Holy shit, how did we sign him so easily is beyond me. Amazing player who gives his all in every game, a real winner who will hopefully show some of our other players what it means to have a winning mentality.

He does everything, literally everyting. Opposing player running towards our goal, he makes a perfect tackle. Blocks shots, cuts passes, makes headers, makes good passes, shoots.

What a player.

Carrick is/was never anywhere near Casemiro. Time has done Carrick massive favours as has timing. Playing in a successful side. He was a good player. Not really more than that. Casemiro is truly world class and the best CM we’ve had since Keane. If you think he’d struggle to get into the England side ahead of Gareth Barry then I don’t know what to say.

How much do we want to disrespect a proper world class player by comparing him with a good player who often went missing in big games and crumbled under pressure
Do you make this kind of statements just so people can quoute you in masse?

Best DM in the league. Can't believe McT was keeping him out of the team at one point.

I think ETH was letting him settle, I said in this thread he will be the starter by October and he was.

Sometimes you don't have to immediately chuck in a player if you don't have to

Pure quality yesterday. He just breaks down oppo teams. A joy to watch

Two reminders

1) He's played just 8 league games for us after a slow start where he wasnt starting for a while because McTom was. Despite that he looked like the main man in the team yesterday and like he'd been at the club 5 years

2) We havent had a player of his type, someone who you could genuinely pick and sit in a DM position and know that he's going to be at his best since Carrick. And most importantly since Carrick at his best so around 14/15 . I was a fan of Ander but he wasnt picked and proven in a genuine DM role very often. He did his tough tackling from a CM role, which Casemiro can do but we also know that he can just sit in front of the defence if needed.

He only came in because McTom's form dropped. Its not like we were top of the league and didnt need to be playing better. So that just sounds like excuses

It's not, I think we genuinely had a player playing ok in that position, Casemiro didn't need to be thrown in immediately.

If you have a player in that position playing well you don't need to just take them out the team, it gives Casemiro the time to feel his way into the EPL with less pressure.

Flip side to Antony, we really didn't have a right winger so he was thrown straight in.

SAF didn't always throw a player in unless he needed to, he'd usually bench them and bring them in the last 20 minutes if it was a winning side, they wouldn't immediately always be a starter unless they had a preseason with us.

EtH said he needed time to adjust to a new system - McTominay playing well helped ease him in, but he was always going to take the spot.

He's so good!

Looking at transfers, we now have two 30 year olds who have shown immediate impact. Casemiro required two-three games before he was the best or joint best CDM in the league (Rodri?). Eriksen has been great pretty much throughout. Now, look at younger players and how much more time they need to bed in and how much their performances fluctuate. There's a reason why a manager like Mourinho preferred late 20s early 30s players. They are more dependable and will provide more stable performances during the course of a season.

People feared he would be washed up by the age of 30, but he's in his physical prime, and couple that with his winning mentality and experience, and we have ourselves a world class player. I loved Carrick as a player, but Casemiro seems to have pretty much all of Carrick's abilities (Carrick was arguably a slightly better passer), but he also has that combative streak that really sets him apart. He reads the game so well, like a Carrick, but then he can also take on the biggest thugs and come out on top, more like a Keane. Yesterday, he also looked faster than I thought he was. He also covers so much ground it is unbelieavable. I know he's arguably the best CDM in the world, but he also plays like a box to box player in that same role when the game permits. Incredible performance yesterday.

He is a brilliant player and at the top of his game. I hope he can maintain it for two to three seasons before possibly transitioning to a centre half where he also looks very comfortable. I just have slight fears having seen how Matic was brilliant for his first season and a half before his legs went, hopefully that doesn't happen to Casemiro who is clearly a grade above Matic.
As for this season lets just enjoy a top class player in his pomp.

Casemiro was a bit out of shape and his first matches were not good at all. At the same time McT played well and ETH claimed he wanted to reward that. However anybody who has seen Casemiro before knew that if he just got a few games, he would become our best midfielder even at 70% of his capacity. Then of course you could always speculate…, this was not an ETH signing so maybe he was trying to make a point, that we didn’t need him. All “his” signings walked straight in and have never had to fight for their spots, but the undisputedly best signing, both on paper and in reality, was always Casemiro and he had to work for it.

Mctom was playing fine. For a top 5 team.

Casemiro is probably the best player of his type in the world.

Casemiro played every week for madrid while they won champions leagues. He was the last player in the world to need to be shielded from pressure.

By far the best DM in the prem right now. I remember when everyone was comparing Fabinho and rodri. This guys took over. Defo should be in team of season at end of the season.

Not sure what your point is? A poster asked if Casemiro was possibly better than Carrick. That post should be quoted en masse.

It was about sending a message to the squad which was more important than results in the early stages. If you perform, you will play. No matter who is on the bench. There were a lot of mind games that Ten Hag had to play early on with the squad to get them believing in him and that was 100% one of them, and he was right to do so.

He is imperious. When I thought Brazil was going to win the World Cup, it wasn’t because of the attacking options everyone was talking about… it was because I didn’t see a team breaking down that defense.

He deserves whatever accolades get thrown his way

Fullbacks sucked. I thought Thiago Silva might look old, but he was good. Also Raphinha wasn't very good when it mattered.

Performing to the standard of a top 5 team not a title contender. McTom isnt capable of that, Casemiro is.

Have been a while since we’ve had a CDM this good. Probably one of the best in the world right now.

I have no idea why he came to us in his prime but thank the fecking Lord he did because he’s a top, top player.

Sure but dropping McTominay right away after he was giving very good performances just because the new signing came in just wouldn't send the right message for me. If ten hag was there for a while, different story. It was the first month, and McTomonay had stepped up big time vs Liverpool when the squad had been struggling before that. So he stayed in, and it was fair. Everyone knew Casemiro would get in eventually, it was just a case of giving McTominay a little run to send a message to everyone that if you give your all and play well (whatever standard it is, McTominay was doing well and we were winning and playing well), then there is no reason to drop you. It creates good competition and everyone feels they have a fair shot.

Managing a squad is more than just picking the best player every game and replacing the lesser players first chance you get. You need those guys to make up the squad, so this told them that they were important too.

Isn’t it mad how a world class DM instantly makes you look a lot better. This is what we’ve been missing. Obviously getting proper coaching will help aswell but a DM makes the team tick.

The narrative on here was that Madrid sold us damaged goods. I am so happy that Casemiro has blown that ridiculous theory out of the water. He stated many times himself he was looking for a new challenge. Still can’t believe we have him and Varane in this team. I think we can manage a top 3 finish if both can stay healthy.

Considering how much I dislike Madrid they really have done us a solid with Varane and Casemiro, cheeky bid for Benzema next?

The problem is the assumption that Casemiro wouldnt play just as well and therefore deserve to play based on playing well, or that he couldnt play alongside McTominnay who has been used further forward as an attacking threat.

He's 8 league games deep and arguably our best player.

He's been absolutely sensational. The way he flew into tackles yesterday, sprinted until the last second and his passing were top notch. Can't believe we actually got that guy.

Can you imagine how ridiculously perfect he would've been in our setup?

We sure love our ancient strikers and maybe he misses his good pals Rapha and Cas?:p

No, not really. We're probably moving away from old strikers and he loves RM and is captain there now.

Tell you what about his passing, I was checking out some of his Porto highlights yesterday to see if that was always a part of his game that didn't draw as much attention, and what stood out with how erratic he was with passing.

Even in his 'best compilation' the passing was so erratic and not as crisp, and would have had us all saying he "isn't good enough on the ball", sort of like Ndidi or to a lesser extent Declan Rice.

He must have improved massively on that while at Madrid though, which is impressive given that most players don't really pick up new skills overtime instead choosing to just get better at what they are already good at, which for him was always nipping the ball and blocking passing lane.

One last thing, he has a deadly shooting range which we've seen sometimes, but not enough of yet. He also does that little backlift shot that David Luis and Drogba were known for. Might be useful on long-range freekicks at some point.
