Bundesliga 2017/18

Sandro Wagner a mile offside for Bayern's first goal.

Hummels. . . Is there a more over rated defender in Europe than Mats Hummels?

It's been an interesting month of April for Niko Kovac in the Bundesliga. . .

1st April: Bremen (A) LOST 2-1
8th April: Hoffenheim (H) 1-1
12th April: Appointed next manager of Bayern Munich
14th April: Leverkusen (A) LOST 4-1
21st April: Hertha Berlin (H) LOST 3-0
28th April: Bayern Munich (A) LOST 4-1

But he send Schalke out of the Cup...

I don't know.. have at least some respect for the teams who are still competing for Europe?
Don’t be ridiculous. Throw away their chance to get into the CL final in order to „show some respect“ to Stuttgart, Gladbach et al.?

Think Hamburg will have to win their last two to stay up especially with Freibrug's last minute winner.

Think Wolfsburg will beat Koln last day and Mainz will get a couple of draws from their games.

Yeah, can we still switch to Nagelsmann? :wenger:

When I checked the Bundesliga last Frankfurt were in third place. Now that Bayern has taken their manager, in the most important part of the best season they've had in years. They have dropped down to 7th and haven't won in 5.

Lose today 4-1 to Bayern to add more icing to that cake.

Meanwhile Bayern players jump around for joy after their weekly 5-0 or whatever stroll against tragic Bundesliga fodder. In the background that mundane anthem plays each time they take advantage of terrible Bundesliga defending (See their 2nd today). Meanwhile their annual choke against Spanish opposition gets forgottten in the background. Until next week when we repeat the circus.

Just an utterly miserable backwards league.

As a German , It is so severely depressing. I remember the promise in 2012. So so promising.

and poof...

If Leverkusen und Leipzig keep competing like they do he will play Champions League next season with Hoffenheim..

I can´t even name five Hoffenheim players and that´s probably every regular Bundesliga observer outside of Hoffenheim. :(

I‘m glad you got that off your chest. Thanks for sharing.

Mainz deservedly beating Leipzig.

Stays the same Hamburg will have to win their final two games to have any chance of surviving in Bundesliga.

Given that this is Hamburg....
They'll probably lose both games three nil with the results later reversed in Hamburgs favour due to some technicality ....

Edit:
Not strictly true btw....if Wolfsburg lose their final 2 matches they will be relegated if Hamburg will one of their final two .... to then enter a play off spot likely to be against H Kiel .... A match I would strongly suggest they would win.

Leipzig imploding during the season finish, CL is gone for certain now and even the EL is still at stake. I love it!

3-0 Mainz! Now Leipzig have fecked up their goal difference as well :drool:

I'm assuming Wolfsburg will beat already relegated Koln at home on last day. If a relegation threatened team could pick a game for final day it would be that fixture so that's a gift.

Easier game than Gladbach at home last day anyway.

Wolfsburg is completely dead, they have no character, no soul, no will, no atmosphere that will drive them forward. I don't think it's safe to assume that they beat anyone. Cologne's relegation stems from their Stöger days, since Ruthenbeck took over they have been doing okay and they strike me as a team that will put some effort into finishing with a bit of dignity.

Wolfsburg had a run of 0-0 at Berlin, 0-2 at Freiburg and 0-0 at home to Augsburg a few weeks back so think they can grind a 1-0 at home to Koln.

Yesterday's result was shocking though.

I agree they've lost their way badly as a club and will probably get relegated in the next few seasons.

Their starting 11 yesterday had players like William, Uduokhai, Tisserand, Steffen in. Have no idea who any of them are and they've got a few more on the bench.

Most of their big money signings from other lower Bundesliga clubs have flopped like Younes Malli and Didvadi. Origi's career seems to be going downhill aswell.

Just think 2-3 years ago they had a spine of Benaglio-Naldo-Ricardo Rodriguez-Luis Gustavo-De Bruyne-Bas Dost. Then they replaced KdB with Draxler.

Anyway looking forward to Bremen-Dortmund.

Werder Bremen are one of my favourite teams in the Bundesliga to follow, they always seem to be involved in the games of the season with their end to end play.

Dortmund have very young forward line today....Pulisic-Phillip-Sancho.

It also seems to be one of the unwritten rules of football that in any league anywhere a relegated team likes to drag someone else down with them.

Sancho is going to make Dortmund a lot of money in 1-3 years.

A shame Kruse isn't a more mentally stable or politically correct person. As a player he should be on the plane to Russia.

At least Reus is fit. Fingers crossed as he deserves some luck at a major tournament.

What the hell has happened to Leipzig in the last month?

They haven't been that great all season, particularly since the winter break, so this isn't a sudden fall from grace, but rather a gradual one. Maybe it's fatigue from playing a physically very demanding style, maybe it's supposed key players like Forsberg and Keita not giving a damn, since they will be gone anyway. Hasenhüttl seems to be a lame duck at this point as well.

Curious stuff happening in Bundesliga regarding Tobias Stieler (ref).
It all started with Nils Petersen seeing two yellow cards in quick succession for complaining about a penalty call in Freiburg's match vs Schalke. Which stirred up some controversy because Freiburg's coach went ballsitic and there were question whether or not Petersen actually registered his first yellow card.

The DFB tribunal then piled on the controversy by making the unusual judgement of overruling the one match ban.

And now almost exactly a month later news is breaking that DFB suspended Stieler for the rest of the season because he refused to give testimony at the aforementioned hearing.
The supposed reason being that Petersen supposedly called him the German equivalent of wanker and that Stieler would've implicated himself in testifying to that because that would've clearly warranted a straight red, thus proving his favouritism towards Petersen who according to the DFB tribunal Stieler is friends and on a first name basis with.

If Wolfsburg actually manages to save the HSV again, they will probably become the new least popular club in Germany. After the HSV, of course. Hate so say it but I really feel like they will finish 16 and fluke a win in the relegation playoffs. God, I hate this club  Especially since Köln would have deserved staying in the league much more and I say this as a Leverkusen supporter. Played much better football and got really unlucky, especially with the VAR..

I did mention Stieler at the time. All of this stemmed from Stieler himself and his dreadful decision to give Schalke a penalty which was a blatant dive, although a very good dive. Moments later a clearly angered Petersen obviously had a word.

I'd find your last sentence there difficult to believe. Surely favouritism would be to ignore any comment from Petersen and not send him off at all?

Everything you need to know about Stieler. It's not a surprise that's everytime him.

Bundesliga conference should be a great watch today with all games being played today at 15:30 CET.

2nd Bundesliga even more tomorrow - 2 matches to go and all from rank 8 onwards theoretically still could go down.

Hamburg is leading away 0:1 and Wolfsburg is losing. Hamburg 16th at the moment.

Wolfsburg losing....Hamburg were briefly winning but VAR correctly ruled out the goal.

I love Süle but he's got to stop scoring own goals. 3rd this season

Seriously, what is happening with Lewandowski? Looks sluggish, as if he's lost a step.
