Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

So as I expected, Sporting are asking for an insane figure and we aren't budging.

I imagine it'll come down to how desperate Sporting are to sell, and how flexible we can be.

It's a bit of a stand off right now, but I'd expect it'll get done eventually as it's a sellers market.

Do you have any idea of how much they will be asking for please?

Reports are they originally wanted 70m, with the Joao Felix deal they starting asking for more.

We've said we won't go above 55m, but I imagine we will meet in the middle of a round 60 ish.

I feel also this deal all depends on if Pogba will stay or go. Some tough decisions ahead for Ole to get right.

Thanks for sharing this information. I think 60m should be a fair fee in this market. Agree with your part in bold. Interesting times ahead.

I’m not sure how much of this is ole’s decisions. no one has been sold and only 2 have come in, with only one of which who ready for the first team.

Arguably Herrera leavingputs us in an even worse situation too.

Woody effectively vetoed Jose in the transfer market let’s not forget. And that was Jose - one of the most successful managers of all time. feel his is doing the same again here and ole will be responsible for his failings.

Edit - to say that I’m not a Jose supporter, just stating a fact

We need a decent creative/attaching midfielder regardless if Pogs stays or not -- unless we are seriously short of cash. He Pog goes, then we may need another.

Yeah, I think Savic is the Pogba replacement if he goes. Bruno will come anyway IMO.

That's completely different. Woodward and Jose fell out, they didn't agree on the players. Jose wanted older players, Woodward didn't especially for their price.

Ed is still in the "preparing to consider" stage, I see.

We are only buying this guy (or Savic) if someone gives us what we want for Pogba. This is not an additional transfer.

Why is this so difficult to grasp for so many people? We won't be buying him and keeping Pogba to play together. Absolutely no chance of that happening.

If I remember correctly, Jose said he was satisfied with the first summer, said he was satisfied after the second summer, and the third summer he threw his strops out of the pram and into the loo, to coin a phrase.

I’m more expecting Woody to deliver something similar to the first two summers than the last, and as with nearly all transfer windows, we’ll know in August, not in July. There is a reason this season is called ‘silly’.

You have no evidence to back that up, by all accounts it’s probably sporting asking for more after the Joao felix deal.
Only a crazy mind would give more than 40/50 ME for a player that's in a team that needs money desperately. It's a time game. Time is in favour of the buyers, in this case.

Why not? And if it’s Pogba, Bruno Fernandes or Savic in the most advanced midfield position, who is occupying the other two places?

Because...

a) they can't play in a 3. Pogba is a total liability in a 3 unless the other two players are defensive minded which Bruno is not. He's more like a 10. We'd get murdered with Bruno and Pogba together.

b) I don't think we have as much money to spend as some fans like to believe. I don't think there's enough money in the coffers to buy a top CB and CM without selling a big player. Pogba or Lukaku remain likely to leave.

a) Bruno was playing at RCM for Portugal in the UEFA Nations League and had a solid campaign think he'd fit in well
b) We've spent over £60m on two players and recently made a huge bid for Maguire the money is there likely a matter of overpricing than lack of funds

The silliest club on the planet has knocked out transfer after transfer in swift, efficient fashion. Madrid.

The feck are you doing defending Woodward here? Ole asked for everything done by the tour. Even before his full appointment, he said the club had targets and were making strategic moves. He was hired preemptively and had furthermore time to sign off on players well before the season end.

Yet here we are in the same summer head bashing exercise of not getting transfers completed

I'm really of the belief now that Bruno is seen as a Pogba replacement and not an enhancement, which is why we are dragging our feet.

Presumably if Pogba stays, we'd be looking at a more defence minded MF...?

Would like to see Bruno and a defensive midfielder come in. But wise Woody might decide otherwise and that we are ok in this areas.

Agree with you post especially the part in the bold. This really pisses me off. I was very optimistic when Ole said he wanted all transfer business done by the tour, looks like Woody screwed him over. Woody should have got them all in by the tour so Ole could get them used to his methods and integrate them into the squad, to give Ole a greater chance of succeeding here. Just hoping we get a few transfers done as there is time yet bin the window, not an ideal scenario but I just hope Woody doesn't feck us over anymore by the end of the window.

So you have evidence then. Let us all in on your positive information
That’s not really how it works. You can’t make baseless claim and then pull the old “prove I’m wrong” when I call you out on it.

If he is a Pogba replacement why wouldn’t we just buy him first then sell Pogba?

For what it’s worth, if we are even after him, I do think we know Sporting need to sell and we know they don’t really want to have to give him the additional €5m.

Under the circumstances €40m is probably a fair price and we’ve probably told Ole we will bring him in but we’re not going to be ripped off.

What if Real doesnt want to pay up and we are stuck with Pogba and Bruno?
Although that might not be a bad plan, I cannot see Pogba being very motivated to play for us if he ends up staying.

Stuck with Pogba and Bruno? That would be even better surely? At least we would have two creative players behind the front players, instead of just Pogba?

This is dragging on since end of season, and we have supposedly offered just 31million ( 35million euro) which was his buyout clause, according to reports SSN, but not what the club want for him. Woodward is sticking to this clause even though club want 60/70 million for him. Many meetings with agent and Club have not resolved this as yet, but there has not been any higher offer from us so far.
This is all from the Transfer window SSN. Now if you have any further information to add to this, please feel free to let us know.

Am I defending Woodward? I’m not usually accused of that.

It’s good that Solskjær put some pressure on Woodward by saying he wanted transfers done by 1. july. I don’t think he or manyone else expected that to happen as such, as, Madrid notwithstanding, the normal for most clubs is and have always been for these things to take time.

If Solskjær haven’t got mostly what he’s asked for by 6th of August, he’s reason to be angry (and we too). Though I’m sure he’d prefer to have his top targets by PL start rather than his 2nd choices by preseason tour if that’s the choice.

I have argued for the removal of Woodgate from all things football, and for the Glazers out, but I won’t just use any stick to beat them with, and certainly nothing so ludicrous as to expect United to restrict themselves to a transfer window that is one or even two months shorter than anyone else.

I don't think it is insane figure at all considering Mings was sold for 26M and he probably would start in a club like Braga at best in Portugal and of course Felix went for "120M".

70M is very far for a player like Bruno in todays market.

35M is not his buyout clause I have explained it before.

He is the best player in the league by a long distance of course 40M would be a bad sell. Do we need to sell? yes but that does not mean we give the best player in the league away for free. He is worth minimum 60M and that is only because he is playing in Sporting and we are terrible at selling. Benfica would sell Bruno for 180M if he played for them and scored 34 goals and had 16 assists. Bruno is in a league of his own in Portugal.

a) History has proven otherwise - Pogba does not require two defensive players next to him in midfield. That’s actually not my point though. You are certainly entitled to that opinion and the desire to see two secure players alongside him in midfield is understandable, but we have lost a player, in Herrera, who could be considered a first choice option in midfield, and Pogba has been stationed deeper for United often enough. So the idea of bringing in a no.10 to replace Herrera with Pogba moving into the deeper role really isn’t nonsensical at all, even if it’s not what you want to see.

b) Similarly, just because that’s your opinion doesn’t mean it’s ridiculous to think that United do, in fact, have that kind of money. Your opinion on this seems a bit baseless actually.

There is a lot of confusion around the release clause. The best I can divine from the various comments is that there is release clause which has been variously reported at either 65m or 100m but there is also another clause which is not a release but a player clause which says that if the club receives a bid of 35m or more and refuses to sell they have to give the player 5m.

The best information we have is that United have not made a formal bid yet but are discussing an offer which would exceed the 35m but would fall well short of the 65m the club seems to want. Supposedly we are not interested in bidding much above 40m and feel we can use this weird clause in his contract as leverage to make Sporting lower their demands whilst they are constantly leaking rumours of interest to the press in an attempt to trigger a bidding war which does not seem to exist.

This is definitely one of the more bizarre transfer sagas out there right now and I honestly have no idea if we are seriously interested or not.
You were pretty much correct with the clause. His release clause is 100M BUT there is a player clause put forward by his agent after he terminated his contract that is 35M if a team offers that or above and Sporting reject It they must pay the player 5M. This can only be activated once.

Sporting also have said they have no problem in improving his salary by a substantial margin if he happens to stay.
