Bundesliga 2016/17

I'm pleased for Cologne, when I lived in Cologne I went to two games and I don't think they scored in either of the games. Solbakken was the coach at the time, dark times. Martin Lanig remains one of the worst footballers I've seen in the flesh.

Solbakken... yeah I remember him and of course Martin Lanig. But all forgotten now, the whole town is upside down and I am trying to read all the articles and posts despite heavy hangover.

As great as an achievement finishing 7th is for Freiburg I think they will be a relegation candidate next season should Dortmund win the cup. They aren't a stable team to begin with (-18 GD, 60 goals conceded), they won't be able to hold on to their key players (Grifo and Philipp seem to be leaving) let alone afford enough depth for dealing with 2-3 competition.
The EL qualification will disrupt their preparation, the group stages will distract their rather inexperienced players and drain them and I don't think they have the money to buy a turnaround during the winter break.
Yes, that's what happened to us the last time we qualified for the Europa League. It will be a really difficult season but I'm very much looking forward to it.
Christian Streich is the man!:D

Wolfsburg beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the 1st leg of the CL quarters last season and now they're very close to relegation. What's happened to them?

Volkswagen generating a huge loss and having to pay billions for emissions cheating scandal, no money for Wolfsburg football club, having to sell key players, etc.

Mission "we want a stadium full with red seats" is on as 1860 is 16th of the 2nd league having to go into the playoffs against Jahn Regensburg.

Stuttgart and Hannover return to the Bundesliga whereas Braunschweig's has to play against Wolfsburg in the playoffs (it is a derby as the cities are only 35 km apart)

The Baby Germanico (yes, I will dutyfully kill myself after clicking post reply) will be played tonight (19:30 CET) in Dortmund to crown the u19 champions. Apparently 21'000 tickets have already been sold (the record stands at 23'000 from the 70s), so the atmosphere should be excellent. Notable players for Dortmund are probably Passlack and Burnic, who both seem good bets for a Bundesliga career. Can't relly say a lot about Bayern's kids other than that they feature Tarnat's (long time Bayern and former City player) son and Götze's little brother.

German Sport1 will broadcast again. I'm not sure if you can watch it from outside Germany though.

I've heard rumors that Pulisic will play as well, is that true? Anyway, Bayern is the underdog in this game, but just being in the final is a huge result for youth academy.

I have no idea, but he hasn't played any u19 matches at all this season and he was subbed in at half time on Saturday, so I wouldn't bet on it.

Strange, could have sworn BVB missed one penalty before it was 5-5. I only watched with one eye and without sound tho.

Yeah, both teams missed the second penalty but didn't the third or fourth BVB penalty hit the crossbar? Must have counted, obviously

It hit the underside of the bar, then bounced onto that metal bar the net is tied to at the back of the goal and out.

Right, thanks. The way it looked to me was it hit the bar, then the ground before the goal line and out. That's why I was scratching my head when penalties continued after we scored the 5th.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Got myself a ticket courtesy of Frau FBR's family who all live in Braunschweig.

Yeah, I know there's VAG money indirectly behind BTSV, but I've always considered Wolfsburg as a real Sugar Daddy club - without VAG they'd really be nothing and, hopefully, will be nothing again very soon with or without VAG.

The new Bundesliga tv rights deal is going to increase revenue quite a bit next season:

1. Bayern 99.1M €
2. Dortmund 89.3M €
3. Schalke 78.7M €
4. Leverkusen 78.4M €
5. Mönchengladbach 69.5M €
6. Wolfsburg 68.3M €
7. Hertha 54.4M €
8. Hoffenheim 52.6M €
9. Mainz 50.3M €
10. Köln 48.9M €
11. Augsburg 48.1M €
12. Bremen 47.5M €
13. Frankfurt 45.2M €
14. Freiburg 41.2M €
15. Hamburg 39.8M €
16. Hannover 34.4M €
17. Stuttgart 33.0M €
18. Leipzig 29.0M €

Teams who've recently played CL games still get way more than everyone else but I'm hoping this will strengthen the mid-table clubs since they're going to make the biggest relative gains. Hertha for instance jumps from 30M to 54M €, that's an 80% increase.
If Wolfsburg were to mess things up against Braunschweig that would shake things up a bit since they're one of the top earners.
In case anyone is wondering about Leipzig, the ranking is mostly based on the past 5 years and Leipzig only has one Bundesliga season so far. They could add another 40-50M € in revenue in the next few years, quite scary.

The distribution does not have anything to do with having played CL matches but with rankings in the last 5 seasons. That the teams like this often played international, too, is just a result of that rank.

I like that Freiburg and Augsburg receive more than Hamburg...

That is incorrect. The national tv revenues are based on a weighted Bundesliga ranking of the past 5 years. This part is pretty fairly distributed: Bayern get 58.5M €, Dortmund 57.3M €, HSV get 34.1M € for instance.
But then there are also international TV revenues and those are distributed the following way: 25% are evenly distributed, 25% are distributed according to the amount of CL or EL starts in the past 10 seasons and the remaining 50% are distributed according to performance in CL/EL games in the past 5 years.
This is where the gap opens up: Bayern get a whooping 40.6M € piece of that pie, Dortmund follow with 32M €...Wolfsburg for instance get 17.8M € due to their strong CL season (+1 pretty good EL run). A team like Augsburg with its lone EL appearance gets 6.0M € whereas Köln who haven't played a single international game this millenium have to live with 3.1M €.

This whole relegation business seems so unfair to 2.Bundesliga teams, it was a terrible idea to reinstate those games. In the past 8 years it has kept Mönchengladbach, Hoffenheim, HSV (twice ^^) and Frankfurt from having to pay for bad seasons whereas long-time Bundesliga teams such as Bochum, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe or Nürnberg were robbed of their chance to make it back to the top league.
Considering how much more money can be earned in the Bundesliga it would be better if they made it easier to reach it.

Dortmund's defense is as exciting as their attack. 1-1
