Bundesliga 2016/17

Alaba would never be able to play CB in the EPL... Only bayern munich can play 2 non cbs as CBs.

edit: Alaba played a ton of CB last season too, in Bundesliga....

Nor would he in the Bundesliga - he is a FAR better left back than CB and it showed last season. This was Jena, not a Bundesliga club.

A lot of injuries and not great depth.

He featured in preseason and did a good job. It is the cup and Bayern wants to win it - no time for experiments with youngsters who do not know the team.

The German clubs take the competition serious - it is not like in the EPL where the first cup rounds are the time to bring youngsters.
I know, i'm German. ;)
Thanks to both of you for the explanation, though.

Right now there are three pen shoot outs going on at the same time  One of them features Leipzig vs. Dresden.

Gotta love the early DFB cup rounds.

EDIT: And the mighty Red Bull Leipzig gets eliminated via pens after having a two goals lead. First Bundesliga club to bite the dust this year. Good start for them :D

Most competitive cup in the world?

Possibly. A lot of this comes down to the point of time of the first round, which is just genius. The lower league clubs start their seasons two-three weeks earlier then the Bundesliga clubs which gives them an physical edge and makes up some of the differences in terms of quality.

Once again Bremen got kicked out of the cup in their first game. They might regret that they kept Skripnik if they continue to play like today.

It is quite frankly amazing how much Ingolstadt sucks when they are supposed to play the active role in a game. Even in the conference, watching them failing at it again and again is nearly physically painful. Negative bastards...

We were lucky to even get into the shoot-out. Even though we wasted lots of chances in the regular 90 minutes, Regensburg were the much better team in extra time.

Bartra has a ridiculously good eye for the space opening pass and the technique to support it. Thanks to La Masia for this education. Strongest new player so far this season.

Him and Rode being my favorits so far. Solid players who will help us right from the start.

Defense-splitting passes against a 4th division side of plumbers and bank tellers. Ridiculously good thanks to La Masia

Given that he has hit these passes in every game so far, including vs. the two Manchester Clubs and you guys, I doubt the opposition has much to do with it. I would wager that the ability to hit the pass with the ideal weight and being able to see the best positioned receiver of a pass is far more influenced by him than the level of opposition.

So Dante is off to Nice to reunite with Favre.
With Naldo also having left, Wolfsburg have now lost two veteran Brazilian top CBs in one window.

kicker claims that "it is no secret" their preferred replacement for the position is Ginter, who reportedly isn't disinclined to move.
However, can BVB afford to let go of him at this point? Of course Bartra looks like the second coming of Nesta already, with no league game played, but still?

It doesn't seem like Ginter is that important to Dortmund quality wise, but in terms of depth they probably can't afford to sell him at this point.

Yes, we talked about that a few pages ago. Strange that Wolfsburg would be so confident, or determined, to go after him though, when it's absolutely certain BVB won't let him go.
Is there a possibility Dortmund do have an alternative lined up already right now, after all? (I know Toprak is supposed to come next summer etc.)

Ginter looked very promising at right-back at the beginning of last season. What happened?

I think Dortmund has done great business with Dembele and Mor. Both look like cracking youngsters and could end up being at least 40m+ players if they progress.

Ginter is quality and young, we need him, he is versatile, and we only got him,Bartra,Sokratis, and Bender as CB (maybe Merino too). There are better examples of who might get just a few playtime, like Sahin.

Important season for Halilovic, he clearly has the skills. Need to be more consistent and have decision making.

Ginter played with Süle a fantastic tournament. I think he is quite underrated, but he should leave if Tuchel doesn´t trust him as CB (which is imo his best position).

So Bayer have signed Dragovic for the central defense..

So maybe now there will be motion still? Could Toprak leave this summer already, after all? And then Ginter can leave to Wolfsburg accordingly?

Will be interesting to see if Schmidt at Leverkusen is able to develop the team to be more stable. If so, they could play a good role in this season. The squad is fine imo.

I just built my "Kicker-Managerspiel" squad by the way. Let's hope the best for my lads.

Why are you so desperate to see Ginter leaving?
