The first few pages of this thread are gold.

I also never believed in a million years he’d come here, it’s nice to be proven wrong for a change.

So was Matic ffs

And we will see one of Camavinga or the other lad whose name i can’t be arsed spelling anymore comprehensively overtake him in the coming season and most definitely over the course of Casemiros contract here while we are stuck with a player on the same wages as both of Madrids improving players. We are just a final destination for players at clubs who’ve hit their ceiling wage wise and their current club don’t wish to invest further for a player about to lose peak fitness and drive. Our scouts and owners are absolutely brutal. This is exactly how you spend 1 billion quid and have the highest wage bill and get Jack shit for your money over 5 years but fans still get excited about it. Over and over.

The real problem here is while we clog up the squad with expensive duds and keep giving them contracts to protect their value and continue to fail, the best up and coming players won’t want to come here and the cycle continues

The fact you’re suggesting Casemiro should be playing in the MLS says enough mate :wenger:

At this point I’m all for this signing. But as others have already suggested, we should really be getting the Camavinga’s and Tchouameni’s in early and negotiating through the season to ensure a quick resolution come summer. I can’t understand why that’s so difficult. Effectively working 12 months in advance of ourselves. Even if it’s all agreed and loan backs for a season.

we’ll likely down tools when the transfer window shuts and think we’ve done our job until late august nxt year...when the scramble begins again. It’s tiresome

We never gonna learn sadly, so dumb if this goes through. How people aint tired of doing same shtick every year, world class this, world class that, transfer window saved etc. Hope he has higher nature resistance because others went to shit after few months of rot setting in.

Ffs give it a rest.

Why did RM already sign his replacement, before he’d even left?
Because it's clear that Touchauameni is a top talent and was going to go to a big club this summer? They didn't want to miss out on him and were probably forced to sign him a year or two prematurely. Ancelotti's salty comment earlier suggests he'd probably have liked to keep him.

Time will tell if it's a good signing or he's worth the outlay, but given our position and predicament, he's got to be one of the best acquisitions we could make, in the short term at least.

People forget under Fergie we constantly signed young talent in positions where we had world class players. It’s called competition, and there were plenty of occasions where the older player would keep their spot.

His last year's numbers:

This is proof we still need to sign that player who can retain and progress the ball alongside him

Anyone know what kind of attitude Casemiro has? Someone who can kick our prima donnas up their asses and drag them along or someone likely to get influenced by the whining folks (mainly in attack) and lose all motivation?
Really excited about the signing but I've been this way before only to be let down in a few months:nervous:

Im not saying he currently should be but I’m implying that those are the kind of targets we’ve been been repeatedly moving for. Players who are just over or well past their peak. Majorly expensive players that take no scouting whatsoever. This lad clearly is a panic buy too. This club will be the death of me. As I said when we signed Ronadlo if he galvanises the club and does well there’ll be no happier fan but I could see the pitfalls a mile off, unlike most on here and we are clearly seeing the consequences of that now. Same with Varane. He’s been really poor for the outlay Excuse me for not getting excited about this. Player forced out and happy to come and take more money than when he was in his prime. These guys are seen as expendable squad players by the end at the kind of club we need to surpass if we want to catch up but we happily just play the fame game. Gotta get those social media hits.

Mitten says that Ancelotti sees him as a manager, he's football obsessed, leaves his vacation early to join back with the squad if they need him, studies and analyses his own performances every game, is a tactics nerd etc.

A lot of what I've seen from him reminds me of a Roy Keane type. Not as good on the ball as Keane, probably better defensively, but overall just a modern day specialized version? Probably less of a dick, but yeah. On the pitch he's a beast and a fighter and won't give up.

despite his age, this is really a massive signing and there really can't be any complaints as he plugs arguably the biggest hole we had going into this season....he does a job we don't currently have and that's someone to protect the space in front of the two CB's and his ability to progress the ball from the DCM position is very very good.

ffs...now can we just find him a decent partner??? honestly with his experience i'd be really interested to see Garner or Zidane get a chance to play alongside him

Very professional, apparently.

Exactly. When you're on top, you buy top young players and develop them. Just look at Liverpool and how they sign the likes of Elliott and Carvalho. It's just forward thinking, something our fans clearly aren't used to

I first really took notice of him in Real Madrid’s 13/14 pre-season tour in Ancelotti’s first spell where he was excellent throughout. He was probably their best or 2nd best player for the entire pre-season. He didn’t catch my attention for just his defensive skills but he was actually really good on the ball too and made one nice assist to Ronaldo.

I was subsequently surprised that he hardly featured that season and Madrid even signed someone around a similar age in his role that clearly wasn’t as good (Illaramendi). I was even more surprised when they loaned him out in 14/15 even after losing Alonso.

He would’ve been pretty vital for them that year after the injury to Modric that (imo) caused them to miss out on big trophies.

In the end he came back from his loan anyway and became a legend of the club.

But the talent was clearly always there from the beginning.

Steel in the midfield!!!!

Hope he can get away with bookings like his fellow midfield Brazilians have managed in the past few years.

I predict he'll be getting captain shouts after a month.

Wouldn't be surprised if he'll be made captain within 3 months tbh.
