The one thing I've noted from researching a few of the players I know little about is just how many Italian defenders are considered "one of the greatest Italian defenders of all time".

That's the beauty. You could choose two all-time Italian XIs and both defences would shit on any other country's. Slight exaggeration because the Germans would be right up there too, but the quality of players who'd be left out would be frightening.

Yeah - the Champions League and 38-game national league expectations put about half the potential pool at a big disadvantage.

Yeah, I think our first choice back four would be on on par with everything the Italians can come up with. You can't really improve on 'our best back four full of unpicked players'. But our 2nd choice is already way below that, while you can arguably build 3 all time great Italian defenses.

Indeed. Seems poorly defined at best.

At worst it seems downright illogical.

I've never understood this, to be honest. You can easily enough define which is which in a manner that leaves little room for doubt in the OP/rules. Which is what you should do.

Shoddy, for my money.

O3 - Club link can be established only if both players have played together for the same club in a given season. Seasons need to have a minimum 15 matches by each player (mail league or champions league only(No cups). For NT card, it should be at least 1 match in any international tournament (i.e. no friendlies).

Ambiguous. Not to say shabby, actually. Especially given the "mail league" criterion. I mean, I love the mail league - but c'mon.

I don't get why you excluded UEFA Cup/Cup winner's cup/domestic cups and all the Southamerican continental tournaments though? What's the reasoning behind this? Those are all proper official tournaments. It's a bit silly that Serie A players from the 80's who didn't play in the European Cup have to play in 50% of their 30 league games to count. Today you have 38 league games and four clubs with additional 8-13 CL games every year in all the top leagues. That's so much more. It makes no sense to me.

I wanted it to restrict it only to main leagues, but threw in CL since it was the most popular. If you want to showcase old time legends who do not fit the criteria, maybe you need to wait for a more suitable draft.
