Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

True, but there are a few examples of successfull players to. Like Fernandinho, Douglas Costa and Willian. Zinchenko also played youth football at Shaktar.
No I know there have been some. But just not to the degree and volume that the Portuguese league and Ligue 1 provide to the bigger Leagues.

As you stated most come or came from Shaktar as they are a big attraction to Brazilians who want to make that jump into Europe.

I agree with that. Regarding Bruno, I think he would fit Ole’s system perfectly, but it seems like Longstaff is the more wanted player by United..

Yeah it is certainly starting to look that way,all of the Fernandes stuff is coming from Portuguese sources not British ones.

"It's the president who decides that, not me. I don't really care about the market, I've already talked about it. The only thing I can say is that I need to get to the plane, so I dont miss it. If this is going to be my last match for Sporting? I don't know, it's the manager who decides that. I've already said that I'd like to play in England, but that's not what I care about right now, it can be when the club decides to."

Personally I don't like players downing their tools to force a move aka Barca's modus operandi, and both Maguire and Bruno are being professional to their current club amidst our interest. It certainly makes it a lot harder to sign them though.

I want Bruno however im unsure about his role in our team. Would he take Herrera's role in the team or would his arrival mean that pogba would be subjected to Herrera's role? He looks really talented, but hes in a Portuguese league. Can someone who watches him regularly please reply.

As much as I would have initially liked really this transfer to go through I am now in two minds. Just in case it effects Gomes time at the club from what I've seen and what I've read from posters on here who 'actually' know his attributes well I think he would be a good signing.

The only way I would want it to go through is if it doesn't affect the amount of minutes Gomes gets. As I feel as if he doesn't feel appreciated enough he will leave for Barca in a free next year when his contract expires. Catastrophic mistake by Woody letting his contract run down this far but it is what it is and I think it would really come back to bite us on the ar$e if we left him go.

Hopefully Ole can sign Fernandes and also find a way of giving Gomes adequate playing time.

Terrible idea. The guy is ready for our first team. No deal, he stays. Regards, Ole.
I actually think its not a bad deal. He gets constant first team experience and European experience and then you take him back when he's all polished up:D

I’m calling it. Don’t think this is happening now. There’s been too little concrete interest.

I've never felt there was any serious interest in Bruno, which is a concern in many ways, as we continually hear about "Building the team around Pogba" but there's been precious little evidence of that happening.

Just about sick listening to Fernandes and Maguire names, all day every day for the past 2 months.

Think you may be right. If there was anything in it I think we may have heard something from a reliablish source, when it seems as if all the noise seems to be coming from Portuguese news outlets.

Exactly, I do believe Sporting are simply trying to flog him at his peak to generate as much money as possible and so are using the media to generate interest.

He’s a very good player but I feel if we were genuinely going for him it would have happened by now.

Agreed, I would still love to see him arrive so that Lingard isn’t considered the best CAM option because he can run but with the promotion of Gomes and potentially Garner I’m not sure if much more will happen.

I think we’ll blow a wad on Maguire and that will be that unless Lukaku is sold.

This is getting boring . We are obviously not interested or we are waiting till very late to get him at as low a price as possible . I think it's a little worrying we haven't replaced Herrera or Fellani and Matic is Ageing and Fred has yet to impress. Cant wait till football is back and the transfer window is closed.

At this point I really wish we did what other clubs do if they're not interested in a player and make a statement, I am tired of this story.

Pretty sure we are interested in Fernandes (and obviously Maguire) though - so the club wouldn't do that in this case.

Didn't we come out and say that we weren't interested in Lemina the day after that news broke?

Anyway, let's be honest, it feels that we are still in a constant state of negotiation, which may or may not help us save a few million here and there. I don't think the likes of Woodward necessarily care at this point as to whether or not Judas from RedCafe is tired of hearing the same news over and over again. I wish we had all of our transfers complete before pre-season started, but what can we do?

This is the major concern, the 2 senior MFs that Ole has been suggesting since last season haven't materialised, then we have Matic & Mata both in steep decline, Fred who has flopped, Perreria & McT....
FFS it's impossible to be optimistic about that...!!

Still not sure this will go through, the AM position seems well stocked, and I really feel that Gomes could make that position his own by the end of season, if we need a Pogba replacement, then this guy, to me, is not a direct replacement, someone like Maddison would fit the bill as far as I'm concerned (or Fred if he settled down). Garner, I think, will slot in as a DM initially, but could become a b to b midfielder.

I just don't see where we fit him in if we keep Pogba. We don't really have the type of player that would compliment Pogba in a 2.

I'd bring him in. Pogba is gone this summer or next anyway

I think Ole sees Longstaff filling the role next to Pogba. He has a really good engine apparently.

It's just the same old rubbish getting recycled.

I kinda want a DM more than Bruno. Matic is just not good enough to be our starter DM, and we have the likes of Pogba, Fred, Pereira, McTominay, Gomes and Mata to be our 8s or 10s.

-----DM--McTominay/Fred
------Pogba

Is a decent midfield. Much more balanced than :

---Pogba--Matic
-------Bruno

We aren't using a 4-3-3 this year if pre season has anything to go by. It's been 4-2-3-1 every match so far.

He's a Pogba replacement, surely.

We'd still need a #6 and a #8, whether we keep Pogba or replace him with Fernandes. Our current midfield options are dreadful.

This would only make sense if he plays as an 8 for us, a bit behind Pogba so to say. Not sure if he can do it, i was of the impression he was more of a CM/AM hybrid himself, so the Pogba position. I dont hope we buy him and stick him to the 8 position hoping he performs there just to experiment.

Spurs match will be a good test, whether we can play 4-2-3-1 against very strong team, especially with Pogba in the 2.

My feeling is that Bruno Fernandes is Gaitan 2.0.

I always get the feeling with Portuguese clubs... and maybe Sporting in particular that these rumours fly around in the hope of drumming up interest so they can get a nice big fee for one of their players that they would actually be happy to sell. I am not sure United are even interested.

I remember all the rumours surrounding William Carvalho and Man Utd a few years back and obviously we weren't interested or we could have easily bought him.

I'm not sure both teams will be using full strength but yes it'll be a good test to work on the press.

Our defence will certainly have a much tougher time against Kane/Moura/Son also. Looking forwad to AWB against Son!

Thanks for sharing :)Finally I thought I was about to hear something concrete from a decent news outlet. Although this comes from Skysports, which I used to have a lot of respect for, lately I hold them nowhere near as highly, for it just says "Sky Sports Understands" which to me suggests that it could be made up which I think it is. Or that they have a good source who's identity they don't want to reveal.

It's easy for any outlet to say "x outlet 'understands' without quoting the source, that Manchester united are interested in "player a,b or c". Although he says he wants to play in England, it mentions nothing about this happening immediately. I think a key point from the article is when he says "If it could be this season? It could be when the club decides, I'm not in charge.". So personally I wouldn't take too much from the story.
