Chain Draft (Main Thread)

Time permitting, I am starting the 40s one after this is over. We need a break from the controversy creating rules and formats and a simple old fashioned straight forward draft.

Personally I wouldn't mind a less research intensive draft after the rather heavy one - all things considered - we've had in this one. A fun sheep draft would be perfect (so long as the evil duo @Skizzo @Balu aren't running it - if not then god help us all).

Sheep Drafts are fun, of course, but with a decent sized pool it would require more time and research never mind the inevitable drama that comes with it. Have a look at the previous eras draft, they don't require much research. Th best thing about them is you have players who all played around the same time so there's no old vs new or anything, and it's pretty easy to evaluate games.
The point is simply to have a more relaxed draft and it has to be the original format. It's a shame that these games are the cause of grudges between posters around here when all they were meant for was a bit of fun along with knowing and discussing about few known and lesser known players.

Count me in, I'm relatively free and want to play

I've just ignored the drama, to me it's been an excellent draft with a theme that should be used again. Yes, it's research intensive but if you do your homework you get rewarded with this satisfying feeling.. It feels like what i imagine litterbug felt like when they fixed his flat tyre in the middle of the night or whatever happened there.

If you go for it we really need to trial a new scoring method and potentially a way to improve the lot of goalkeepers.

I don't think the format has anything to do with the 'grudges'. Though perhaps researching so hard makes you feel worse after losing.

Fair enough, count me in too.

I'm definitely in for that :) I need to brush up my knowledge on some older players and it would give me a reason to do some proper research

I wouldn't mind doing another one. .. more casual :) @Balu really made me do some horrible things that time

I don't mind giving the new scoring format a go.

I reckon the easiest way to begin with would be

1-0
2-0
2-1
3-0
3-1
3-2

For both sides.

And then a DRAW (managers need to change something)

This way there's just one option to pick. I would like to have 4-0 etc option but to begin keeping it to 3 would be easier with this layout.

Then just multiple the score lines by how many voted then take the average e.g. Anto 2.67 - BerbaSloth 2.53. This rounded would be 3-3 but we can say if played 100 games Anto would win 14 more games (or something like that).

I'd probably like to round to 3-3 and then penalties but we'd need to change how keepers work. So probably best just to trial one thing.

Yeah I was thinking on those lines as well. I would have put '3-0 or bigger' just to make it open ended. The rest of the options are same as yours.

And then perhaps just add all the scorelines and then factor the total for it to look realistic.

How does the number of goals matter here?

Player A gets 5 votes for 1-0 victory
Player B gets 5 votes for 2-1 victory

How would the end result look like?

Yeah the number of goals shouldn't affect the result. AFAIC it is about getting a more 'realistic' result that represents the game better than say a 20-5 in a match where one team clearly edged the other but not by much e.g. Stob getting thrashed recently.

So in your case the game will go to penos.

Let's take another example.

A gets 10 votes for 1-0, 3 for 2-0 and 1 for 3-0 and above.
B gets 4 votes for 1-0, 1 for 2-0 and none for 3-0 and above.

A wins, but not by a 14-5 margin, which would have been a case usually, but the result is now a 1-0 win for A which was the most popular result.

So in effect, it still is the votes and not the goal count that counts for a win?

To make it simpler, if Player A gets 5 votes for 2-0 and Player B gets 6 votes for 1-0, it's Player B who will win, right?

I was thinking different to Aldo.

The way I was thinking was like this:

Player A gets 5 votes for 1-0 victory
Player B gets 5 votes for 3-1 victory

A has 5x1 and a 5x1 so 10 overall so on average score 1.

B has 5x0 and 5x3 so 15 goals overall so on average 1.5

Therefore B wins. Even though it effectively gives the poster who picks a bigger win more votes I think with enough sensible voters it could work. It allows voters to show how close they think it is in a real way.

Punishes teams who have a good defense(bad attack) more than vice versa.

That's the key. Even 1 vote the other way could swing a low voter turnout match quite drastically. And as MJJ said, this would not be representative of defensive strategy if we give more importance to goals scored.

Its interesting to see what's the link to Lizarazu @MJJ . I can't figure out a link with your current players. It can't be Lahm cause Lizarazu has played with Kahn.
