If it's £46.6m with up to £10m in addons then we've done well to hold our nerve for 3 weeks considering reports were coming out of Portugal that they were demanding £65m + £15m addons.
Yep, pretty sure we never offered less than that initially. Sporting wanted a bit more, so we upped the bid in bonuses, to which they balked at for the last couple of days/week.

we should all be hoping the fee ends up being 80m tbh
Agreed, if he ends up costing us the full 80 million, it would be very worth it. But I see this more as a masterstroke from the negotiating team in terms of financial resasoning, basically getting him for around 60mil. But I feel this is also why the transfer took so long.

Sounds like we've done well in getting the price reduced.

In my opinion I think the total amount we could pay hasn't changed, but some negotiations have taken place which have allowed the base price to be a little under £50m and the rest paid in add-ons. If anything, it reduces the risk of the transfer if he flops, and if he does well, then everyone wins.

Why not? He’s been involved in 15 goals so far this season so even if we had 10 extra goals so far we’d be sat in 4th place now.

Going by that logic Rashford has been involved in 25 goals this season so we are already at a 10 goal deficit.

Hugely optimistic about this. Classy player, great shooting and creative passing. Huge engine. He will be such an upgrade on Andreas and Jesse.

If he helps us then great get him in. We obviously need a lot of changes elsewhere & he’ll be a good player for the next manager too.

I don’t know a lot about how good he is though so just hoping he has the talent & appetite to succeed here!

No...

When did you say that at all. You just said flat out their asking price is 80m, there wasn't any nuance I saw anyway.

Anyway, I care little for this, was just a harmless joke. Enjoy our new signing pal.

People like you got no clue at all. I’ll highlighted just for you ;)

The sport witness article that you posted is nothing but an article that try to make Ed or our club looks like the bad one here, the same goes to other article beside sport witness who also made an article to criticised Ed & Glazer for purpose to sell their story to viewers. I’m not defending them, I’m trying to tell you that Sporting also has good reasons to rise their price and not everything is Ed’s fault. What do we feckin know?

Your article has zero quote from the Sporting perspective that indicates what Sporting wants is 70m euro right now. The only quote in that article is that Sporting would accept 65m-70m euro last summer and if the 20m euro bonus from Spurs was reasonable, they would accept it.

However, that doesn’t mean Sporting can’t increase their price to 80m euro. Clubs tend to do this for many factors. One is because the transfer happens in January which the fees could get more expensive and another factor is to push the buyer to rise their offer to get closed to that 70m Euro. It’s common.

You care little for this now since it doesn’t suit what you had started? Alright mate, I get it.

I wonder if @Judas is still laughing

Deal done. Will fly to Manchester tommorow according to every major news outlet. 55M with add ons depending on reached objectives.

-number of games played
- CL qualification this season
- winning the EPL
- Winning the CL
- winning a balon d or

Only 2 of those are remotely real expectations so at max Sporting get 65M

Good business by United and excited to see him in England.

We did right to haggle because it seems like we've got him for significantly cheaper than the original asking price. £46.6m with £8.5m add ons is the total outlay. There's also €15m to SCP if the player wins the Balon D'or which takes the total outlay to €80m which will be figure used to appease the SCP fans.

Finally what a waste of weeks in negotiations though.

Hopefully all those previously declaring the club were right in their 40 mil valuation can enjoy the signing rather than moan. My guess is they'll praise the negotiations though.

Ive stayed away from this for so long but muppets it’s finally time to assemble. Fabrizio has already given the signal!

Was the 65 + 15 pounds or euros?

Sorry mate, but no same human can believe the Barca links were genuine, or that it forced our hand in a matter of hours. If anything, it shows all the people that were losing their shit that they were right to haggle. Those people that just say pay up are usually the ones who like to quote how much money we've wasted on Maguire, Fred etc.
They were right to haggle? What did we actually gain? We just lost a month and paid the same price by the looks of it. And the Barca links coincident with this "breakthrough". The club should have sealed this transfer back in December. We paid 80 fecking millions for Maguire, the same price that was quoted in the start of the transfer saga. For Fred, nobody else in their right mind would have paid 50m. This gets into the line of shambolic transfer dealings, conducted by total amateurs.

Yeah. Pain in the bum to wait for it. But, at the end of the day, United are paying (probably) less than had they done the deal earlier in the month....and a good bit of business for the supposed quality player we are getting in their prime.

Credit to Duncan Castles for being way ahead of most when it came to this potential transfer.

Great timing from Woody, get him signed the same day we get smashed by City. They'll probably hold off the announcement till after the game as well

Isn't there some rule in the Portuguese league that you have to publish full details of the fee publicly?

I seem to remember when we signed Rojo they put out a press release detailing all elements of the deal unlike in the PL where it's normally 'undisclosed'.

Hopefully we see that soon...

Why are all our transfer business/dealings played out in the press? Seriously, I know the tabloids make up stories to sell papers but every stage of our negotiations with any player are now played out in the media. Crazy. Get the business done then make public.

IF this was happening why didn't it happen 28 days ago?

Look at me boss I saved 10 million pounds. Sorry i fecked up the top 4 chance and the caribo cup.

You next Bellingham!

We have a bunch of novices running the club. Decided Maguire wasn't good enough one season and then proceeded to buy him the next. Decided against Bruno this summer and go on and buy him in the next window itself. What changed in that time apart from us getting more desperate? This board never thinks proactively, always playing catch up.
