Casemiro | United Player

different play styles and Chelsea didn't pay anywhere near a crazy transfer fee or wages.

True, but as long as casemiro does a job for us, which I think he will as he's a top player, does it really matter what we pay for him or what his wages will be?

I don't understand how we've gone from showing no desire to play with a legit DM through all of preseason and the first two fixtures to being in a panic and spending big money to go and get one.
Because we're a shambles.

Casemiro, Fred, Eriksen is an interesting midfield - for about 18 months. Then all 3 are over 30 and we’ll be in this exact spot all over again. We need to invest in players that are 23-27 now so that next summer when we’re fixing the other gaping holes we still have, we aren’t plugging the same hole all over again.

That said, we are where we are. He’s a good player and we don’t have any of those. I’m just so pissed at the lack of long term planning.
Isn’t the whole point that in those intervening years you actually sort out midfield with the replacements and use the wise old heads to ease through the transition?

We have short, medium and long term issues to fix.

I've not really seen much of him playing but regarding the comparison with the Matic signing, surely he's not that immobile? Matic couldn't outrun me when we signed him.

Desperation i guess. If we really wanted Casemiro we’d have tried this weeks ago.

Years? How can you say years? It became real in the final year and tbh he's a bag of shit anyway

We employ players currently a million times worse. And yes the club literally had years to make a plan for our Midfield. And they never did

Ten hag saw 1 game of McTominay/Fred under actual pressure instead of pre season or training and decided he misjudged them probably. Its fair. You always wonder as a coach if you can make some players work. I'm sure they impressed and looked different in training too. Come actual games, they shit their pants.

@mazhar13 can back me up Arancha is VERY reliable

Yeah, he is incredibly reliable. I'd like to know how MadridXtra got in touch with him as I wasn't expecting that, but if the info's coming from Arancha, then, yeah, that's a major development.

I really hope that he actually said that.

Agent: How much are you offering?

Murtough: A lot. LIke, a LOT. Loads.

Murtough: I'm talkin' G5 Casemiro. No more frequent flyer bitch miles for my boi!

Casemiro: You want me to leave the best team in the world, with a perfect climate, where I am a legend, where I have won many CL's... for a G5?

Murtough: Yes

Casemiro: A G5 airplane?

Murtough: Yes. And LOTS of money.

Is this happening? If so, rather this guy and SMS than Caicedo. Give Caicedo couple of years to prove himself and go after him when Casemiro slows down. Even after 2 years Brighton will sell him for the same price which they are going to inevitably demand now. Only Caicedo will be more proven by then and the spent can be a bit more justified.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about United trying to get Casemiro, am I in the wrong topic?

Feel free to believe that you're going to get De Jong on top of Casemiro, I'm not convinced.

What I'm saying, and I consider my post very much on topic, is that Casemiro is the best in class with Kroos and Modric and that he looks far less dominant when they're not around, as demonstrated by his somewhat average performances with his NT.
Point is, it may not be FDJ but we are getting a midfielder too. You can mark my post on that.

5 year contract for a 30 year old on 400k a week  what could go wrong!

It’s not ironic: Fred in his element chasing and harassing and not worrying what’s behind him; Casemiro cleans up loose balls, holds position and recycles constantly. They’re a logical and organic partnership. Just need a proper user of the ball amidst them and you’ve got at least an above average midfield. I can’t understand how people wouldn’t want him here.
Adding Eriksen will bring the creative spark, I think it's a very balanced midfield.

People who are against the signing clearly haven't been watching him play. Yes, in the last 2 seasons he hasn't always been at his best but once it's a big game, he has always been one of the best players on the pitch. We saw it in the UCL final against Liverpool, we saw it vs City and Chelsea. He was wonderful against PSG. He's the only midfielder tasked with helping the defense and he excels in it despite the lack of help from Kroos and Modric.

He would be a mega signing. He still got 3-4 years left at this level.

Yes United are trying to get Casemiro a World class DM. They will play him as a DM. Absolutely no idea why you started going on about him being no good at building attacks because that’s not what we are buying him for.

This isn’t the alternative to De Jong. The club has indicated that and they are different players.

That would make sense had United not recruited Ten Hag as coach, who plays transition football and doesn't need at all this kind of DM who's used to pretty slow paced games.

Is Casemiro an upgrade for United's midfielfd? Definitely. Is he the kind of player United should push for with a huge salary and a significant transfer fee? Definitely not.

This afternoon on @deportescope we explained that Real Madrid do not want to sell Casemiro, but the ball is in the player's court.
United's offer to Casemiro is dizzying.

Desperation is going to become the new embarrassing isn't it?

Yeah ideally, but by the time Casemiro declines I doubt we’d have plugged all the holes in the mean time - we’ve got a whole new team to buy.

Casemiro may or may not be a success but watching Liverpool's players fly with every tackle he makes would be priceless.

We could’ve easily signed 2/3 players with this £80 million weeks ago and massively upgraded the midfield prior to the season starting.

Going by how we're run, we'll buy a 30yr old FDJ for 200mil then and say we'll use the next couple yrs to plug the holes

Real Madrid has the best analyst group and sporting directors on the planet. If they're willing to sell Casemiro it's because he's regressing. Talked to a Madrid fan and he's been saying that Casemiro is a shadow of his former self for the past 2 years.

I understand the logic of thinking short term to stabilize the free fall before shifting to long term thinking. If Casemiro actually happens (don't think there's a chance but if it does), it'd be a huge bandaid to stabilize us for a while, solve a ton of our midfield problems and be able to build some confidence as a team again, Ten Hag could implement his system with a world class DM in for a couple of years, and then we can negotiate from a position of power.

Its hopeless to try and forward plan from our current position. Nobody wants to come here as a young player. See Bellingham and Haaland rejecting us. Frenkie doing everything not to join. Rabiot not even wanting to come unless it's on big wages. We are negotiating from rock bottom and sometimes you just gotta pay up for an immediate solution to the biggest problem in the team. Stabilize us. Fix our reputation which is also rock bottom at the moment. And then show us to be an attractive team to join again.

2 games in isn't a major deal though, it's not great but if we get a good midfield then it'll bode well for the rest of the season. United could even finish top 6!

Point is, it may not be FDJ but we are getting a midfielder too. You can mark my post on that.

Well it will depend on who else you're signing then, because I'm pretty confidant that Casemiro alone (or with another average midfielder) won't solve a lot of issues for Ten Hag.

If you offer Insane wages like to Casemiro he would change his mind.

Casemiro is only going to United because of wages.
You don't say? I assumed it was because he grew up a united fan and used to kiss a picture of Nicky Butt every night before bed.

Again I’m not really sure you know what you’re talking about.

Like who ? Who can come in and start doing the job almost immediately? I get the 5 year concern but if he can give us solid 3 years, that should be more than enough to justify the fee.

Yeah ideally. But let’s say we sign Casemiro and then next summer we only have 6 gaping holes that need filling instead of 7. We aren’t getting 6 players. Sign someone this summer who won’t need replacing again after his upcoming hip replacement.
Even a diminished Casemiro is going to have attributes that are valuable - he doesn’t have a poor injury record to date so I don’t know why a DM of 30 years old is being written off when it’s perhaps the most amenable position on the pitch when it comes to ageing.

The problem I am having with some of these posts is that they don’t take into account we are a long way from being shot callers or being able to turn down talent in lieu of what we have here. Even poorer players like Rabiot were trying to rinse us; we’re generally scrambling around a really poor area of the market for problem players their clubs want to move on, and those players are fancying their hand at taking us for a ride. It’s par for the course for a desperate club making a show of itself on an international scale - people need to ask what the alternatives are this late in the game - a Casemiro seemingly drops out the sky and people don’t want him… after the absolute rubbish we’ve been linked to over the past two weeks? It’s not like we’ve had a stream of top players floated to us, is it?

With regard to your post, you would hope (pray) an actual plan and structure is put in place after this bonkers window closes - consider this a unique shambles that won’t be repeated (we hope) and take what we can to tide us over. I have to admit a 3 year deal would make more sense, but he and his agent would be stupid not to take the piss and make obscene demands to exploit our incompetence. It should be a lesson for the future…

So far all the briefings seem to be from Spain and if you have spent any time at all in the FDJ thread then you know not to take them too seriously. I just cannot see this one happening and unless someone like Whitwell starts reporting it is true I am going to continue to prepare for Oriol Romeu on deadline day.
