Buffon

But what about the other eight or nine goalkeepers we're buying in the summer? Won't he prefer to go to a club where there's a little less competition for the number one spot?

Fergie is trying a new format where we play 11 Goalkeepers in a team.

But what about the other eight or nine goalkeepers we're buying in the summer? Won't he prefer to go to a club where there's a little less competition for the number one spot?

Didn't we actually bring in a similar number at the same time as signing VdS? I can definitely see us needing 2 or 3 at least this summer post VdS, PIG and Foster...

Manchester United intend to buy Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon in the summer, it has been revealed.
Popular Mediaset journalist Gianni Balzarini has revealed United are the only suitor for Buffon, who will move to Old Trafford once he has proved his long-term fitness.
A deal in January will not be considered as United want to see Buffon play consistently before shelling out for the Italy No1 - and Balzarini is adamant the Red Devils are the only serious contender for the player's signature.
The prospect of Buffon remaining with Juve is now remote and it's claimed Marco Storari is regarded within the club as their long-term first-choice.
Buffon is also being urged to make the move to United as they're seen as having better prospects of winning the Champions League in the coming years than Juve.

Man Utd will sign Juventus keeper Buffon once fitness proved | Serie A News | tribalfootball.com#

Tribal Football I know but he would be a great signing. Should we sign him I reckon we could get 3/4 years out of him.

Still in the top 3 for me as best keepers in the World.

He's only 32 - surely a keeper of his quality would last us to 40 like VDS if given the right training like we have proven with VDS to prolong his career.

I'd be concerned about this fitness too though... Not the same keeper as before but still a top 10 keeper in the world.

So credible Italian sources believe Utd have agreed a 15mil deal for Buffon with Juve,as long as he proves fitness in 2011.Been inj since WC

Manchester United are being linked with Gigi Buffon after new loaded comments from Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.

After coach Gigi del Neri and GM Beppe Marotta had their say on Buffon's commitment and place at the club earlier this month, Agnelli has also weighed in.

Discussing both Buffon and skipper Alessandro del Piero, Agnelli declared: "The stars would never become stars with the support of the playing group - and this includes Buffon and Del Piero.

"Del Piero and Buffon could only emerge as individuals with the support of the squad."

Buffon admitted just a fortnight ago an admiration for the Premier League and Agnelli's comments may hasten his departure.

Del Piero will also be wondering what to make of the declaration, particularly with his contract due to expire in June.

Along with United, Bayern Munich may also move for Buffon after struggling to find agreement with Schalke for Manuel Neuer.

this would make sense alongside the lindegaard signing (not sure about the injury record though)

Hasn't been the same in recent years. 3 years ago and I'd be jumping up and down at the thought -- now he's almost like Cech, still moments of brilliance but just not the same.

Buffon: I could leave Juve

Gianluigi Buffon has acknowledged the possibility that he could leave Juventus as speculation persists over his future.

Buffon, 33, has reportedly been told he will have to take a pay-cut if he is to remain with Juve and Italian newspaper La Repubblica recently claimed he was likely to choose between a summer move to either Roma or Arsenal.

The goalkeeper's agent, Silvano Martina, said this week that he was unsure whether he would remain in Turin but said he had not had any contact with Arsenal.

"I don't know [if he will stay]," he told Goal.com. "We will have to evaluate things with the club. What we do know is that he still has a two-year deal there.

"There are no contacts with Arsenal. I know that they need a goalkeeper, and of course they are a very important club, but I have not had any contacts."

Martina added that there has been no "contact from the Manchester-based clubs".

Buffon has also stressed that he has had no dealings with any interested parties but added weight to the notion he is considering his options.

Asked if he would be at Juventus for life, Buffon told Italian TV show Chiambretti Night: "That could be considered as true but it is not totally correct."

He added: "I don't think I'm a man for the transfer market - you can't make money on a 33-year-old. Nevertheless, I do think that I have still got four or five years left in me at the top level.

"No other clubs have contacted me, but if there was a possibility of a move then I would discuss the matter with [Juve director general] Giuseppe Marotta."

Roma could be set for an injection of funds as New England Sports Ventures partner Thomas DiBenedetto closes in on a club takeover, and Buffon believes that will be positive for Serie A.

He said: "It'll be important that someone like Thomas DiBenedetto, with his economical power, enters the world of Italian football."

Posted on ESPN soccernet however they are quoting Goal.com, suprised to see arsenal be linked with him because a) it makes sense b) he would ask for high wages, something Im not sure is possible within their budget.

we should go for him - I would feel much more confortable with an experienced head like him rather than the likes of De Gea

I can't see why he'd leave Juve for another Italian club, Madrid not Barca will go for him with their respective keepers... does seemingly open the door for a move to England

I'd be shocked if he's available and we're not interested

Is he actually on a free this Summer?

Surely it's a no brainer to go for him? I mean, if we thought Owen was a good freebie...

Yes, we'll sign Kaka to keep him company on the bench whole they're injured all the time. Both Owen's would enjoy the new faces.

His experience would be invaluable you have to admit. Been there done that and if he can shake off the injury bug would be a brilliant buy.

Would push Arsenal into major contention too if he went there. Luckily Arsene seems to think Almunia > Buffon

He's injured yet again. Back injury now. Such a waste of a huge talent.

What? Being the best goalie of his generation and being part of a back 5 that won Italy the a World Cup is a waste?

Some people sure do have some high standards.
