Bundesliga 2017/18

'Massive decline for some years now'? What absolute nonsense.

Here it comes, the arrogant comment I have been expecting.

If winning a league with zero competition for you is enough to be satisfied by your team then fine, but the fact ia Bayern have been disappointing in Europe for some years even though they are strangely always considered candidates for the title and the main players of the forward line are getting older with zero planning to start replacing them.

To be fair, they have made it to the semi finals 3 time out of their last 4 attempts. They've been knocked out by the eventual champions 3 times.

They've been a good side the past few seasons, but lacking that something extra that Barcelona and Real have had.

Although I do agree that they are declining somewhat under Carlo

Imo, A big club shouldn't be satisfied of just reaching the semis and losing by 4 goals to Madrid or 3 to Barca. Expectations for such teams should be higher. I mean I don't think Madrid or Barca or be satisfied at all by just reaching the semi final and losing.

Bayern have been always a candidate to win the CL every season and they must show that.

I always thought Neuer's inujry would cost Bayern some points in a subtle way. Guess I was wrong. How often have Bayern not converted a 2 goal lead at the AA? Feels like a first.
Last time this happened was in August 2008 when Bayern failed to beat Hamburg after going ahead 2-0 thanks to goals from Schweinsteiger & Podolski.
Hamburg's scorer that night? Guerrero & Trochowski who both played for Bayern.

One player even featured tonight who played for Hamburg in that very draw - guess who!

ffs.

Since NBC will not let me watch the United match I guess I will watch Hoffenheim/Schalke. Looks like another start for Weston McKinnie.

Dortmund just has to win the title this year. They have a better squad than Bayern and they don´t have any Carlo-sized elephants in the room.

They don't have a better squad than Bayern. They might have a better coach though, but that remains to be seen.

Also I was wrong about the €20M for Philipp being a waste of money. Really been class for them and Aubameyang is just a complete player. Would have been worth any amount last summer. Wonder where they can dump Schuerrle.

1-0 Phillipp
2-0 Philipp
3-0 Aubameyang

3-0 Dortmund at HT and Gladbach´s keeper stole two goals from Aubameyang. Could be 8-2. Thorgen Hazard is real class in his own right.

That first half from Dortmund was reminiscent of Pep's Barca. Obviously a lot more craft, where Messi, Xavi, Iniesta were art, but this extreme and suffocating dominance through methodical positional play is very impressive and reminds me of the Spaniards.
At the time of the 1-0 it was like 85%-15% possession, And even as the game got more open with each goal they finished the half at 77%-23%.

Impressive result, but i can't get past the impression that the Bundesliga is very weak. Dortmund are good but Moenchengladbach are shocking, their defense is non existing and the attack while ordinary still got past that mighty Dortmund defense couple of times. Is it just me?

Now its 4:0. This can turn really really ugly for Gladbach. We make no impression to stop any time soon and now the stadium shows its full strength.

Pulisic is the next €100M player for Dortmund.

Twice. The third time was actually offside. Gladbach has fallen apart but we also play with extreme pace and extremely offensive.

3rd goal for Aubameyang. Lewandowski probably throwing things at the TV screen. LOL at teams thinking Aubameyang was not worth €75M.

There it is. Dortmund concedes their first goal of the season: 1-5 Stindl.

My bad then, but the defense is very suspicious nonetheless. Credit about the attack, you don's score as many goals if you aren't good.

You have to keep in mind how high up the pitch they operate. Giving away a couple of opportunities is to be expected when your defenders operate deep into the opponents half.

I will be live at the stadium vs Real. Will be interesting to see how they do against a top team.

Bvb played fantastic today, but if they employ such a high defensive line versus Real they will get murdered. It's what cost them versus Tottenham.

Well they topped the group twice ahead of Real in the past few years. It will surely be entertaining as usual.

Sure they will drop down deeper, but they wont change much about their philosophy. They have a good home record (against Real too). Hope to see a goal fest

What kind of player is Phillip? I never watch Freiburg. Who would you compare him to stylistically?

He is very similar to the Marco Reus who joined us 2012 from Gladbach. Slightly less explosive in his dribbling but also stronger defensively, their movement and shooting are strikingly similar. It remains to be seen if Philipp can reach the cracy productivity Reus has at his best, but the potential for that is certainly there.

I have to say I was a bit early in my assessment of Dortmund not fixing their problems under Bosz after the games against Tottenham and Freiburg but I feel they look much stronger than they looked under Tuchel, also their new found comfortability in possession is a great addition to their team I feel.

Maybe in a season where Munich doesn't seem to be at their best they might actually be able to win the league again.

The difference so far between Bosz and Pep (and also Tuchel is) that unlike Pep and Tuchel, Bosz is all about winning. He doesn't care about using certain strategies that are neither special nor aesthetic, but simply efficient. The best example is the increased long balls into the front - into zones where there is no danger and a good chance to get the second ball by pressing. Something that neither Pep nor Tuchel would ever let their players do for some sort ego-reasons.

So far am positively surprised about Bosz. He seems to be smart, knows that focusing on a stable defense first is more important than creating some super-intense offense - while obviously not forgetting said offense. Additionally he seems to be learning quickly. He learned from the Tottemham game and unlike at Ajax - he is rotating a whole lot more.
Though I definitely wouldn't put him on Pep and Tuchel level. At least not yet. He has to show in the Champions League how well he can compete. We might blow it this year due to our tough group as a sort of learning experience for him.

As I said above, Bosz is smart and not ego-driven. He does what it takes to win. And if he thinks that still keeping that high defensive line up at home vs Real, then I am pretty sure he has his reasons. Though I see a good chance of going for a bit different approach in the away game. The good thing about his possession system is, that he combines it with a healthy amount of pressing. And a team that can press usually also can do pretty well on counter-attacking strategies by the nature of similar defending styles.

As I said above, the key difference is that Bosz doesn't have his eg in the way. Tuchel himself said that for him the most important aspect is aesthetic. And you could see that a lot. The players didn't use certain strategical elements of the game at times where these would be the smartest move to do. That must have been an instruction. The problem with this approach is that humans aren't perfect, but you expect them to play the perfect game. The other problem is that it demands Tuchel to do a whole ton of inner-game adjustment of positions which is just incredibly tough on the players.

Bosz rose from relative obscurity to the best Dutch trainer in 2 seasons. I really like him, intelligent and classy and a very recognizable hand in the teams a coaches.

Looks like Pizarro is joining Cologne tomorrow. They need a clinical striker, these chances today...
Happy for him.

Bailey has been creating since he came on. I have no idea why he did not start after having 2 assists in their last match. But, I am biased.
