Match thread record:

fecking international break. Always comes at the wrong time.
Vidic probably won't be ready for this, I'm guessing he got a concussion. Rafael will be back though, thankfully.

De Gea
Rafael Evans Smalling Evra
Nani Carrick Jones Januzaj
Rooney Van Persie
We've gotta keep this run of form going although away to Cardiff will be a tough game.

International friendlies are a cnut.

Competitive internationals are a cnut, too. Except the big tournaments, sometimes. And by big tournaments I mean the Euros and the World Cup, the rest are shite.

wooohooooo! Damo created matchday thread! Get IN!

Valencia's playing in Ecuador and Nani has two tough play off games so I think we'll see Young/Adnan for this one. Thankfully, Japan are playing in Belgium during the break so Kagawa should be ready.

Should be a good game this one, would have been worried about it a month ago, but i think Cardiff will begin to tail off now, and we have too much class.

0-3 United.

They seem to be very organised and a tough side to break down. For that reason I would start Januzaj + Nani or Kagawa. They're a threat from set-pieces and if they score vs us that'll be their route in my opinion. So would probably start Carrick + Fellaini/Jones. If Rafael is fit obviously start him, if not then I hope Fabio gets a go. Highly doubt it though and I don't have too much problems with Smalling starting there.

No need for Young if Kagawa is fine to play this! Kagawa on the left, Januzaj on the right will do nicely.

Will take a point to be honest. Always tricky after a break.

1-3 United

RVP x 2
Januzaj x 1

We'll have too much for Cardiff here IMO, plus the lads won't want to drop any points after building a fantastic platform with that Arsenal win. It feels great to be confident again.

No more a fan of international friendlies than anyone else, but these seem to have come at a fairly useful time in terms of injuries. Carrick has some time to get over his thing, or at least start to do so. Vidic can take the requisite time off after a concussion. Welbeck and Rafael might be back in the mix in time for this.

Carrick Cleverley
Januzaj Rooney Welbeck
Hernandez
RVP seemed to tire quickly against Arsenal (albeit playing very well throughout), and I'm a bit worried we're overusing him. Meanwhile, everyone knows that ideally we'd be giving Hernandez more game time. So there's an opportunity there. Plus his willingness to make run after run will suit Rooney and Januzaj's creativity.

We could play Kagawa again, I thought he was good against Arsenal if not world-beating. But Welbeck offers something a bit different, and a more direct approach might bear fruit against Cardiff. Plus we saw against Arsenal that Cleverley and Kagawa next to each other is potentially dangerously lightweight, whereas Welbeck offers plenty defensively.

It's a ways away obviously, so line-ups are very speculative.

Not sure if serious... but

De Gea
Rafael--Evans--Vidic--Evra
Carrick--Giggs(yes, I'm serious)
Januzaj--Rooney--Welbeck
Hernandez
Well, I want a win but I'm realistic and understand that it's a tough game. They beat City there and a result is a must for us, so a draw come May mght not be horrible.

I don't think we can afford to draw with Cardiff. We've got Spurs away after that then Everton at home. If we draw with Cardiff we'll be in big big trouble. Just my opinion. Personally think it's a must win but I would take a draw vs Spurs.

Yes games after the international break are tough.
But we're playing on Sunday afternoon and only Evra & Nani are having tough games, all of our other players are playing friendlies so hopefully most of them are playing only one half or 60 minutes.
And hopefully Vidic, Rafael and Welbeck are fit again in two weeks.

Anyway we must win at Cardiff!!!!!!!

Fecking internationals.

These ones have come at a good time in a way for us. Rafael, Welbeck, Carrick, Vidic, possibly Jones all can probably use the extra time to heal. Hopefully RVP as well considering he's been playing a bit hurt.

Nani getting good competitive minutes also should be good for us.

On the flip side "bloody internationals, just as we are building some good momentum".

I'd be very surprised if Carrick starts given that we play Leverkusen in midweek and Spurs the following sunday. "I've been carrying the injury for a few weeks now. I was a bit patched up to play. I got through it but it doesn't look good." He had a two week break between Stoke and Arsenal yet that clearly wasn't sufficient to get him fully fit.

Valencia and Jones are one yellow card away from a ban, so that's another factor that may influence team selection, as they seem to be first choice players for the big games, such as Spurs away. Educated guess says Fellaini (not available for Leverkusen midweek match) perhaps alongside Cleverley.

I imagine Januzaj will start as Moyes has been more willing to use him in this type of match. Hernandez doesn't appear to have been selected for Mexico's play-off matches against New Zealand so I suspect he's more likely to start against Cardiff than the other two games, unless there are injuries. I wonder if Moyes will risk Buttner as Evra looked exhausted towards the end of the Arsenal game, having played 3 games in 8 days.

If needed, Moyes can always throw on more and more attackers in the 2nd half, like he did against Stoke.

agree with all your points.

hope that nobody gets hurt because of the meaningless friendlies. time for some of our players to recover as well.

and to the dutch national coach please consider giving robin a bit of a rest, some playing time is fine but don't overuse him.

no messing up with the line up, this is another step towards catching the league leaders.
cannot see how jones is dropped after that performance againts arsenal though, he'll be somewhere at CB or CM i guess.

This season has already proved that it will be a low total that wins the leagues. Teams will drop points many times this season, I have been around long enough to know that no match for United is a must win in November.

Would love to see Welbeck and Rafael back for this. Missed them both.

You are forgetting Leverkusen (A) on 27th Nov. A bit of hectic schedule considering the following Spurs (A) on 1st Dec is also no walkthrough. Should avoid losses in all 3, but the easiest of 3 is Cardiff and a win here should keep up in the top 5. A loss would not be disaster, but make digging ourselves out harder.

I was meaning November in any season, not specific to upcoming games. Just the time in the season, there are still months left.

This should be a win.I expect this to be a win.Adnan will play hopefully and Fellaini and Nani are likely starters.I think many thought that 7 points from Arse,Cardiff and Spurs would be a good return.Win this and we can start thinking 9 points.Certainly Spurs away seems less daunting than it did a month ago.

December sees us play 5 league games away from home so hopefully we can see November out in style.I reckon 3-1 United.

How people can drop Jones after his last performance I don't know.

He's more a destroyer, unless you want to play him at centreback I wouldn't put him in the team. We need players who are going to create and open them up.
