Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

What makes you so confident that the Dybala deal will get done, personally I am concerned how we are going to get round this issue of him not wanting a 25% salary cut if we miss out on qualifying for the champions league. The other thing to worry about is whether we are willing to meet the agents commission figure as well

Because the dybala noise from credible sources is exactly the same as we hear before these kinds of signings. "Oh it's all about the image rights...what about this clause and that clause." When we get to that point, the deals are done 99.99% of the time.

This time we have even more credibility because every journo worth a read has said the clubs have agreed, Juve want him gone, Lukaku has got his terms sorted.

Dybala will join even if it's short term. He doesn't want to ride a bench for a season and considering Sarri has allegedly told him to get the feck out, it's all in our favour. The only way we don't get Dybala with this much evidence is simply if he said no from the first meeting between MUFC and the agent. If everything after that has been lies, we'll find out. However no one is saying that happened.

I do! I think it’s actually necessary. If if if and I really say if Pogba gets injured we don’t have Herrera to start. It ll be either Peirrera or Fred to start alongside Matic or McTominay. That doesn’t give me confidence. We need someone like Bruno who can cover that #8 spot if Pogba is out even though he is primarily an advanced playmaker.
100%. It’s a terrifying thought when Pogba gets injured. I just really can’t see Ed dropping 200m :nervous:

You make some very valid points in this post, however it's worth remembering that the loss of 25% due to no champions league applies to all squad members

So if you were the Utd negotiating team how would you get round that problem without upsetting the squad but still getting Dybala.

What makes you so sure he will be joining Utd after the Super Cup final on Sunday when it has been all pointing towards Spurs these past couple of days.

I noticed you mention in another post that the three Portuguese newspapers are unreliable sources, so who would you say is the best source for Sporting Lisbon news then.

Even though I don't think they are the most reliable realistically they are the only source when it comes to Portuguese football so if anything the most reliable sources are probably ones from other countries and newspapers.

With that being said O Jogo is probably the most reliable of the 3.

As for why I think United is because there has been too much smoke and I don't believe that United are not interested. I believe they are trying to get the cheapest deal possible to take advantage but Sporting are not budging.

If he is a 10, surely he is a no-go if Dybala is joining United.
I think so too. it does not make sense in my opinion.

If United sign Dybala then Fernandes deal is off.

Abola newspaper reporting front page that Sporting president and Bruno Fernandes have a gentlemen's agreement to allow him to leave AFTER the Supercup game vs Benfica.

by either upping the wage or adding bonuses to keep reduction in place, or you remove the reduction and seek a lower wage.

However, because this is a Bruno thread, i don't want to veer wildly off topic. If you look at how Maguire and Dybala news has progressed, nothing is even close to that from a Bruno perspective. Sporting are revving up the local press to creat an auction. The last time we got a "Tier 1" update on Bruno, it was Simon Stone suggesting that MUFC are irritated by the ongoing links to Bruno.

Nothing like that has been said about AWB/James/Maguire/Dybala. At best, our links to Bruno have have been "whom shall we look at if we are forced to sell pogba". But beyond that, it's ALL Portuguese press white noise. Bruno and Sporting have been "expecting our offer" for close to a month now.

I disagree. I think we can fit both in the lineup.
It is not about them not fitting together but rather I don't see United spending over 100M on both along with the Maguire deal.

Nothing to do with them not being able to play together in my opinion.

On Monday we got DiMarzio confirming we were one step away from signing and then on Tuesday the Dybala bombshell dropped.

Ah fair enough. I think we need to spend and get Bruno also even if it takes our spending to 200m.

When we eventually sell Pogba (probably within the next 2 years) we are not going to use all of the money. That’s what will happen. We also only spent 50 million net last season.

Nah, I think he will replace Herrera. We will get destroyed in the midfield with pogba forced to play in a two. We need a 3 man midfield.

Fair enough. What I will say though is it feels like for the first time since Fergie it LOOKS like there is a plan and that there is something being built. Even if you lot dont win the season next year, if you can play a young dynamic attacking/counter attacking team and build from their those are positives to take.

Agreed. That’s why it’s vital to spend now to get Bruno. He offers something different to the players we have so he will definitely improve us. Right now no one else is real competition. So even if he is not sold this month, 6-12 months from now there will be more suitors.

Judging from what has happened in pre-season, Ole wants Pogba to play deeper in a midfield 2, dictating play from deep where he has more time on the ball and taking turns with his midfield partner to push up to support the attack. The whole team seems more fluid now, with less fixed instructions and more communication during the game itself. I don't remember any of the pre-season games when we had just 1 sitting midfielder to mop up the play, relying more on the 2 CMs and the rest of the team taking on their own defensive responsibilities. So I can see Pogba and Mctominay as our 2 CMs, with Bruno in front of them pulling the strings and helping to cover the space and press when possession is lost.

Only Pogba, matic, mctominay, pierera travelled as midfielders in preseason, Fred joined late because of his wedding. What options did he have then to play a 2 man midfield.

I see what you mean, but he could easily have tried to play 3 in midfield at times, since we also had Garner. The fact that we are not actively pursuing a DM and are focusing on more attacking options like Bruno and Dybala shows that we might see a move away from the previous tactics of always having a DM to screen the defense. With Lindelof and Maguire, we do not need someone to drop near the CBs just to build up play since both of them are more than able to start attacks from deep with a long ball or bring the ball up on their own. A CM pairing who operate more in the central third of the pitch also means more mobility and passing options. I think we will do fine defensively in 90% of the games, and in games where we absolutely want to be more cautious and pack the midfield, we might see a change to a 433 with one of the CMs like Matic, Mctominay or Fred assigned to sit deep and help out the defence.

Offer him a huge annual bonus for us making the Champions league.

Not sure how reliable but that billionaire Zoo guy posted on Instagram that Bruno will have medical on Aug 5th and he posted this in July first week. Now many other journalists are reporting same thing.

Sigh... No one really does transfer saga like United. Other clubs just sign. We seem to enjoy the drama more than anything else. It's exhausting!
The media coverage is simply more baby. Here in malaysia, even in rural areas people already calling maguire the mcguyver. We are simply that huge.

If someone else takes him we'll be the laughing stock!
We sign him for a decent fee we will be laughing stock. They will say he is PL unproven.
We sign him for a record fee.. They will laugh at us.
We don't sign him.. They will still laugh at us.

People and media is obsessed with us no matter what. Comes with being the brand either loved or hated. No in betweens.

Fred is a better player than Herrera. More mobile and better passing range

I have to disagree, Fred's passing is abysmal and Herrera is clearly the better player.

I wouldn't say Fred's passing is his biggest problem. I would rather say that Fred's biggest problem is that he operates with zero margin for error. He tries to turn players in dangerous areas, and 4 times out of 5 it Works nicely. The 5th, we have a problem. In addition he waits until the last second before releasing the ball. Pogba has a bit of the same problem, but not halfway as bad as Fred. Same here, 4 times out of 5 it Works out nicely, and the 5th we have a counter against. Fred is not a bad player - but he is a player you can't really trust.

For those who remember Roy Keane playing - he was the exact opposite. He never lost the ball in those areas simply because if he wasn't 100% certain that he had time on the ball - he would release it immediately to avoid being robbed. As a footballer (rather than motivator) - that was perhaps Keane's biggest strength.

Fred should never, ever play as a defensive midfielder simply because of this. He will cost us goals.

Lads and lasses, please forgive my lack of knowledge, but I have got a couple of possibly stupid questions regarding Bruno's potential transfer to United:
1. How reliable are the sources that talk about his transfer to United?
2. Should we assume that Bruno will be signed only if Paul is sold?

2. Not sure, noone really knows

I won't claim ive3seen Bruno play lots of times. Only a couple of times for Portugal this summer, the Sporting friendly against Valencia and the customary YouTube videos. To me, he looks decent. Not too sure what position he'd play for us, but he looks good.

One thing that has been nagging me all summer is though, how come none of the other top clubs gone in for him? I can understand Barca, but City were loosely linked, no Real Madrid links, none of the Italians etc.

Madrid have been linked to him

How does it matter anyway...How many clubs were linked to Salah, VVD? Why weren't the Spanish and Italian teams linked to Bernardo, De Bruyne before they were bought... It's not an indication of the quality of a player

If the reports are to be believed that we had this deal wrapped up a while ago then this would explain why there hasn't been any strong links with other clubs and I guess we will find out on the 5th

I highly doubt this deal is even a thing.

No it doesn't truly matter. But what's concerning is, his agent has literally been touting him around with no luck. So bad it's been, they've now got Uncle Jorge Mendes on the case now.

Ps, loads were after VVD!

Do you think we have unlimited amounts of cash? I think expecting Maguire, Dybala plus another midfielder is extremely optimistic. Assuming Lukaku leaves and and we spend about 60m on the CM that equates to roughly £200m NET being spent by us. I can't see it personally.
Look, Ole said we need a midfielder several times in his press conferance. Herrera needs replacing, and if we were to have injuries in this department, we are in trouble.

£200m net without CL money to help fund it?Highly unlikely.

It will be Lukaku out and either Bruno or Dybala in. If Pogba leaves (doesn't look likely at all anymore) then we may get both.

No way were we going to solve every single problem area in one summer.

Why? We have so many revenue streams outside of Champions League money. Ed is a commercial beast.

And let's not forget he tapered his spending last season somewhat since he didn't trust Jose.
