Bundesliga 2016/17

Dortmund look very impressive, not sure Carlo is going to win the Bundesliga this season.

TBF most of that Dortmund team have been together from day one of preparation while most Bayern players only quite recently returned to training.

Wow... Vidal carries us again. Beast!

Müller and Lahm
Now if only Lahm could put in a decent cross

Great keeping for the first effort in my opinion, the second one was unlucky rather then poor I'd say.

It was hit pretty hard, could have done better though i suppose palming it in a different direction.

Yeah thought he could've palmed it out better although his defensive cover didn't help him out. Maybe a bit harsh but having DDG in goals gives higher expectations.

no matter what the actual outcome will be - i, for one, am just relieved that dortmund managed to play a somewhat decent match against a very very fierce opponent.

yes, that is the state of my mind right now.

And it is the right mindset. This is a nice to have trophy, but more importantly a real performance test. We looked very good for 60 minutes until we ran out of gas, which is understandable at this point of the season and way more fluid than I expected it to be. What we need the most is time to really bring the team together and thankfully our start fixtures (first 5 league games and cup game) are not of this calibre and they also don´t have a Neuer to bail them out.

I won't be happy about this until I know more about the state of Vidal's foot.

Gotta be frank, I don't rate the Bundesliga. It's wank aside from those two teams. But today's match was delightful. The 2/3 of it.

Hummels and Lahm were terrible today.

Neuer was great and Vidal/Javi was good...

Everyone else was subpar.

Bayern need to buy a pacy central player.

Edit. Pref. an attacker. Sanchez is what I had in mind, not Renato.

You mean like Sanches?
Given the circumstances, it was a satisfactory performance. Our EURO players joined the squad just a week ago, and Dortmund played exclusively the guys who did the full pre-season.
We still have 2 weeks before the league starts. Until then most of our injured players will be back, and the others will have catched up on their training deficits.
The only thing I hope Carlo has learned today, is that you don't field grampy Xabi against teams like Dortmund.

Or ever. He shouldn't be on a pitch anywhere outside a retirement home.

Ribery escaping a red card vs Dortmund has to be one of the most prominent traditions of German football by now.
Other than that things showed what was to be expected, Dortmund are very hungry and a potential thread to Bayern, but the latter are more clinical and experienced.

Hmmm. Even two hours later, I'm not quite sure what I've seen tonight. That was interesting, to say the least.

Apparently Carlo turned around Bayern entirely. There was no Pep-style pressing, no Pep-style possession play. What I saw tonight was very dense defensive play, with occassional breaks forward. Pretty much the exact opposite of what Pep played. Much closer to Jupp 2013. But Carlo won tonight against a very motivated and well playing Dortmund team, in Dortmund.

In his post match interview Carlo said the second half was pretty much what he liked. In fact the second half was like the first half, just with an even better defense. And Boateng wasn't even playing.

For my German liking about football that style is a little too Italian, not the stuff I prefer. But then, this Bayern squard is damned to win the CL this year, no matter which way.

It's going to be very interesting when the German pundits and journalists will start to figure out that those days under Pep provided the most beautiful football in the Bundesliga ever, while they were constantly complainig about (sh)it. Now they will start to realize that this won't come back. Ever. What will they say now?

Dortmund looked great for long streches. They have so much speed and skills, that I doubt any ordinary team will be able to stop them. They will score 100 goals this season.

After tonight, I believe Dortmund will win the Bundesliga. And Bayern will win the CL.

I think you reading too much into this game. Dortmund isn't quite like regular opposition, and they were already firing on all cylinders, while half our team was still rusty due to a lack of preparation time.
We'll still be a possession team for about 95% of the fixtures. We won't be seeing us having a battle for possession against teams like Barca, that's true.
Have to admit, seeing us grind out a cynical win filled me with a freakish kind of satisfaction:D It's been years since I've eyewitnessed such from us. Kinda refreshing, that.
Pep's gone, and with him the finesse we've gotten used to. Nothing we can do about it, but to accept things as they are. Carlo brings efficiency, and while not as aesthetically astute, he's not known for playing ugly football. As you've said, it's like a return to the Jupp days.
As for the championship race, I too think it'll be very hard for us to beat Dortmund this year. They are very hungry, and have an insane amount of quality depth in their squad.

Yellow card for Ribery was the right decision in the action with Passlack.
I think it was again borderline to a red and he couldn't complain if he got sent off. It's pretty annoying how Ribery constantly lashes out whenever someone pulls his shirt or holds him. It usually looks much worse in the replay than it is, but it's such a bad habit. He got really lucky so far in his career that the referees let him get away with it every time.

He missed a CL Final and a possible Ballon d'Or (had he played in Madrid and Bayern had won) for a very soft red card once.

That 'soft' red card in 2010 had nothing to do with his bad habit of lashing out. It was a stamp on the ankle of one of the Lyon players. And he didn't miss a possible Ballon d'Or back then, he missed large parts of the season due to injuries, was pretty underwhelming often because of his personal problems with the underage prostitute story and clearly overshadowed by Robben's spectacular form.

I personally always thought it was an okay-ish decision anyway:

You can't complain if you get sent off for that stamp. I thought the extreme reaction of the club with the desperate attempt to get it overturned in front of the CAS was done just to please Ribery and convince him to stay/extend his contract, because there wasn't the slightest chance for it to happen.

I don't think this match showed us much for the future either way. Bayern are still at the earliest stages of their development under Ancelotti and Dortmund had half of their nominal first team missing.

While a less dominant approach might be vital in the CL I'm not sure if you can still win Bundesliga with it (if Dortmund have a good season), teams have gotten very effective at disrupting the build up of their opponents and avoiding (counter-) pressing traps as for example Klopps struggles in his later seasons showed.
