Champions League — quarter-finals and semi-finals draw

It wasnt offside...

They allowed the play develop for the Real second goal. Don't see why they wouldn't follow the same protocol for this as well. Bayern might not have scored anyway, but we've seen countless times delayed whistles so it could be reverted to VAR, but that's never going to happen in the last minute of a CL semi final in Madrid with them one goal ahead.

I thought rudiger was offside on Madrid's second but no one has mentioned it, was he onside?

Strange tournament this year. Dortmund is most definitely not one of the two best teams in the cup and were very lucky in the second leg against PSG. But PSG didn't really deserve to go that far either and can thank Araujo for that incredibly stupid red card. Same goes for the other side of the draw. Real was the worse team against City, they made it past Leipzig thanks to a clear refereeing mistake and Bayern is also very underwhelming by their own standards this season. Some of the names in their starting eleven really shouldn't be starting a UCL semifinal (yet). They looked a bit like Madrid looked against City. On the other hand, they were better against Arsenal who seem to be roughly in the same tier as City.

Of the teams you referred to, I would rank them this way

City >>Madrid>>>>>Bayern>> Arsenal >>Barcelona >>PSG >>Leipzig>> Dortmund

Not so sure about Bayern > Arsenal > Barca. It's close but I think Barca is actually the best out of the three and not as far behind Real Madrid as the league table suggests. They are a good team and have great individuals as well.

I was very put-off by Tuchel substitutions and then Neuer mistake happened, just closed the tv. Anyway, we played like a small team the whole game. Grats to Real

We need to applaud the away goal rule that was changed, this is the first UCL in years were I was watching with more attention the games, especially the knockout phase, very entertaining stuff.

Absolutely, I hated that rule for years

The amount of goalkeeping errors that Real Madrid have gone through from over the years is insane.

Donnarumma, Ulreich, Karius, now Neuer. Maybe a few more. Didn’t think Ederson was great for the first goal of that City comeback, without it being a howler.

Exactly, I was talking about that with my brothers and some friends, it's incredible...the thing is that they are always THERE to take adavantage of it, while the great majority of other teams not, but still...incredible

Offside or no, De Ligt would probably not have scored if Madrid wouldn't have stopped playing.

Madrid's luck just never stops though. Has Neuer ever done that at such a moment

Neuer has talked about some sort of molehill on the Bernabeu grass to explain why he could not catch the ball.

Shall we believe it or it is just an excuse?

Personally, I believe him. In my experience Germans always say the truth.

You might say he's making a mountain out of a molehill.

If Don Carlo wins this year, it will be his 5th CL title. Leaving Real out of equation, Milan is on 7 trophies, Bayern and Pool on 6, Barcelona on 5. So he would match Barca's 120 years tally
If we count "UEFA Champions League" only, so since the revamp, new rules and new name in 92/93, Ancelotti is already more successful than any other team bar Madrid. He's on 4 titles at the moment, with Barca, Bayern and Milan with 3 titles.
Hey, I think what I saw was referring to the 2 he won as a player, too.

Winning this one would give him 7 total as a player + manager, so he'd be equal to Milan.

They were creating chances as well and looking dangerous on the counter. They’d literally just had 2 good chances with 2 overloads

crazy to shut up that early. But also taking Kane off in the likely event (at the time) that they would need another goal

poor management

Exactly. I can understand taking off Sane and maybe even Musiala who looked tired but taking Kane off was madness. Tuchel messed that up

Kane asked to be subbed off due to problems with his back. Tuchel was forced to sub off all of his attackers and had no real replacement for them, instead some (Sane, Musiala) had to start despite being not fully fit.

Ah okay, thanks for the context. I haven't read that.

The Bayern chance (and Dortmund reaching the final) controversy reminded me of this old Bernabeu classic from 2002/03 second group stage, second game, when Madrid played a 2-2 draw against Lokomotiv Moscow. two minutes into injury-time, Loko successfully launch a quick counterattack from their own box, but just as the last defender is dribbled past, with cover too far away to avoid a one on one, the ref blows the whistle. Looking at how that group played out, if that chance had been finished it could have changed the outcome of the group as Dortmund ended up only one point behind, with equal goal difference. All other results staying the same, Real would have won the tie-breaker anyway and scraped through, but obviously a 3-2 loss would have changed the dynamic of the group.

About five minutes in..
