Quite frankly it's not some outlandish logics behind it from their side. It's the January window so the prices are always gonna be fecked up, we've had our chance to sign him up in the summer but we've, allegedly, decided to go against it due to his shit passing (
) so I presume this adds to the price as well.I've already said it but it reeks of the same type of incompetence we've already shown when buying Maguire a season later for additional 20 or so. Same shit is happening here. Problem is, we don't buy him now, it's going to be even harder in the summer because of Euro. So many factors might come in: lack of time, no negotiations during the Euro, player going on vacay after the Euro, him being a superstar bumping his price and attracting other clubs' interest, some other players that play for Sporting getting sold so they're not so desperate to sell Bruno and can feck around with the price and when to sell him, etc., etc.
It's going to be a fecking long ass summer and we should prepare for helluva shit excuses.

Seems to me it's because we have money but put all our eggs into one basket transfer target, we seem to only negotiate for one player at a time during the transfer window only and we've allowed ourselves to decline as a team and trimmed our squad so much that we are desperate for new players mid season.
Basically shit planning and management from Ed and the gang create more urgency for us that other teams take advantage of.

I dont see it this way. Plans are always there but sometimes they don’t work as planned: eg our Mourinho plan didn’t work so we now have to pivot.
Once we committed to OGS, it was crystal clear to all concerned that a massive clear out was necessary. And given how advanced City and Liverpool were, there was no way we’d challenge this season.
So board have planes this season as a write off and using it as the ‘cultural reboot’ that has has been talked about.

Bigger and supposedly better players than him have arrived at United, and been a massive disappointment
It happens at other clubs, but as United fans, we notice it more when they fail at Old Trafford.
In recent years the gut feeling is we have brought in some overpriced average players, on long contracts, and
wages that seem disproportionate to their ability, ( that sentiment applies to contract renewals as well )
But I bet fans at other clubs think the same about some of their players as well.
The team and especially the midfield needs to be improved, I think he will do that, ( not really that difficult )
Is the higher cost worth it, no one really knows until he has been playing at OT for a while.
At Liverpool, everyone agreed VVD was a great defender, but I seem to recall, many thought they had paid too much, I bet they don't think that now.
Big teams are full of players brought in, that have flourished at a higher level when given the chance, at the same time the reserves are full of players that did not warrant the price and the hype.
SAF bought his fair share of Duds, but in the last few years, It feels like United to have almost cornered the market in unsuitable, overpriced underperforming players. looking for a good payday, as a result, there is more caution and scepticism than in the past.
It's not the manager(s) it happened under different managers since SAF has left.
It's impossible to know, for the older ones, I thought Birtles, Veron and much more recently I thought Delemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Di Maria, Sanchez, Falcao would all help United achieve bigger things. ( sure the list is bigger than That )

4. Both teams (mostly United) cave and the player signs.

There still haven’t been many 100m transfers. Clubs don’t have to sell any more. This is why the Eriksen situation, as many posters have noted in other threads, will become increasingly common.

So in total, 2 examples from 2 clubs in the past decade, actually 3 (Coutinho).
Both James and Coutinho were a special ones, not wanted at Madrid or Barca but no-one prepared to buy them at their price, was smart of Bayern to take the punt on both as loanees and then ship him back if they aint all that.
The point is, big clubs very rarely loan in players.

Madrid don't play with AMs and they even have players like Asensio, Isco.
Barca - no place for AMs. Maybe the same reason why Coutinho struggled.
PSG - same. They play 433 and with Neymar, Mbappe, Icardi, Di Maria there isn't position for AM
Inter - plays 352 and they are signing Eriksen.
Juventus - Even Dybala isn't playing in his strongest position. Same like others they don't play with AM.
Liverpool - 433 team
City - they play AMs as CM and they have enough AMs.
Bayern - could have been the 1 option and they have Coutinho in their squad.
His position is almost non existent in today's game. Most team plays 4-3-3.

Juventus, Inter signed many players on loan.
Juventus and Inter are big clubs, they used loan deal very well.
All I would say if Spur had a bid accepted for £45m plus add ons on the summer if we were interested why didn’t we match the offer?

no one else is interested in the player, Sporting priced out spurs in the summer. He’s a good player, but not proven in a decent league, so we have a limit.
How did that work out ? That is a Scheduled flight, he will not be on that, if and when it will be on private jet.

That price in this market is not unreasonable. Joao Felix was picked up by Atletico for £113m from the same league. And Fernandes has better numbers in that league.
