Bundesliga 2017/18

DFB cup round of 8 - Bayern currently 3-0 up against Paderborn shortly before HT.

Aaand more of the same in the second half - 6-0 FT :)

It sounds like there was that much distance - but Paderborn really played well but did not park the bus like the usual underdog. It was a very good to watch match.

Werder leads 2:0 in Leverkusen after a penalty and a counter...

Yeah, Paderborn should have scored a couple. Some great attempts, including one hit to the post.

Leverkusen - Werder is a great game. We could do it, but it still will be very difficult.

That Kruse pass for your second goal. Keep him fit and you'll be nowhere near bottom 3 come the final game.

Julian Brandt scored a great second goal also. Hopefully he can kick on as seems he's stalled in his career last year.

Brandt will move for sure in the summer. Top player.

Bayern basically had a training today. Their goals were so easy. Paderborn looked 3/4 level below, not just 2.

Thanks for the VAR and the ref for this game.
Worst performance ever.

I'm really PRO VAR but that's a joke today. Bailey with 2,5 assaults and the ref watched the replay and only gave yellow.

Paderborn were only in the Bundesliga a short while ago.

Appointing Effenberg as coach wasn't their best move.

The goals were easy - but that was because they played very offensively and did not park the bus - Arsenallike... Usually teams do not play against Bayern like this. And no - they did not look like 3/4 levels below - you might just have seen the goals.

goals 0 : 6
shots 12 : 18
played passes 372 : 521
passing quote 83% : 85%
possession 41% : 59%

But they had a lot very good moments offensively.
Usually it is 20%:80% possession in such matches, passing quotes of the underdog near 50% and not so many shots.

Brandt is nowhere near good enough for bayern

Pretty sure he will end up with Bayern. His buyout clause in the summer I think is fairly cheap and Ribery and Robben are both getting old so they need more players for the wings.
For sure. Bayern just get all the Bundesliga best players and as you said, Bayern need a new winger.

True, they were even top of the league for some weeks . What a fall from grace in less than 4 years.
Not really a fall from grace, more a return to normality. They came from 4th tier in 2001 to the top, then went down again. Their one season in the Bundesliga has been the most success they've ever had.

Looks like Mainz will win away against Hertha.
Hamburg 6 points behind the relegation spot, they need a win tomorrow against Leverkusen.

Hamburg have finally run out of lives this time I reckon. Better quality at the bottom this year compared to a few of their other great escapes.

That said pretty sure Leverkusen have an abysmal record in Hamburg so wouldn't be shocked if they lost.

Bayern's team against Wolfsburg today. Vidal has to rest because of his 5th yellow card, Coman has the cold and James rests at home.

Look at the bench...

Robben dive, last minute penalty, shocker

Cologne getting their stoppage time winner overturned by VAR. Looks like it's a correct call, but once again cruel cruel for Cologne.

was a clear penalty. Itter grabs Robbens arm, turning him and making him lose his balance. of course Robben goes down then. everybody would have done the same.

That wasn't a penalty...hate dives like this one

Well Itter did pull him, Robben felt it and went down. I personally don't think it's a penalty because the contact was never enough to bring him down but people these days seem to believe any touch in the box warrants a penalty.

It was stupidity. You keep your hands off in such situations. It is a penalty because of that. Yes, if Robben really wanted to stay on his feet he would have - but you take what you get...

Happy that Bayern won, I want Wolfsburg to go down but that was another pathetic dive from Robben. The penalty on Kroos for Real Madrid during the week was already soft but at least that was grab at the shoulder/chest, a pull that can actually influence the body movement - unlike that Bayern penalty. Light hold of his hand and Robben goes down as if someone chopped his legs off, loved the slow motion showing his face screaming in agony, yeah that must've really hurt you poor guy.

To German posters - Do you think Effenberg's crazy plan to make the Bundesliga more competitive actually work ?
