Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

That wouldn't surprise me at all. He's weak on the ball which is why I said months ago I wouldn't want him. City want CMs who can resist pressing opposition and this guy isn't good at shielding the ball.

I noticed that too. In most YouTube clips, he has ample of space around him. He ll have less space in PL for sure.

I think if we get him he will play in the midfield 3. I don't think Ole would want to use a diamond in the long term. He does enough defensive work to help out in that aspect too.

Liverpool are an exception to the rule. Klopp's entire ethos eliminates the need for having specialised midfielders who can control. I don't see Ole having the kind of impact on the collective to be able mitigate a not so special midfield as Klopp has done. We need to be realistic.

PSG away was just a smash and grab.

No offense but that line of yours - "doesn't matter how much you control the game as long as you score", for me, typifies what's wrong with United these days. Were always looking at winning/winners/goals/ambition/making statements without figuring out and focusing on the process that goes on to achieve it. You can addd all the goalscorers possible but the team will not reach the level we want it to unless the buildup and cohesion is at a high level. That generally comes with A) good coaching and B) players who contribute to the buildup. Not saying this chap can't do it, but I'd like these things to be emphasized and priorities rather than an afterthought.
We controlled most of the games that we lost last season though. Either through inompetence in the back, or the frontline shooting blank.

Thus I think a playmaker isn't as urgent as a midfielder that can protect defence, or upgrading our attack.

yet look at ajax. Not a big team yet cultivate players that can play all over the pitch. This mindset of getting players that can score goals is pointless since against the top sides we will hardly get any chance. psg was a fluke and shouldn't be used as an example. More times the dominant teams win and that is what we should strive for. ofcourse there are always the lucky wins(psg away) but thats not how you win championships.

Spurs solved it by just bypassing their midfield and went route one, just like us in EC Final in the past against Ajax. Also it seems like Ole likes us as counter attacking team. We need much better in attack to do this.

But agreed that controlling the game is important.

I think Spurs have a long, drawn-out Eriksen to Madrid saga on their hands and they'll weaken their position quite significantly by getting Fernandes now.

If he's going to come to us, I think it happens in a matter of days. If we're met with silence on this sage over the next week, it'll give me the impression that he's waiting for Spurs.

How do you know what type of player we are looking for?
Meant that hes not the type of player that we should be looking for. Hes a #10 who puts up good numbers but isn't this exceptional player from a technical point of view. He's good, but I just think we need the all round midfielder and the defensive midfielder rather than an attacking mid. It just wont be well balanced with him next to Pogba.

Neither. Only way they would fit into the team is if Pogba is sold, which we should only consider next season. There are better options available if we are going to find someone to control our attacking play.

They are great setpiece takers though, something that we need.
Who would you like to bring in?

Could we play him and Pogba together? I've read he puts a shift in going back.

---Fernandes-Pogba---

What about that?

Really haven't seen this guy enough but if the concensus is that he shields the ball poorly, he's literally the Portuguese version of Fred.

The good thing with Fred is that he's a genuine midfielder, what is Fernandez position he's supposedly a 10 with a high work rate to track back ? If we are looking for a Herrera replacement / someone in the right hand side of the midfield Rabiot / Ndombele would be the most logical choices.

If Eriksen leaves - which is still quite a big IF at this stage - I think Spurs have other players in mind to replace him.
Do you reckon the interest in that Lo Celso guy still exists? Seems to have gone quiet.

I still feel like its far from a given that Madrid will come in for Eriksen and that he'll stay if they don't.

Why's that?
Because I don't believe he's good enough for us. He is a fantastic striker off the ball, but the rest of his game isn't of the required standard. We need someone who is better at controlling the game from deeper in the #6 or #8 positions. We also have Pogba who is much more talented than Fernandes, so him coming to us doesn't make any sense.

Pogba is still an unfinished story. He wants to leave but the club is rightly not going to give him away for cash and washed up players or players we don't want.
If he stays and the team is built around him, and we have a solid season, things may change.

Doesn't it? Pogba had to play way too many games last season. Would be nice if we had a player to rotate with him. If Pogba picks up an injury we're in trouble.

He’s a final third merchant. Gylfi Sigurdsson with juiced stats.

if he is weak, they wouldnt even have a first thought though...

Either will fit in with Pogba fine with a decent DM and back line.

Kai Havertz should be a priority, even if it means over spending to get him.

If it’s true he’s not very press-resistant, we should look elsewhere. Time to really lay a foundation. Have to say, all the focus on City players fitness forgets the point that they control over 60% of the possession in 95% of games (rough estimate, before it gets pulled up by the first pedantic poster), so they can actually take a rest while in possession.

Not obsessed by possession by the way, but football has changed, and it’s time we move with the times.

Too bad we just hired a manager who is allergic to possession

Make up sometime, repeat it enough times and then pass it off as a fact.

We had more possession against most teams. Only teams who shouldn't have dominated possession against us was West Ham, Watford and Reading.

Lo Celso - yes, I think Spurs are definitely interested, but who knows at what stage things are. SSN have said he wants to come to Spurs and the BBC reported that we offered £53m for him, but that was nearly 2 weeks ago.

I agree about Eriksen - and I'm not sure where RM are going to find the money, since they've already spent a lot.

Thing with German talents is they want to go to Bayern or Dortmund
Havertz is at Leverkusen under the guise of Rudi Voller, so i'm optimistic he will do his utmost to sell him anywhere but Bayern. I'm not sure Dortmund would pay the asking price either so we might have a outside chance. But it seems like he will stay at Leverkusen for another season.

But I do agree we need someone other than Pogba to create for us. A creative #8 would be my preference.

Why would City want him. See thousands reports of them wanting/not wanting him...

Don't see him breaking in that team.

United/Spurs is much more viable option for him.

What we need in my opinion is someone who can do what Matic does but also offer a creative outfield ball. I also think we can make do with McT and Pereira replacing Herrera. I have no idea who would fit that role but I think we've missed Carrick and Scholes quite a lot.
