probably just guessing like 99% of these twitter journos

didn't he say the deal would be done Saturday night?

What BBC reports? If it’s just the gossip page, then that’s just a round up of all the newspapers, and is worthless nonsense. I’ve not seen anything that yet BBC have actually reported, unless I’ve missed it?

The best I can offer you in regards to that was Stone confirming our interest in a radio interview on Fri,however it is definitely still got a feeling of last summer with how quiet it has now gone

throw in Bailly as well and it would be the deal of the century. Although I presume we would also have to pay for a bigger treatment room at their training ground.
Bailly is available on a free in the summer.

It’s strange that Rojo has been playing ok (for Rojo) This season when he’s been fit. But is another player who is always injured so probably better of food getting rid. Throw in Lingard for making us wait until January to sign him as punishment .

Looks like this is getting done and should be a decent signing. You have to wonder why we didn’t release Mata in the summer (saving 160k per week) and sign him months ago though.

Who’s says Mata Is on 160 a week ? I find it hard to believe we offered that knowing he would be a squad player.

A Portuguese journalist with twitter handle _GoncaloLopes mentioned that the deal should be done tomorrow. Sporting deciding who take take on loan. Not sure if he is any realiabe but he is followed by Simon Stone.

Thats the reported figure going around, not sure how accurate it is but it’s not surprising given we’re one of the highest wage bills in Europe.

Sporting have been linked to Andraz Sporar from ŠK Slovan Bratislava in Slovenia. If they are tight on cash, I don't see them spending money unless they know money is coming in.

Im watching this guy on youtube and Ive got to be honest he seems like he takes way too many touches before releasing the ball. That would lead to lots of dispossession here putting us under pressure on the counter. I do like the fact that he can shoot and is a good setpiece taker.

Im thinking he might need to get adjusted to the league similarly to Fred. I wonder what the chances are he hits the ground running?

Hopeful but I doubt this will be done in the next two days. It’s got all the hallmarks for another let down.

Possibly. He did seem to handle Barcas press pretty easily in this game.

I'm getting excited about this one.

We've needed a player like this for so long. Somebody with the quality and confidence to play through teams. Rashford and Martial will love playing with him if he signs because he will be constantly looking for their runs and not just passing it sideways like all our other midfielders (other than Pogba) He's like a turbo charged version of what Mata was supposed to be.

Add the obvious goal threat and bags of stamina and we should be onto a winner here. I just hope something is actually happening and I'm not just getting excited over nothing. Again.

There has never been an example at United where a player comes in in mid-season and kick on. They will be spotty at best and then really start to kick on only after a summer.

But this summer is bad since most of our quality players will be away for the Euros. So, I imagine him to have some major, consistent impact only after 18months ie after the 2nd summer.

We are where we are at.

We need warm creative, attacking midfield bodies.

Fernandes is highest rated player in Portugal this season and was last season too.
Ziyech ditto in Holland.

I hope we sign both of them. Not just because of the creativity and goals and entertainment they would provide but because both have good defensive work rate as well.

At International level, Bruno Fernandes has 2 goals and 3 assists in 1048 mins (12 starts 7 sub) - That's a goal or assist every 210 mins approx. He has played against: Spain, Netherlands (2), Scotland, Luxembourg (2), Lithuania (2), Algeria, Switzerland, Serbia (info from Transfermarkt https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bruno-fernandes/nationalmannschaft/spieler/240306/verein_id/3300 )

Jesse Lingard has 4 goals and 3 assists in 1484 mins (14 starts 10 sub) - A goal or assist every 212 mins. He has played against: Spain (2), Netherlands (2), Croatia, Italy, Nigeria, Slovenia, Malta, Sweden, Colombia, Panama, Tunisia.

Lingard is currently a completely useless PL player. Bruno Fernandes is an outstanding player in a weak domestic league with tons of teams that are somewhere between lower Championship and top of League One level, packed full of free transfers and loan players (see Transfermarkt for incoming transfers of relevant clubs).

When Fernandes played in Serie A, he didn't seem remotely special. Sampdoria sold him for less than £9m, in the summer of 2017. He started 79 matches in Serie A, scoring 15 goals with 14 assists (he took 2 pens, scoring one, direct free-kicks, indirect free-kicks and corners). His shot map for his last 3 seasons in Serie A is towards the bottom of https://understat.com/player/1228 - 4 goals from outside the box, 26 shots saved from outside the box, hit the woodwork once from outside the area, 52 off-target shots from outside the area, 24 blocked shots from outside the area. So it took over 100 shots from outside the area to get 4 goals in Serie A. If anything, PL keepers are likely to be superior to those in Serie A. Spectacular goals in Liga NOS might simply result in a PL keeper conceding a corner.

If you look at Lingard's productivity in CL, PL, Europa League and domestic Cup competitions during his time at United, you will find that his output is noticeably better in the Europa League compared to CL and domestic Cup competitions relative to the PL. Even when he has been struggling to have an impact in PL matches, he has been able to get goals and/or assists in domestic Cup games. Drop down a level and it is easier to score and assist.

The fees being mentioned are absolutely ridiculous. There is a serious risk that Fernandes hasn't changed that much from his time in Serie A. At Sporting he takes on huge responsibility. At United he would be expected to be a team player. He will only take direct free-kicks and penalties if he is the best at them in training, and even then it might take him a while to be given the opportunity. He is not the main man for Portugal and his productivity reflects that.

This should be a modest fee, modest wages deal, or else let another club take the risk. United have a limited amount of money to spend. We need to spend it wisely. Being a better player than the current Lingard or Mata, is not a sensible justification for using £50m, possibly more.

This has quite a few points that can easily be refuted.

1. International Record: who did they assist or score against? Were they meaningless goals/assists? Lingard also has not scored for England in 2019.

2. Bruno's Serie A record: How old was he when he was playing for Sampdoria? How can you compare his stats from 3/4 years ago to now when he is in his prime?

3. Reactions to facing setbacks: Bruno is the capt of a currently terrible Sporting team and has been carrying them for 3 seasons. What has Lingard ever "carried" in his career? And to maintain his standards instead of sulking speaks volumes of his understanding of responsibilities and positive character.

There are others but I will just highlight these 3. I can't see how anyone can think that Bruno is not a big upgrade over Lingard.

Bruno is clearly a completely different performer at Sporting than he was in Serie A. Players hit their prime at different times, it's weird you are hanging on to his level from a different stage of his career to extrapolate how he would do in the Premier League.

Also if I'm not mistaken Bruno has also been experimented wrongly out of position a few times in his international career.

Not watched any YouTube or seen him play in the flesh, so I going on what I read on here. I suspect we will get a less productive player than he currently is, but his numbers are impressive.
Tough league to move between so this season will be almost a right off for him I guess.
I cannot are how he will be less productive/effective than what we currently have though. We have cowards who are crying out for better service and if this cat provide we will improve massively.
Klopp seemed impressed with him pre-season too, so maybe we are getting a gem. Fingers crossed.

wish I didn't watch that.. pointless long range shots, poor passing, why would anyone make a player highlights out of this

It was every touch he had in the game. A lot of good play and a few few bad moments. Thought he looked very good in that game overall though.

Is this guy worth the prices quoted though? Probably not. But then we paid 50M for fred, and he was a meme until the past 3 months. Still hasn't justified his fee, but atleast he is showing signs that he can be a good midfielder.
I am just happy that we are linked with a midfielder. We badly need goals from midfield and this guy can do that. We can always buy other players in the summer. Anything to aid our quest for the CL spots/ gettiing into the CL is welcomed.

Not sure why youtube 'experts' are making pointless claims and predictions when they have not watched him much and the people that have watched him say that he would improve us a lot.

I am no expert on him, but he cannot be worse than what we have.

Some always have to be negative nancys

Nobody knows how it will turn out to be if he comes. He could flop or be a superstar. Goes for every signing we make. You can do your competent scouting and hope for the best

Hard to imagine him being worse than our current midfield players. I imagine him with Rashford and Martial being on a wavelength. Also could form an understanding with Fred hopefully.

Something not right in this list, I mean, Mctominay is the lowest paid player in the squad with merely 10k per week? How does this make any sense at all?
Mata's last crontract was 250k/week, so savings 100K/week is a good deal in Woodward's logic. McT still has a youth level contract, will get his 100kpw in the next signing.

At the end of the day, the number is depend on their agents.

If he was to get 5 assists and 5 goals in a season for us he would instantly be better than all 3 of Mata, Lingard, Pereira.

2 shots from him....Looked decent enough. Is this the "I want Grealish instead!!1!" brigade whinging in this thread?

The keeper caught both with absolutely zero effort, we're not applauding our players for that kind of shots. I'm in the unsure about Bruno's quality brigade, I hope he comes here and does brilliantly.
