Champions League - Group Stage R5 - Tues 21st & Wed 22nd November

PSG, Neymar and Mbappe only look good because they're playing against crap french teams right?

They'll be incredible for many years

PSG prove that spending shit loads of money can actually make a great team. You just need to actually spend it on great players, and not shit like Darmian and Mkhitaryan.

No idea how we won this, but 3 points are 3 points. Heynckes' winning streak continues!

So, now we're judging Valverde for not being greedy vs Juventus in their stadium a couple days before we face the 2nd in the table this week?

Glad to see we're using rational standards.

No, we're judging Valverde also based on chances created, and his team, I must say, doesn't create much. Not just today, but in general.

Valverde is turning Barca into a more cynical, less romantic team. Not pretty, but can be very effective. Curious to see what benefits will this tactic bring in CL against teams with much more firepower than this slightly washed up Juve.

A more negative, less risky possession game with less progression, but more control in the sense that the defense seems to be better prepared to deal with attacks.

18 games, 5 goals conceded since the supercup. Unbelievable record

We are through. We can lose 100-0, Basel still cannot finish above us due to head to head.

Wrong. CSKA would beat us head to head, while Basel have already beaten CSKA head to head. So, with 3 teams on equal points, even after erasing the results against Benfica, goal difference would then be needed.

we'd be eliminated by CSKA assuming they have to score 4 goals to win the head to head to finish in 2nd if Basel beat Benfica. Otherwise, if Benfica beat Basel and CSKW win games, Basel will quality through next round of 16 and us win the groups.

Any United fan that wants Tierney needs their heads checked.

So our head to head with Basel counts for nothing?

So our head to head with Basel counts for nothing?

Well, if Basel win against Benfica, making all three teams finish level on points, the results against Benfica are erased. Since all 3 are still on 6 points, goal difference counts.

(Remember, each of the three teams would then have won one battle head to head, CSKA vs Utd, Basel vs CSKA and Utd vs Basel, so that wouldn't come into play.)

Am I alone in wanting all English clubs to do well in the Champions League? As a Liverpool fan obviously I want them to do well and win the thing, but I also will be cheering on all English teams including Utd until the point where we might get drawn against on of them. That and if Utd were to get to the final, then I can't support as that's the only record we still have.
maybe not alone but certainly in the minority.
There were certainly more than a few oppo supporters chuckling when Seville got their 3rd last night

Even if we lose and Basel win, we'd all have 12 points?

Ohh I realized now, we beat Basel on the head to head, Basel beat CSKA on the head to head and if CSKA beat us by 4 goals to win the head to head. Any team will go through goal difference

United need to lose by 7 and Basel need to win for United to get knocked out. Lose by 5/6 or by 7+ and Basel don't win to finish second, lose by 4 or better and United top the group.
