All this talk of shipping out players like Beckham, Giggs, Ole, Gary Neville, Barthez, and even Keane.

All players who have served us well and aren't exactly past their sell by dates.

The team has been decimated by injuries all season, and so it's really impossible to judge any of these players who have been performing, in the main, in weakened sides. We've all been "guilty" of saying what's wrong, and where things can be improved. But that's a lot different to demanding wholesale destruction of the team.

Call yourselves supporters? You don't know the meaning of the word. Especially as we have to rely on them until January at least, and even then there won't be that many changes. I'm sure they would all be very encouraged if they looked at this site.

No wonder a lot of caf regulars have disappeared - and there will be a lot more whilst the muppets have taken over.

iam sure you're one of the 'SAF is past it lets get McLaren in' brigade.... <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />

The cafe has been 'dying' for a while now, not just since United's 'slump'.

There's too many muppets thesedays, you're right Liv.

Peoples opinions are what its all about, but some of this lot need their heads checking. In my opinion ;)

Yes, but who suggested the possibility of re-building the team in the first place ?

they've got the rest of the season to prove themselves... if they're not upto it...i think SAF, will get his axe out....

he's still got it, iam sure he'll prove it AGAIN to all the muppets.

But don't you think that a 'slump' in United's performances could go some way to getting rid of a lot of the muppets? Sure United are always going to be well supported in Thailand and Peru, etc, but a few trophiless years will see a lot of the 'lifelong reds since 1999' feck off and start following the dippers or arse.

sure there seem to be alot of muppets around (although the definition of muppet still seems to be to be someone the other person doesn't like) it means the jokes get funnier...

It's obvious the team has to be rebuilt, but by strengthening it, and in transition, not by a massacre.

And who did?

You'd think so yes. But it seems they revel in whinging about our performances.

They'll be gone soon. ;)

I am not sure what is suppposed to constitute a `muppet`. According to one bright little vegemite on this board you are a muppet if you don`t think Diego Forlan is a world class striker.

I, too, think all the talk of showing the door to some established players is getting a little beyond rational. I mean, replace who? Class players don`t lose their ability overnight. However, much as some of us support Keano through everything, I think his opinions have contributed to a lost of the misguided talk and misinformation on this board.

Keano has the right to his opinion but I would have preferred it if he had actually come out and named names so that players like Giggsy who may be inconsistent this year but is still a Red Devil through and through and hates losing, don`t get unfairly stigmatised as somehow having lost their hunger.

I think Henning Berg was shipped out because Sir Alex thought he had lost his hunger but somebody mentioned Coley in another posting and I thought that was simply not true. I believe the younger, stronger, seemingly more predatorial (then) Ruud simply was seen to be the future of the strike force whereas Andy had contributed so much yet was nearing 30.

However, at the same time I will defend the right of any poster to criticise the team (even the Nevilles and Giggsy) although I will defend those players whom I think are having to endure unfair and ill-informed criticism. I don`t think it makes them muppets although I think some of the postings are a bit over the top.

watch out! now they'll call you a muppet <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

Supporting the club is paramount Liv. The core group of our treble winning year aren't going to be sufficient forever. Its not a bad thing to talk about gradually replacing some of the players who have seen their better days.

agreed. i just think we (ie someone in the club) needs to see whether these players are past their best, or it's the tatics, or the managing (not just fergie but others). i think they are trying to do this, and that's why they are bringing in new coaches (or bumping others up)

But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system, and public health... What has SAF ever done for us?

Its not death, its evolution. Some die out, others come into being. Others, like the old-timers (myself in particular :p ) just prove to be more successful.

agreed 100%. we need to strengthen this team. the tactics need to make use of the players more efficiently.. if players like giggs can enjoy playing for wales more then it means he too can enjoy playing for United like in the past.. when he said he's enjoying for wales more i think it's possible that he's simply implying that he's not playing in his favourite style at United. could be other things also, but this must surely be one of the reasons!

i really doubt letting go of players at this stage will do us any good. why not try 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 where the wings are used more? why not bring in few new faces to compete for positions?

last thing we need is offloading players in bulk. it will destroy the spirits of the team.

The key word here Raoul is "gradually".

Agree with both these points.

And it's not criticism (measured) that is the problem. It's all this crap about shipping out more than half the team who are all still under 30 - players who will obviously have less of a role in the years to come, but are still young enough and good enough to contribute.

Unless these players actually want to go, then over the next few seasons, they will, if nothing else, be excellent back up.

We have a weak squad ffs - what's the point in selling a host of big names, spending out on younger big names, and then also having to spend out on backup???

And it's not Verón. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Yeah, Giggs. :(

For various reasons.

Giggs still has plenty to offer. If he really wants to stay at United, the first step should be to drop him for a few games - it happened with Beckham. Might revitalise him if he had to fight for a place. I would try that before the drastic step of selling him.

Real Madrid did it with Redondo, Valencia did it with Mendieta, Barça did it with Ronaldo, all great pieces of business. Not only (in the first two cases) did it improve the team as a whole, it brought in lots of cash to spend elsewhere.

He's getting too old I feel for a winger. He's almost 29, so in 2 years he'll be replaced on the wing anyway. I say take the cash and run.

I have always said that is how he will end his career. Sort of a Sheringham like player with a bit of pace.

Do you think that his finishing is good enough to play such a role for United though?
