Bundesliga 2017/18

What a comical but great save by Hitz! Header by Vidal to the crossbar and Hitz somehow manages to pat the ball away from the line in mid-air while falling and then buries it.
I was so expecting Vidal to kick him into the goal together with the cradled ball. Hahaha.

Bayern will at least score 5 and Augsburg will get a red card

I watched 10 man Bayer Leverkusen battle back for a draw vs RB Leipzig today. It's the first time I've seen Leon Bailey play. He looked like a physical beast with a top tier skillset playing left back in a back 5 and scored the tying goal. I've liked Kieran Tierney and Demetri Mitchell's potential to succeed Young at left back/left wing back for United, but 20 year old Leon Bailey looks like a world class talent ready for a top 5 club right now.

Another defeat for Koln. Another game they don't score.

Surely them letting Modeste go has to be one of the worst transfer deals in last 10 years in europe. Worse than Everton letting Lukaku go, worse than us selling Benteke and replacing him with Jordan Ayew and Rudy Gestede.

What I don't understand instead of just flogging him to a premier league club offering 30m, they loaned him to a Chinese Club for two years?! They get a couple of million euros as a loan fee and Quanjian have 29m euros option to buy him at end of that.

So they get the money when they're probably in Bundesliga 2 or he just comes back and they've wasted seasons with Jhon Cordoba upfront.

As much as in the EPL were City is 8 ahead and in Spain where Barcelona is 7. But yes, if the others act like they did recently and Bayern does, too - then...
Dortmund are fecked, while Leipzig are good, but not enough to fight for the title.

He has only played as RB this season if i recall correctly

He was a midfielder when he joined the club, but got his breakthrough as CB under pep (due to injuries). He frequently also helped out as RB and he starts there for the national team. He can play almost everywhere but he is a RB now. That's where he is a nailed on starter while he is a fairly unknown quantity in midfield as professional first league player. Especially his offensive contribution is pretty remarkable.

Seeing Cologne's spike in gross spending I doubt that there is any uncertainty about the fee.
Modeste is approaching 30, his career hasn't been stellar up to that point and Cologne's wages probably cap at €2-3m p.a. - so this was both Modeste's and Cologne's last opportunity to get some serious cash out of him. So I think it's understandable that they let him go instead of risking an deeply unhappy talisman.
I think the real mistake how they went about investing the money they got for him. When you sell the guy who scores literally half your goals then just spending big money on one guy who scored 5 goals each in his last two seasons just isn't enough.
Frankfurt for example signed Haller, Boateng and Rebic for little money all three of which have a strong drive towards goal. Augsburg found a relatively cheap and goal hungry second striker / AM in Gregoritsch.

And the league is all but decided at this point. Dortmund are busy sorting themselves out, Leipzig need this season at least to learn how to deal with CL football and being a team to beat. The other teams simply aren't good enough.

That's a common theme for so many Bundesliga clubs in recent years. Sell big -> buy dross -> nosedive into mediocrity or worse.

We scored 4 goals in 11 games before this game.
New coach, first home game: 4 goals

Kruse 3 goals and one assist.

Think Cologne are fecked. They are the "german Benevento".

Nearly fell off I chair when I saw they signed Jhon Cordoba for 15m euros. Talk about wasting money. Watched a fair few Mainz games last season and the bloke was very average for them. He averages 5 goals a season and was supposed to be Modeste's replacement?! Someone on his wiki has even compared him to Carlton Cole.

Could only score against us in the Europa League

I can definitely see Dortmund losing tbh. They are so incredibly vulnerable at the back.

I wouldn't be so sure about Bosz getting fired if they lose. Dortmund and Watzke in particular can be very patient and it's not like they are drowning in promising replacement candidates.

As for the game: Dortmund have been struggling heavily with 5212 ish formations that mirror their build up and use aggressive man marking, an approach that wouldn't take a whole lot of adjusting on Schalke's part.
On the other hand in the last Buli match vs Stuttgart Bosz found a way to exploit that scheme, until his team collapsed after conceding the 2:1.

Given Dortmund's crisis Schalke are probably considered favourites at the moment, but since these Derbies have their way to defy the odds and expectations I think a draw is most likely.

The problem is that with a loss they´d fall behind Schalke and (likely) RBL by six points. Plus Gladbach, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen are right there, too. they can´t f*** around forever. That would probably trigger a response, even if Watzke would take another loss.

Since the title is all but gone already Dortmund's goal will be top 4. Even with a loss they'd be four points behind Gladbach at worst. And neither them (BMG) nor Schalke are really top sides, so you can expect them to drop plenty of points over the course of the season.
A lot could depend on the how, whether or not the team is showing signs of progress, some energy and determination.

I agree. Bosz problem right now is not the table position, nor the fact they'll not progress in CL. These are all things BVB could and possibly would remain patient about, if they are still cautiously confident in Bosz's work.
His problem is that the team seems to be in free fall, and the casual easyness with which they concede goals at the moment seems to pose a problem he does not appear to have an answer for.

So if performances stabilize somewhat, I do agree that it shouldn't be considered a no brainer they sack him right now. Who will come in?
Apart from their original first choice Favre, I don't know. Other good choices would only be available in summer.
More sensible approach might be, let him try to work out things, and unless results remain abysmal for the whole season (meaning no European football) keep him until summer, and then bring Wolf, or someone like that, in if they still need a change.

Bosz problem is his fecking terrible tactic with shitty 433 combined. His team choice is also a disaster, especially when it comes to Dahoud. He has 2 gems Midfielders and he is destroying one of them while keeping the other one on the bench. Guerreiro, Weigl and Dahoud need to play and they need to play in their proper positions, instead of the mediocre ones like Schmelzer, Castro, Sahin.
