Casemiro | United Player

He could be our cornerstone in midfield for the next 3-4 seasons easily. It's well known he won't be our main distributor, but he's fine on the ball and has no weakness in his game. Added to his experience and mentality he could be a massive player for us, even if slightly overpaid.

Considering we only started to search players in his mould in the last two weeks or so and we're clearly in the desperation phase, getting one of the best out there is massive for us. I agree with some posters on us being a mess, clearly our first plans went out the window already, but this is a very good addition for us in a zone we've been bleeding for ages.

How would you prioritise those?

I think in this window a starting XI RB would be top for me. We absolutely need to get another body in attack also in this window but I’m not sure the budget will stretch to get someone in who is a significant upgrade on what we have in our starting team. Same with the GK position. The other CM can maybe wait until next summer.

But you accept that the is also making a deal with the devil?

One thing that we need to keep in mind is that United never had a divine right to impose its wishes? At the time SAF earned that privilege by being successful, no one else was in a similar situation everyone else at the exception of maybe Real Madrid(who offered Casemiro a contract that we likely wouldn't have) had to compromise and make deals that weren't ideal, that's Football for 99.9% of clubs. It will likely upset some but United isn't special, SAF was, now we have to operate like everyone else.

I accept it, yes, because of exactly what you said. I'm only nitpicking. I do prefer that we could dictate terms and club policy rather than have the terms dictated to us by agents and players, but that's clearly not the case where we are as a football club now.

I think Casemiro is a class addition and I welcome this signing in general.

why does he say that we're not getting the player we think we're getting?
He is not de Jong. Not a player to take the first ball out of defence and break the lines through driving running and therefore, not, on its face, a signing that translates as exactly what ETH would have wanted.

m still head and shoulders above anything we have had in the last couple of years though so I’ll take it!

If rumours are true (if he signs) that we're paying €70m, giving him a 4+1 contract and putting him on a very high wage for a 30 year old player accustomed to playing at a far different pace to the PL and with far better players then we just haven't learned a thing on our past mistakes.

It took Rodri a year to become accustomed to the pace and he's a lot younger. Saul was also putting up fantastic numbers at Atlético but was a total failure at Chelsea even if his minutes where limited. Is Casemiro better than what we have? Of course he is and if it was the Casemiro of 5 years ago then I'd be all over the transfer but I don't think in todays market its worth forking out so much on a player coming from a very successful club into a shit storm where its going to be very hard for him to find motivation other than his paycheck. A big no from me.
Firstly, don't believe all the rumours.

Secondly, how can you compare Casemiro with Saul? There was a reason he was let go by Atletico and was obvious he wasn't going to do much at Chelsea. You haven't got a clue if you think Casemiro is the type of player to just sit back and take his salary.

why does he say that we're not getting the player we think we're getting?
It's a complete contradiction. He's essentially saying he won't be good for us, perhaps passed it, yet saying it's a massive loss to la Liga and Madrid. The two don't make sense, it's just waffle for clicks and likes.

nonsense, you go after several options knowing probably only one of three will work out. If you put all your eggs in one basket and that fails you have no where to go. I suspect once United realised that Casamiro was likely they dropped Rabiot as the Casamiro was the preferred signing.
Nah. If we go first after Casemiro weeks ago instead of f*cking around with Rabiot's mom, Cas could be training with our first team this week.

You go after priorities first and Rabiot doesn't remotely look like one. I presume he was cheap, therefore he picked up big interest from Murt.

Good signing, brings instant steel to a flaky midfield,. Probably a bit pricey but we paid 130 million for Maguire and AWB so in context it’s a great price.

Need to get ball playing mids around him but he is exactly what we’ve been crying out for.

Hope he can start Monday

Really happy with this signing. Top player in a position of need. 30 is the new 27 these days too.

Glazers Out.

He can't

Seriously though, what happened to the days where we only offered 1-year rolling contracts to players above 30? I preferred it that way.

I mean, we'll never sign Casemiro on a 1 year contract for sure, but 5 years is way too much.
Lucky it isn't 5 then.

Of course it was better when we were in control of our market, but we need to earn that privilege back. Until then we will have to operate like everyone else and try to be a bit more efficient. :D

By higher up does he mean in the stands?

:D

Because for the love of feck, we NEED to replace Fred/McT with better players. Casemiro is a start. But hopefully we get FDJ.

I mean yes, obviously I also prefer and hope we get FDJ.

A midfield-three of Casemiro + Eriksen + FDJ would be excellent. But it seems unlikely we'll get FDJ. In that case Casemiro + Eriksen + Fred would be a really good midfield.

The only signing in a while I’ve been certain of being a success

A DM of his quality is welcome. I suppose those there are questions regarding shades of Matic especially when age, pace, wages and length of contract is taking into account.

having said that absolutely right to note on the flip side that “older” aged signings in key positions like CB etc by other teams who have been transformative.

So this is actually happening, then.

Pretty shocked, to be honest. He's probably the best DM in the world (or at least, close to it).
