Guys won 5 champions leagues and you‘re contemplating if he‘s better than Carrick .

Of course his standing in the game is much higher and he has been a better player than Carrick. What I meant was his actual performances are the best we have seen at Utd since Carrick in that role and at 31 probably still better than prime Carrick. We have had names, Schweinsteiger, Pogba, Matic with reputations that would suggest they would actually be effective (and better than Carrick), but unfortunately they weren't. Cas is not resting on laurels, he is proving his reputation.

He's the best midfielder in the world. This is a hill I will die on.

Fair do’s i take it back.

I don't tend to watch football when it's not United that often so I always thought he was like a Makelele from what little bits I did see which wasn't necessarily a bad thing but he is so much more than that role just an outrageous footballer one of the all timers without doubt in his position

He the best in the world at the role he plays in the middle.

One of the best ever to do it.

Souness steady Eddie comments get more ridiculous by the day, especially when Casmerio is a better player and maybe more decorated in the game than what greame was.

If we can keep him and Varane fit, there is no reason I can think of that we cannot get top 4. He is a cut above the dross (sorry McFred) we’ve had in midfield in recent years.

Great thing is too, with his style of play I reckon we’ll get another 4 or so top years out of him.

His reading of the game is beautiful. But the way he was zipping the ball was fantastic too.

And I really wish that chip has gone in
People see him as a holding midfielder / DM but he just reminds me of a proper box to box player (like keane) from the 90s.

Carrick is/was never anywhere near Casemiro. Time has done Carrick massive favours as has timing. Playing in a successful side. He was a good player. Not really more than that. Casemiro is truly world class and the best CM we’ve had since Keane. If you think he’d struggle to get into the England side ahead of Gareth Barry then I don’t know what to say.

How much do we want to disrespect a proper world class player by comparing him with a good player who often went missing in big games and crumbled under pressure

Casemiro is a fantastic players but my god you’re completely twisting things there to disparage Carrick.

Early days but looks like our best signing in years. The only other recent signing I can think of that transformed the team like this was Bruno in his first season.

I know pool fans online that were saying that Fabinho deserved to start ahead of him for the NT. I guess we can now see why he was ahead in the pecking order.

I admit that I thought Perez sold us a washed up version. Never been more proud to be proved wrong.

Carrick is a bit overrated by many United fans but he did not go missing on big occasions and he was never one to crumble under pressure. He just occasionally lacked that little bit of quality that marks a true world class midfielder. Casemiro is great but there’s no need to denigrate Carrick to make your point.

Nah, Casemiro is one of the players from the glory 16-18 madrid who never declined, In fact i thought he became better and superior to Modric and Kross between 2019-2020.

the thing for me is, he’s won so many trophies in his career, he’s extremely rich and famous, yet he’s still out there running his ass off. He’s flying into tackles and chasing people back like a man possessed just to block a cross.

His attitude and desire to not only win but keep a clean sheet is so impressive.

I thought he might come here for 1 last payday, give it a go and think nah this is not worth it. He is genuinely my favourite player now. The DM we’ve wanted and deserved for years.

You can't buy this sort of passion week in and week our no matter the opposition

This fella is unreal. I'd almost forgotten what a good midfielder looked like at Manchester United

As a United player it's still up for debate. I'll immediately point out that Casemiro is absolutely phenomenal, but you have to remember than he's our first real DM in years and Carrick is the last player we had who controlled that area of the pitch. More as an interceptor and playmaker, sure, but still the guy that you could rely on to be the midfield General just like Case.

Again, it's about what he does for United that'll determine if he's been better for us than Carrick. So far so good, hopefully he keeps this up consistently.

Baffles me, how good he is at covering the ground and sticking a foot in.

To then distribute the ball so beautifully. Top, top player.
And to think the talk when he first joined was "he's good at tackling but really shit at passing."

We've been longing for this kind of player for a very, very long time. Easily has 5 more years of top level football too, hell even more if Thiago Silva is any indication.

Almost scored a brilliant goal as well. Set up the 2nd goal with a perfect tackle, set up the 3rd goal with an interception and good pass. Add to that him always being available for the back 4 to pass two. Our playing from the back was very good today because of Casemiro (shaw’s passing is great as well). All round midfield player.

Everybody played a good game today except Antony, though he did well opening up space for Martial’s goal

Has said it before and will say it again.

Between him and De Jong he was always gonna be the more transformative player.

Has fixed a huge issue in our team. Both in terms of his ability but also because of his character.

De Jong may be more youtube-friendly, but I bet he would prove ineffective in our team if we wouldn’t also have brought in someone like Casemiro.

That said, I still think we need someone like De Jong to bring our midfield to the next level.

De Jong is a fantastic player too, basically anyone of that class was going to be transformative because they were replacing McTominay, the jump up in quality is so enormous. When people were defending him in midfield it’s like they had Stockholm Syndrome.

Such a joy to watch him defend.

According to Transfermarkt he has played 799 minutes in the premier league for us. With him on the pitch we conceded 8 goals. In the 551 minutes he hasn't been on the pitch we conceded 12. Small sample size and of course our start with ETH was terrible but it's no coincidence. The xGA numbers back it up - in the first 7 games he didn't start and our xGA value for that period was 11,05 (1,58 per game, 13th best in the league). In the 8 games he started the xGA was 6,77 (0,85 per game, joint 2nd best in the league).

He is an absolute monster. Not very fast but his reading of the game allows him to always be in the right position and his tackling ability is world class. IMO our best and most important player. He was made for the premier league. Only downside is that we only got him with 30 and he will not have too many world class years left. But he could easily have 3 more seasons on a very high level and DM was such a glaring weakness that it was definitely worth it to maybe overspend a little bit for him.

Even after I realised how much better his passing is, he still is so impressive.

He is imperious. When I thought Brazil was going to win the World Cup, it wasn’t because of the attacking options everyone was talking about… it was because I didn’t see a team breaking down that defense.

He deserves whatever accolades get thrown his way

Carrick was getting bashed week in week out back then in this forum. This was also exacerbated by 2 midfielder system that Fergie used all the time. I lurked for years before making an account so I was there. If anything, time has been very kind to him and people now look to his playing days with a rose tinted glass.
