something he never intended, e.g. a mishit pass ending up as a "brilliant" through ball, a bad shot taking a reflection etc. Luck is a big part of football. Hitting the post is not bad luck; that´s a finish almost good enough.

Just caught up on the highlights. Some hilarious stuff by City.

What is missing is Pep going bonkers. Too bad if it didn't happen.

Can someone answer me a question

The BT commentators were absolutely furious that the Lyon 2nd goal stood. What was wrong with it? Dembele was not offside, and Laporte initiated the contact that led to him falling over. So why should the goal have been disallowed? He wasn't offside and he didn't make a foul. Surely we can't be calling fouls for defenders running into forwards and then falling over?

Or was it just a case of sour grapes because the British team conceded?

I'm disappointed it took you a whole paragraph to figure that out.

The British media said on Friday obviously from information from Bookmakers that Manchester City were favourites to win the champions league. That was before Barcelona, Bayern and Lyon played. How arrogant can you get? Tell me please how anyone would think City are favourites against Bayern ? I don't get it.

The British media are usually a year late to information, especially outside of england and spain ( 3 months late in england, 6 in spain). Despite Bayern being so dominant since November, they still have them down as Kovac's Bayern.

British arrogance. It goes much further than just football haha. I've lived here all my life. We are a very very arrogant nation in general.

Ah, you are observing the false narrative peddled by brexiteers called British exceptionalism!

We are also seeing it from Boris during COVID-19 pandemic, despite having horrific numbers, and yet to get our ‘world beating’ track and trace app!

Of course it would also extend to football!

I'm not observing anything from bloody Brexiteers I can assure you of that! I'm observing my own experiences having lived here for 28 years!

Covid was a perfect example. Everyone is going into lockdown? Lets try herd immunity for 2 weeks & remember to sing happy birthday when you wash your hands, since we know so much better than everyone else. The result, worst death rate in Europe. Cheers Boris.

Yes.

Even the commentator, Owen I think it was, was like "not VAR for City again" and seemed to suggest it was a clear offside when the Lyon player never made any difference to the play.

Just caught the highlights and delighted with the result. City stumble yet again in the CL. Their performance seemed pretty average for a team of their quality (over the years). Incredible miss by Sterling.

Glad you can at least admit that, at least that's something!
You stated Juve were lucky, were Lyon not lucky tonight?
Sketchy VAR call, Sterling missed open goal,
Not that I give a damn, as city lost!!
But you are a contradictory hypocrite!
Lyon for sure were lucky tonight, I never said otherwise ??

99:1 possession. 30:1 shots...doesn't matter. Team which won the game is by default better and deserved to win. Better at that moment of course.
Winner in football is decided by scored goals. Not shots, tricks, luck, possession, passion or some other stuff.

I won’t say you’re wrong but it’s all about perspective. Are united a better team under Ole than Moyes?

just wait a few weeks and let them tweak the numbers a bit...again, that’ll see reported our death rate drop and we’ll all be safe to meet up freely wherever there is a till.

So far, the teams with the longer break in between their league games and CL games have all won. Thus the rest they were able to have seems to pay off a lot more than the other teams seemingly being more in rhythm.

Interesting isn’t it, maybe theirs an argument for clubs not to bother with preseason?

I wouldn‘t go to those extremes, but certainly stretching schedules and allowing for enough rest should be considered more.

You were absolutely entitled to think that so try to relax a bit. I just don't like when people state predictions as facts and it happens way too often.

Dembele maybe clips Laporte's foot while they're running. Unclear if he does, or whether the contact threw off Laporte's balance, or if Laporte felt the contact and threw himself to the ground, whatever

It probably should have been a foul if there was contact but i guess they didn't have a definite image to make a decision either way

Ah, so it's ok for Lyon to be lucky, but not Juve.
I get your chain of thought now.
Juve luck bad, Lyon luck ok.
As you were

I was as sure of City winning the CL as I was of Liverpool winning the title. Am glad I'm not a betting man!

The more I think of how lucky Lyon were, the more it sinks in the injustice done to Poor Old Pep's Manchester Cheaty. They were particularly lucky not to go on the field completely lacking (!) an
arrogant and superior attitude; they were lucky how hard they worked, and just rotten lucky to have a better tactical plan that POP. Jammy bastards! Surely their expensive lawyers can put an injunction on the result ... plenty of time for a replay, or better still just tweak the result slightly.

Bet UEFA are grinning from ear to ear watching the City fallout.

good to see he’s not bitter against the club after his spell here. Shows that he takes ownership of his performances here which means he’s got some maturity. I think he’s actually a United fan, he’s posted photos of himself in retro Beckham & Cantona shirts in the past, and has actively supported us on Twitter too.

He’s openly said he doesn’t blame anyone for his time at United because he didn’t perform and wasn’t mature enough. Also said that he was here now with this manager and these youngsters he would give it his all. He seems to have matured quite a bit after leaving

Generally, coaches say preseason make players tired in the short-run but at their peak in the long-run (after 3-6 months).

That's not an excuse, Barca and Shity finished their seasons good fews ago and had nothing to play for.

There is clearly a fitness issue and it was however going random because of Covid, and different approaches country by country. Variance at its best, you know. In addition, August games awarding the biggest trophy is once in history occurrence, even World Cup ends in mid July. Problem is, next season will be a bloodbath as well, because of late start, Covid’s expected second wave and planned early finish due to Euro 2021.

They were disgraceful last night. They should be embarrassed waking up this morning with the way they went on about decisions that went against City. Fletcher is a Grade A moron.

City are pathetic trying to blame the ref right now. The contact was indeed initiated by Laporte, had Var intervened there, it would have been a disgrace!

I just don’t understand the outrage. Even Rio was dead sure it was a foul, what am I missing here?

Laporte runs into Dembele & initiates a slight tangle of legs, Laporte falls over. Does that mean if Dembele fell over it would be a foul on him? What is their logic here?

It was a foul based on the replay. H clipped Laporte so therefore Laporte lost his balance and fall on the ground
